||| CHEERILEE |||
#Name; Cheerilee
#Age Group ; Adult
#Gender ; Mare
#Species; Earth Pony
#Cutie Mark ; Cheerilee's cutie mark consists of three sunflowers upon her flank, each with a smile inside of it. As an exact quote from Cheerilee states: "I had decided to become a teacher, and the flowers symbolized my hope that I could help my future students bloom if I nurture them with knowledge. The smiles represented the cheer I hope to bring to my little ponies while they were learning."
#Occupation ; Schoolteacher at the Ponyville Schoolhouse, and a private tutor at times when it is required and the filly or colt's parents have enough bits to hire her.
#Powers and Abilities ; Apart from the previously stated ability at teaching, which is comprised of both Cheerilee's presence around colts/fillies and her own intelligence, Cheerilee is pretty much your standard Earth Pony. She can't fly like a Pegasus or use magic like an Unicorn. Don't mistake this mare as average, however, for she can be just as much of a tomboy as the next person if the situation calls for it. She is severely protective of her students, and will jump to violence if it is required of her. She isn't very physically strong, but that won't stop her from putting her life on the line for her students, or really any filly/colt in need. This extends to all of her friends, but the children take priority.
#Physique ; As I said before, Cheerilee isn't some big musclehead. She's a schoolteacher and a mare, so she's pretty feminine in that regard. However, she isn't as feminine as someone like Fluttershy or Rarity. She's a good in-between and it's safe to say that Cheerilee could hold her own in a fight.
#Mane and fur color and style ; Pale, light grayish rose + Light ceriseish gray (Copied from the MLP Wikipedia)
#Eye color ; Grayish harlequin (Copied from the MLP Wikipedia)
#Personality ;
First and utterly foremost, Cheerilee is a teacher. Her passion revolves around teaching and, because of her profession, she has a care and devotion toward fillies and colts that is unmatched. Just look at her cutie mark and you'll be able to tell right away. Cheerilee enjoys watching her students mature and take in the vast amount of information that she is willing to teach them. Metaphorically, Cheerilee is the bucket of water and the students are the seeds. But there's far more to this teaching pony than just her profession. Cheerilee is a very mature and kind individual, willing to help those in need and always willing to make a new friend for someone. If it isn't obvious enough by now, Cheerilee's name most definitely suits her "cheery" disposition. In a way, Cheerilee is a very good babysitter. When you have individuals like the Cutie Mark Crusaders, Silver Spoon & Diamond Tiara, etc. to look after and teach, you tend to learn the tricks of the trade pretty easily. Given the expertise and somewhat grace Cheerilee shows off, it's fair to say that her time in the Ponyville Schoolhouse isn't her first time teaching.
Being an adult however is not all sunshine and roses, and Cheerilee is a good example of that. Like any common teacher in the real world, Cheerilee is a very stressed individual. There's only so much energy she can put into her career, and the constant stress of her work life can leave her exasperated and with little time toward free time. Especially on the weekends, when school is closed. While Cheerilee can always find time for the essentials such as shopping, she is extremely far from being a socialite despite how happy she may seem. As evidenced by her reaction during Hearts & Hooves Day, Cheerilee laments her single life but uses the excuse of being able to teach her class as a reason why she doesn't want or need a special somepony. In reality, however, Cheerilee yearns for the same kind of companionship that the old friends she still stays in contact with have. Nobody in Ponyville that Cheerilee has come across has been able to spark her interest, though it's implied that her and Big Mac have a strong friendship with one another. The always smiling Cheerilee very obviously has a range of emotions that go from being peppy happy to severely depressed, but refuses to allow any of these to show when around her students, or the foals of Equestria.
A very protective and defensive person, a new side to Cheerilee can be seen that isn't shown in canon (but hinted toward, though again not very often) whenever the lives of her students, other foals, or her friends (to a lesser extent due to the earlier stated 'children come first' point) are endangered. Cheerilee will put her body on the line if it means defending them, which shows a violence in Cheerilee befitting a point of her life during her early years. This angrier side can be seen whenever there is fighting, literally, going on between her students. Being a teacher doesn't always mean being kind, and Cheerilee can be just as stern as the next pony. This isn't out of pure hatred or anger, however, and is simply utilized when Cheerilee has no other alternative in settling a student dispute. She is quick to deliver the punishments, namely detention or staying late to do something related to the school such as clap erasers, and isn't above giving a very serious glare toward one of her students to diffuse their anger or get them to own up to their mistake.
#History ;
Cheerilee wasn't born in Ponyville, as one might suspect! She was born in another part of Equestria, to a mother and father who loved her very much. Her time as a young one was average, up until she started going to school as a filly. She was very ]disinterested in learning (Credit goes to fadri on deviantART for the image!), wanting to focus more on her mane and colts and the other things that most young fillies think of. Wouldn't have expected a teacher like Cheerilee to have that kind of humble beginning, would you? For the most part, Cheerilee's life was average. She disliked school mainly due to the way a lot of the teachers in her small town were stricter to their students and, eventually, Cheerilee would find herself maturing and growing older. During what could be considered her young teens (Credit goes to goldginger101 on deviantART for the image!), Cheerilee began to fall in with a bad crowd. She started acting out, had her mane a lot messier than it naturally was, and even acted rebellious toward her parents.
Eventually, in her equivalent of middle school, Cheerilee would meet an Earth Pony teacher who went against everything that she had thought teachers stood for. This teacher was kind and had a gentle radiance about her that was enough to pull Cheerilee out from her phase. For the remainder of her younger teens, Cheerilee would devote herself to her academic pursuits and eventually took up a job as a babysitter. When she began to apply what she had learned in school to the fillies and colts that she babysat this, coupled with the influence of the teacher whom Cheerilee might as well have owed her life to, she understood the happiness that could come from watching the younger generation mature and grow. Eventually Cheerilee's class was asked to write a report on what your favorite thing was, and why. Cheerilee's, no doubt, was on teaching. The passion in the report was accented by the fact that, when Cheerilee finished to a class of applause, her cutie mark appeared on her flank. Thus began a long and stressful journey to become a teacher herself.
In Cheerilee's later teens, she changed the style of her mane once again and, while still keeping strong to her values as a future teacher, started to become a lot more sociable and something of a party animal. This persisted throughout Cheerilee's high school years, and only worsened when she went into her equivalent of college backed up by her parents every step of the way. She was nervous, no doubt, of joining such a prestigious school but her marks in her own previous grades had been good enough and by jolly she wasn't going to rest until she could own up to her report in high school. Eventually the time for partying would start to die down and the start to cracking the books would come in. Tragedy would strike Cheerilee very hard during her tenure in College, for her mother passed away due to old age and Cheerilee had no choice but to put her learning on hold as she sorted things out with her family. An argument occurred between Cheerilee and her father at the time, with Cheerilee urging her wishes to become a teacher and her father reminding her that she had to help take care of him.
While things remained shaky between Cheerilee and her father, she continued to swear to herself that she owed it to the one who had put her on this path in the first place to continue onward in hopes of realizing her dream. After a large amount of time, effort, blood, sweat, tears, and a quick change in fashion sense, Cheerilee would finish her time in College (Credit goes to wolframclaws on deviantART for the image!) and be awarded with the proper credentials. Time was spent in different parts of Equestria, Cheerilee taking up jobs as both a teacher and a private tutor from here to there. But she wouldn't realize her full potential until she landed herself in Ponyville. This was Cheerilee's teaching echelon, and for the remainder of her years up until the latest point she would spend educating the young lives of the fillies and colts who resided within. Deciding to settle down in Ponyville, the bridges were finally mended between Cheerilee and her father as he decided that he should apologize, having been so grief stricken by his wife's passing that he didn't even realize he was taking it out on his daughter.
After buying a home in Ponyville and settling in properly began the events of the show. We can see Cheerilee present for the events in Boast Busters, Look Before You Sleep, Winter Wrap Up, Green Isn't Your Color, and The Cutie Mark Chronicles, and in the episode Call of the Cutie we get to see one of Cheerilee's bigger events. This episode has her explaining the fundamentals of cutie marks as well as how she gained her own, and is one of the best times we get to see Cheerilee's teaching at work. In The Show Stoppers, Cheerilee is seen hosting the school's talent show (another job she has as a teacher of course!), with Spike assisting her in handing out the awards. In The Return of Harmony Pt. 1, we get to see Cheerilee explaining just who Discord was and giving them a tour of the Canterlot statue gardens. She explains what each statue is and the symbolism behind them, explaining Discord only when he is pointed out. Essentially, this is just a field trip. The episodes Lesson Zero and Luna Eclisped feature her in off screen roles, having had one of her blackboards returned to her and having given out candy on Night Mare Night.
Another on screen role presents itself during Cutie Pox, completely fascinated by Apple Bloom having a cutie mark and having found her talent. Despite being a teacher herself, she is just as fooled into thinking Apple Bloom has a second hidden talent when a second cutie mark appears, unaware that it was a spell. In Secret of My Excess, she ends up bumping into Spike and giving him a feathered hat, unaware that it would add to/cause a chain of events that would become disastrous. In Family Appreciation Day, Cheerilee does various teacher things so there's no real reason to expand on it since it doesn't help much. Now on to the main event, an episode that is very Cheerilee-centric and might even be considered a Cheerilee episode: Hearts & Hooves Day. It is revealed in this episode, to her brief lament, that Cheerilee does not have a significant other to call her own. The episode then consists of the Cutie Mark Crusaders attempting to find her a suitor, eventually ending up on Big Mac. CMC hijinks ensue and, eventually, we get to see something of a sly/teasing side from Cheerilee when she attempts to fool the CMC into thinking that the love potion on herself and Big Mac still hadn't worn off.
A Friend In Deed features Cheerilee very briefly as Pinkie Pie wishes her a happy birthday and in Ponyville Confidential she assigns Diamond Tiara to the school newspaper unaware of the kind of ship she would end up running. At the end of the episode, Cheerilee appoints Featherweight as the new editor-in-chief of the paper and kicks Diamond Tiara off due to her blackmailing actions, as well as turning the newspaper into a gossip tabloid.The Roleplayer's Corner

Another long day in the world of Cheerilee. The papers that were spread out upon her desk were littered with red letters, some As, some Cs, but mostly Ds. A sigh slipped out from the woman's lips as she placed her hooves against her eyes, trying to remember where she went wrong. That was the common curse of the teacher: Always blame yourself, never the students. Did she not give the young ones enough time to study, or was she too lenient on them? These were the kinds of questions she asked herself every day. The classroom was empty as the sun began to sink, so now was the best time for the mare to go home. Putting on the wildest smile she can, Cheerilee spoke aloud so as to confirm her positive mindset. "C'mon, Cheerilee, there's always tomorrow!" The papers were placed very neatly inside the desk and the things that she required to bring home were put into her school bag before it was slung over her shoulder, and she headed out of the Ponyville Schoolhouse.
On her way home, while contemplating what she was going to have for dinner that night, the inattentive pony bumped right into someone. "Ooph--!! ...Oh! Excuse me, I'm sorry... I wasn't watching where I was going." Quick to blame herself, Cheerilee started looking the other pony over to see if they had been hurt. The pony appeared to be a pretty attractive stallion, broad in the shoulders, whose kind smile reminded Cheerilee all too well of her own. "No, excuse me Miss...?" Eyes went slightly wide before the now nervous mare chimed up in response. "C-Cheerilee! Ms. Cheerilee." The nature of her name's title was purposely stressed, the two staring around in awkward silence before the teacher decided to try and make a first move. After all, she couldn't let this kind of opportunity pass her up. It looked like those lonely nights would be spent that way no longer!
Working up as much confidence as she could, Cheerilee put on the sweetest smile, before... "Excuse me, but... I haven't seen you in Ponyville before. I've lived here for a while, so if you don't mind I'd love to show you around." C'mon... c'mon... It was the perfect bait and there was no possible way that he could pass this up... right...? Unfortunately for Cheerilee, there were two things that popped her tires. First off was the stallion's perceptiveness. He knew that Cheerilee probably wanted to use it as an excuse to go on a date. So, he was going to respond properly. ...Oh... and the second part: "Sorry... but I'm only into stallions." That sound was the sound of glass shattering, Cheerilee just barely shifting what would have otherwise been an utterly shocked expression into a kind smile. "Well, if you still need help being shown around I don't mind." "That would be wonderful. Thank you." After the two had properly parted ways Cheerilee was left to slightly wobble home, unsure if the feelings of embarrassment or shock were meant to prevail here. When she got to her door she took a deep breath and nodded, whispering to herself.
"...Definitely shocked embarrassment."
