Derpy waited to see if her speech had any kind of an impact on the little bat. While she couldn’t guarantee that she would be able to relate to it, Derpy had seen the bat’s look in the mirror way too many times before to at least not try. Whether it was some physical malady or whatever, Derpy was sure it didn’t justify her feeling like she did. And if it was fate that had brought them to her and Reed? Well, she was going to do whatever it took to make sure she was alright before anything else. So she was surprised when the bat jumped up a little to hug her around the neck.
Of course, Derpy was perfectly happy to oblige a return hug, glad to see that she was feeling better. Reed’s speech seemed to also help, and Derpy had to admit being told that one was always welcome somewhere was a dramatically uplifting feeling. Just being told that you belonged somewhere was one of the most important things a pony could have. The crying might have been a littttle much, but considering it was an emotional moment she could let it slide. Granted her hope had been it was Starberry who could have a good cry but, well, at least someone did.
So she simply sat back and let Starberry walk off to have a personal hug with Reed with a little “Thank you” thrown in. Glancing up at the clock, Derpy was still a little worried about getting home. It was much later than she had thought, and Time Turner and Dinky were probably going to get worried about her soon. But Starberry didn’t seem to exactly like it when she said she was going to leave. Hopefully after this little bit of uplifting of spirits she would understand.
”Now, if you’re feeling better Starberry, you should curl up on the bed and get some sleep. I’m sure you’ve had a really long day. I have to get home to my daughter Dinky so her babysitter can go home as well, but I can assure you that I will be back tomorrow, okay?”
