Styrke stood at the helm of the caribou ship, shouting orders to his crewmates over the ambient noise of ocean waves crashing against the sides of the ship. Most of the Caribou were taking turns between rowing and performing other tasks, with the exception of a few Caribou who were required to have their full attention on another task, such as the wind tailor. The weather was partly cloudy and the sea a bit rough; it seemed rather dull for something as grand as the start of an expedition, but at least they weren't stuck in stormy weather so soon in their journey. Styrke took a moment to turn away from his crew towards the seemingly endless sea that laid before them. A long time of preparation and training for the crew had all gone into this moment. Styrke had spent both day and night studying and working to prepare himself for his role as captain. As the time of the Bear Paw Expedition's departure drew closer and closer, Styrke had become so involved in his work that he didn't even have the time to join in festivities with the other Caribou. They had earned their time partaking in festivities, but Styrke was far too busy as the expedition leader to spend even one night away from his duties, as far as he was concerned. He was however sure to say his goodbyes to his family and friends; expedition or otherwise, Styrke knew it would be unwise and uncouth to neglect those close to him. "Keep up the pace; we shift positions in half an hour," Styrke called out to the crew currently rowing as he walked past them, making sure the rowers were all keeping the same steady pace as they had practiced. Many of the Caribou were on an expedition for the first time like Styrke, so keeping a close eye on them was important. Thankfully Styrke could rely on the hoofful of caribou who were veterans to assist him, but as the captain he had to be just as able and willing to guide them, even if he was as much of a greenhorn as they were. Surely his father thought the same way on his first expedition... His father was a gifted bull, and one of the best expedition leaders in the history of Trottheim. Which made it all the more important for Styrke to prove that he was just as capable as his father was. (OOC: You can start doing anything that would make sense for your character at the time, and depending on how many join there could easily be more than one conversation going on.) |
