Behind her sunglasses, Synth’s eyes did a shift of focus as she spotted Topaz stumble after what she had said. The Crystal Pony stumbled, and her brightness dulled, taking on a decade-in-an-attic’s worth of dim that a forgotten jewel might. Synth hesitated on what to say, what suggested the appropriate level of concern. Before she could settle on something ideal, she reflexively gave an acknowledging nod. The gesture was too remote. After a moment of pause, she looked back ahead, eyes pointed down as she walked in a moment of embarrassment. And then Topaz began to sing something soft and familiar, though Synth could not place where she had heard it, perhaps at some point as a filly. There was a quaintness in the words that put a dull pressure on her thoughts as she felt the beginnings of so many feelings and opinions, but quickly enough, she decided that the little song in Topaz’ voice felt natural here, like something the birds would consider tweeting if they could tweet in Equestrian. And then Bon Bon joined, not quite as soft or quite in-tune, and again, Synth felt her mixed feelings come up about the song. It was simple and called to distinct images that anypony could imagine in respect to their senses, yet the composition was whimsical, more interested in a giggling caress of its objects than an intimate hold. Synth Pop remembered then where she had heard the song and kept quiet. However, she felt lightened by Bon Bon’s addition … there was now a full sense of a group of normal ponies out on a walk. She thought to herself that even if she could not lend to that spirit, at least she could observe it. She watched as a gentle incline started in the path and she looked ahead as they started to rise. Ahead, she could see the forest proper as the daylight hues cooled further, and took firmer steps. When they were camped under the moon, the night would provide all the music she could ask for, all the music she hoped for. |
