There are many ways to describe Time Turner: brilliant, friendly, enthusiastic, a little eccentric. Time Turner is quite enthusiastic about living a fun and interesting life. With that enthusiasm comes a love of adventure and exploration, travelling around Equestria to see the world and learn about things first hoof. Of course, to get the most out of the world he also has to learn about the past, and so he also loves reading about history and cultures. Pretty much anything he finds interesting tends to send him into a bit of child-like glee. This, of course, comes with all the downsides of child-like glee, such as rashness, impulsiveness, and the inability to shut up and stop asking questions about everything. He can also be a little difficult to keep on track at times as well when he really gets into something. On the bright side, it does usually mean he’s open to new experiences.
Because of his natural curiosity, Time Turner tends to be well educated on a wide variety of topics. Probably the topic he is best known for, however, is history and culture studies. Much of the knowledge he has gathered as part of that is his own travelling experience as well as more formalized education. As mentioned, Time Turner feels to understand the present requires understanding the past, and therefore he makes a lot of efforts to try and get this kind of information. Plus, history is really weird at times, and has some of the best stories you can find. This, of course, makes him one of the many avid fans of the Daring Do book series.
His natural curiosity also tends to make him rather extroverted and friendly. He loves trying to meet new ponies since everypony he meets could have that next interesting story to tell. Furthermore, just about any activity can be made better when done with somepony else. After all, either you’re experiencing the fun for the first time together, or if it’s something he’s done before he gets to witness them experiencing it for the first time. And if it’s something they’ve both done before, well, the point is having friends around naturally increases the enjoyment of any activity. Because of this, however, he does have a habit of trying to drag other ponies around with him to do stuff, a habit that can make him seem rather clingy and needy. Which, to be honest, isn’t too far off of a description: Time Turner does generally have a fear of being alone.
In terms of morality, Time Turner is a pretty steadfast and stubborn guy. He generally believes in the good of ponies and wants to try and help other ponies. He’s also pretty open about, well, everything, and generally expects other ponies to be honest and truthful as well. Because of this, however, he can appear to be kind of blunt, and his steadfastness can come out as appearing to not recognize the gray that occurs in situations.
#History ;
Time Turner was born and raised in the small town of Ponyville. His parents worked in the local bureaucracy at the Mayor’s office. While the town was small, it was close to the Everfree Forest, and it had a good history of being one of the border towns of Equestria in the early days. Still, for a rambunctious little tyke like him, it wasn’t quite enough. Fortunately, Canterlot was a train ride away, and his parents took advantage of it to help him crave that exploration urge. Since they had a desire for him to be well educated, museums and libraries were common family trips. Despite the opinion of many foals, he absolutely adored them. History museums in particular fascinated him. He was drawn to the ideas of all these faraway lands and their cultures. Unfortunately, while Canterlot visits were doable, they weren’t exactly up for some of the more adventurous destinations.
Still, even in Ponyville great adventures could be had. One day his parents were sent to look into this old house downtown. It was supposed to be torn down for development purposes, but the historic society intervened to give it a chance to be investigated. His parents, having some expertise in local history, were brought in to see if there was anything of importance. Since it was so close they let Time Turner get the day off from school and go with them. Unfortunately for the home, however, other than looking old nothing about the house seemed particularly special: there didn’t seem to be any records of the home in any books or letters that indicated anything particularly important.
While that was going on, Time Turner was busy exploring the house on his own. Still a foal, he was easily able to sneak into some of the smaller nooks and crannies, where he discovered what looked like a slightly bent piece of wood behind a dining cabinet in the dining room. When he adjusted it to try and put it back into place, the wall began to slide away, revealing a small cubby hole with what looked to be a small box. Calling out to his parents, they opened the box to find a whole bunch of letters and papers inside. They revealed that the former owner of the home, who had recently died, was the secret lover of Totally Banana’s, one of the most notorious gangsters of Manehattan. Time Turner, of course, was proud to have found such a hidden secret, even if it was a little risque, and in the process he gained his cutie mark. The hourglass symbolized his talent for digging out the past and secrets from the sands of time.
Unfortunately being the home of a secret lover of a gangster wasn’t enough for the city to deem the location a historical landmark and so it was torn down anyway. Still, the event helped him gain a cutie mark. From there he made a hobby of exploring the town and digging into any rumors or secrets he could find in search of more secret history. It wasn’t a surprise, then, that by the time he entered college himself for history that he had a pretty good background in adventure and solving mysteries. That urge for adventure, however, meant he never felt all that comfortable in the academic environment, and while he did well, he wasn’t exactly rushing to move on to a graduate program like his parents thought he would.
Instead, he finished up his bachelor’s degree and then moved back to Ponyville, taking up a job as the town’s historian while his parents retired to the coast. As town historian he probably knows just as much about the town as Granny Smith or Pinkie Pie. Fortunately, the town is small enough that he has a lot of free time, and he can always make up an excuse to head out of town on trips if he needed to. All he had to do was make a connection between a Ponyville resident and a place he wanted to go and he could investigate. So he was quite glad, then, when Twilight Sparkle moved to town: the adventures of her friends gave him plenty of excuses to go out travelling on “official business” to try and document their roles in things.

He had to join in with her laughter regarding the lack of realization about time with his own small laugh. Considering his special talent was all about keeping track of and having a good sense of time, slipping up like this was a pretty big deal. At least this time it was in a good way; having so much fun with another pony that you may or may not have feelings for was something worth forgetting about time. Other important obligations notwithstanding of course.
Just, over all this day had turned out a lot better than he had expected. Not like he had expected it to go bad or anything, but he hadn’t originally planned on getting to the point of having to seriously consider what his feels were about Applejack. He had honestly thought that at best he’d probably just meet a new friend, or at least someone that maybe one or two generally nice dates about. But here he was seriously thinking about this going on a more long term prospect. Although there was another side of him that was saying all of this was sort of just post-date exaggeration and that once he had time to process it all and not have AJ right there to constantly keep up the feelings he might cool down a bit…
Bah, whatever, for right now he was enjoying that sense of butterflies in the stomach and the smile on his face at having gotten a confirmation about a second date. Even if in the long run this initial tension between them calmed down and they just turned out to be good friends, that didn’t mean he couldn’t enjoy the present.
”Sounds like a fantastic plan to me,” he replied, glad to see she was already thinking that a third date was down the line.
”And while my sense of timing may have been thrown off enough to miss the horseshoes, I think it’s still working just right enough for me to sneak in one last thing,” he added, giving a slight grin before inching a bit closer. Again, he was about to be a bit bolder than he was used to, but his current belief of “enjoy the moment” was telling him to just go ahead and do it.
So before he could chicken out, he seized the moment and planted a quick kiss on AJ’s cheek. Yeah, still not exactly brave enough to go for the full deal, but hopefully it served to get his point across as he blushed furiously.
