"I'll say you're not!" Fleet replied, with a sharp tone in her voice, but she let up her neck-crushing grip. A bit. Enough for him to breathe. After all, she hadn't gone through that nightmare just to lose him now, at the end! A couple of deep breaths restored her composure. But she lay as heavily as she could on her teammate, Pliable but heavy, like liquid lead- without the heat- to keep him pinned down.
"For Celesta's sweet sake, Soarin," She added, raising a wing to try and flag down one of the staring medical personnel, "It's great that you feel ready to be up and about, but you could wait until they've got the drip removed. Seriously, you do not want to rip that out. Here..." The mare's voice went from scolding to soothing, and she used a hind foot to nudge the IV stand a little closer, so it wouldn't pull. "Do you know where you are? Do you remember what happened? How do you feel?"
Soarin' winced as Fleet began to admonish him for his recklessness. Feelings and sensations were beginning to return to him, so Fleetfoot's lecture felt sharper and shriller than she might've intended. Even if he did realize she was correct.
It took a few moments for the Wonderbolt to process his wingmate's questions and formulate a response to them.
"Well, uh...I'm underneath Fleetfoot in some kind of hospital," He muttered. "So, I guess it's a the day after a party? And, I feel like...well, total crap. So, I think that means it's definitely the day after a party."
The Wonderbolt rotated as much as his bedsore body could manage to get a better look at Fleetfoot. He had a worried look in his eyes.
"Fleetfoot...it's not the day after a party, is it?"
The look on his face illustrated that he pretty much knew the answer already.
"No, Soarin'," Fleet said gently, shifting her position in such a way that Soarin' could hardly feel the weight of her at all, now. "It's not the day after an after-party." The Wonderbolt mare sighed, but it was an exhalation of the reflective sort, rather than a sigh of exasperation. Fleet was sure Soarin' would be briefed more properly and correctly by doctors or Princesses or somepony, but until they got here to do it, she'd have to explain something. She didn't like seeing him look so anxious.
"There's some kind of sleeping illness going around, and somehow, you caught it." Fleet remarked, with a reassuring smile. "But since you're up and about, it looks like you're out of danger. I know you feel like crap, but that's more because you've been asleep for some days without eating or drinking anything. A slice of pie, a cup of coffee, and you'll be overworking yourself like always in a couple days." Fleet laughed gently and got to her feet finally, offering Soarin' a hoof to help him up.
"But first, better let this nurse remove your IV, hey?"
Soarin' seemed more than a little panicked and upset as Fleetfoot revealed what had happened. The distress on his face was clear. Sleeping sickness? He'd heard of sleeping to get over being sick...but not BECAUSE you were sick. The Wonderbolt was still lying there, even as Fleet offered a helping hoof up and the nurse came and unplugged him from his IV.
"Fleetfoot," Soarin' said after a moment, turning to face his team mate. "You gotta tell me: How long have I been out?"
The look of desperation on the pegasus' face conveyed how badly he needed to know.
