Wave Chill is a pretty laid back individual, not something you would expect from a member of the Wonderbolts. His mark comes from his "Unharshable Mellow", a virtually unbreakable calm that even persist within the Storm of Wonderawesome. As the newest member of the elite team, he feels he still has a way to go before he is on the level of the more experienced Bolts. All of his skills come naturally to him, so he isn't as focused on training as Commander Spitfire. This means he often can be found taking naps or leisurely strolls through the base or down the beach. He has also been known to ride "The Grand Stream" or Jet Stream, around the world.
He speaks a Lingo that is known more on the beach than in Cloudsdale. Since he sure both liquid and gas waves, he has adapted a few of the words to fit flying as well. One thing most do not notice until it is pointed out to them is the fact that Wave Chill does not like calling ponies by their names. He instead calls them Honey, Bunny, Bro, or Brah, depending on if they are a flier or not. If he needs to identify a particular pony he will give a small description or part of their name with the grouping. For instance Spitfire would be Commanding Honey, Twilight would be Twinkle Bunny, and Fluttershy could be Shy Bunny.
Thus far nothing has been found that has caused him to get angry or depressed. He has been kicked in the jaw on purpose and just gave that pony a smile and pointers on a more definative buck.
#History ;
Wave Chill is not originally from Cloudsdale, where he now considers his home. He is actually from Seaddle, a busy town on the western coast of Equestria. He grew up watching the Seahawks ride the surf and thrill audiences. At a young age, he started to learn how to swim and tried numerous times to ride the boards the earth Ponies were using. By the time he was able to fly reliably, he was also able to ride the waves, but not at the same level as the Seahawks were. He really hadn't though much about flying.
That is until his parents took him to Cloudsdale for a Wonderbolt Performance. The team at the time was simply hitchin' and the formations and the acrobatics. It was enough to make anypony want to fly. So he spent days on end with his friends at the beach trying to figure out what type of performance he could do to just Wow the Wonderbolts. Everything he tried didn't even impress his friends. It wasn't until he went cliff diving with a couple of the grifflets he spent time with that he figured it out. His wings were very sensitive to the air currents as he went down, even when they were folded in.
He did a few draw up plans and decided to take the diving to the next level. Grabbing a cloud, he flew up as high as his wings would take him. At this point in his life, that was roughly 1000 feet above sea level. He stayed on the cloud for an hour to rest and prepare himself. Once the daylight was breaking into the afternoon, he simply stepped off the cloud and went head first for the ground. He mimicked the posture the grifflets took when diving for fish. He wasn't even 1/4 of the way down before he started to feel the currents within the air. Lifting him, pushing him carrying him for a bit, or just pockets of dead air. It was like he was going with the ocean. He closed his eyes, grinned, and without flapping his wings once during the dive, only giving them a parachute like flare to slow himself down during the last 50 feet before he just plunged into the ocean below. What was so great for him was that with the different updrafts, down drafts, and air variances, it took him nearly 15 seconds to go from point a to point b where that plunge would normally only take 8. He did strain a muscle in his neck since he didn't have the hard beak his friends had, but he loved the rush.
Everyday after that, he just pushed his cloud higher and dived. Eventually, he attempted the One Mile Dive. Something that only adults seem to even attempt. At this height, it was not a water landing anymore but a drop of a pure mile with 100 feet to grab wings and land gently on the ground. The fall would take 4 minutes 50 seconds depending on the air and currents. Even though he didn't advertise it, the locals took notice and called the Wonderbolts when he was approaching that height. When he dived, those watching saw him get some curls, shoots an updraft, sail down down burst, and again without using his wings, extend the dive to nearly 6 minutes. After he landed, the Mayor of the town brought him to the Wonderbolts who showed up, hoping that their small town kid would earn a praise word or two. However the Bolt that spoke said that it was nothing impressive and just flew off.
The Mayor and his parents were a bit upset because they were proud of him, but when they went to comfort Wave Chill, he just gave them his usual grin and stated. "I wasn't doing anything different to impress them, so why would they be impressed. When I think I'm ready to be a bolt, I'll go apply myself." He was known to be pretty relaxed but this was something different. As he walked back to his friends, who were stoked themselves, one of them pointed out the Wave and Lightning symbol now on his flank. To which we end the scene with his catch phrase Hitchin'
Years later, Wave Chill flew to Cloudsdale and turned in his application to join the Wonderbolts. The Wonderbolt who took his application was the same Bolt that had told him his dive wasn't impressive. The two shared a smile to each other. It was a couple months later when Wave was accepted to join the Academy. He didn't place in the top of anything during drills. His time on the Dizzytron was a marked 16 seconds flat. He spent more time in the actual spin out than reorienting himself though.
Despite everything he went through as a Wing Pony and the tough way his Lead pony talked to him, nothing seemed to phase him. Where he did seem to impress the Current bolts were when it came to friendly races. He was constantly in the top three, even though individual lap times were usually towards the middle. He showed his mentor the slipstream method he used and how it made flying easier and allowed him to stay right behind the leader. He was also spotted studying during free time. Apparently, he was doing course work in his free time in Aerodynamic studies. Most of his fellow trainees didn't know he already had his Bachelors of Science in the field. Though a good chunk of what he knew came from his dives and feeling the air, rather than sitting in a laboratory with a wind tunnel. After a few years, Wave was given the nod to join the team.

The Wonderbolt Anniversary was here and gone. Many of the ponies that visited the academy had came to see the others. Soarin' got a lot of attention as did their Captain, Spitfire. The speedsters were more enamored with Fleetfoot. Wave Chill however was mostly left alone during the meet and greet. A few Griffins did come by to say hello, but it was no where near the crowds around the others. And you know what? He was okay with it. The others had put in their time and energy as Bolts longer than he had. It was only natural that they had a bigger following.
A few of the staff even came by to check on him. It was his first Anniversary party with the team and apparently it's not uncommon for the new guy to feel a bit of jealousy over the attention. But Wave Chill just shook it off like water on a duck's back. He approached everyone that came to him with his signature ever present laid back smile. And he found that with a smaller crowd he was able to give each of his fans a decent amount of individual attention that they might not get with the much larger crowds.
And so, everything was just Awesome
