Star Breaker’s personality can be described as being a bit off the cuff with a touch of aloofness. She has a pretty good sarcastic streak, and doesn’t exactly hold back in speaking her mind unless there is a really good reason too. Because of this she can often butt heads with her superiors in the guard as she tends to have a bit of a disregard for rules. Much of this comes from her personal belief her employers are always first and foremost the citizens of Equestria, and if she has to bend the rules to help them a little, well, then it’s worth it. And with her stubborn streak, she rarely tends to admit that her decisions were wrong.
Her cutie mark is of the representative kind, representing her tendency to charge in on everything she does. When not on duty she generally as a pretty carefree attitude, enjoying having fun and not having much on the way of restraint….within the law of course. Because of this she’s generally up for experimentation and trying different things at least once. It also means she has a tendency to stick her nose into things whether its wanted too or not. Granted, many times she’ll gripe and grumble about it, but once she’s involved with something she tends to dislike letting go of it.
This tends to go double with anything involving foals. Since her start in the guard came with protecting her younger sister, she has a particular soft spot for anything involving younger foals. She tends to be particularly involved with cases that involve foals, and is even more lenient about breaking the rules with them. Whether its letting them off the hook a little bit more – youthful indulgence in her mind – to occasionally letting them snuggle on her back or play with her equipment, she tends to be rather indulgent with foals. After all, she wasn’t exactly a perfect foal herself, so she sees no reason to be too tough on them unless absolutely necessary.
Romance in particular she’s a bit of a take charge kind of gal, often being a bit of a flirt and tease. Part of it is her personality, but part of it is also her past. As a foal she was often made fun of for her bat pony appearance, making her rather self-conscious. Now that she’s grown and bursting with more confidence, she feels like making up for lost time. She looks good and she knows it, and she’s not afraid to let ponies she’s into know it. It’s also why she tends to be rather physical in her relationships, enjoying hugs and cuddling…among other things.
This independent streak means she’s a bit out of touch with bat culture. Her father, of course, teaches her stuff, but compared to other bats she’s a bit more freaked out with the more communal nature of the colonies. That doesn’t mean she dislikes them or anything, but she simply tends to be more comfortable with pony life. Except the bug eating, she’s perfectly fine with that. Fortunately, up in Cloudsdale she doesn’t really have to worry about it, but the occasional visit with her father’s family can get a little awkward as there is a tendency for her to be a bit out of step with them.
#History ;
Star Breaker’s life as a bat pony is a bit on the more unusual side. While most bat ponies are born and raised within one of the many colonies around Equestria, she was instead born to a pegasus mother Cloudy Skies and bat pony father Comet Tail in Cloudsdale. They had met after her mother’s weather team had accidentally sent a rainstorm that partially flooded her father’s colony’s caves. She had gone to personally apologize to the bat ponies, her father included. After dating and marriage he moved up to Cloudsdale, the two figuring it easier for him to adapt to Cloudsdale than her adapting to a colony.
Because of this, Star Breaker was practically the only bat pony in her youth: even her younger sister would eventually be a pegasus. Since bat ponies were usually isolated from Equestria, and especially the floating cloud city of Cloudsdale, Star Breaker constantly found herself the butt of jokes and rumors. At first she tried to ignore them and keep to herself, but as time went on that became harder and harder to do. So instead, she started to stand up for herself, and as she got older she was often becoming involved in fights and other trouble at school. Eventually she developed a bit of a reputation as a troublemaker, and she wasn’t exactly afraid to take advantage of her looks and the rumors to strike a little fear in others. Eventually other ponies learned to leave Star Breaker alone. Sure, they kept talking about her behind her back, but she could live with that.
For most of this time, however, Star Breaker remained a blank flank. She had never really found anything that she could call her “calling”. That was, however, until her younger sister started up school and soon became the new target of teasing. At first her sister tried to hide it, not wanting to bother Star Breaker about it considering her other issues. Eventually, however, it all came out, and to say that Star Breaker was pissed would be an understatement. Unknown to her sister, Star Breaker began to follow her stealthily, keeping a watchful and guarding eye over her. This proved quite fortunate when a group of bullies ganged up on her one day, prompting Star Breaker to come plowing in like a rocket to get between them and her sister. Taking advantage of her reputation and looks again to scare them off, Star Breaker continued to guard over her.
Eventually, however, Star Breaker found she liked the feeling she got when she protected her sister, and began to extend her protection to other younger foals who were getting picked on. In an odd twist of fate, her reputation soon began to split. For those she protected, she became a sort of guardian, secretly hiding and waiting for the right moment to burst onto the scene to mess things up for the bullies. The bullies, of course, simply recognized her as someone who could ram you halfway across Equestria if she felt like it. So it was no surprise to either side, then, that during her “patrols” she eventually received her cutie mark of what looked like a star breaking through an asteroid.
For her sister’s sake, and because of her new found feelings toward guardianship, Breaker began to clean herself up a bit. Sure, she kept some of her cocky attitude and her tendency to dye her mane, but she began being a bit better about the rules, grades, and other things. The ultimate shocking twist, however, was when she announced to her parents she was going to try out to be a Royal Guard. It turned out to be a bit of a struggle, her normal attitude clashing with more of the rigidness and order of the Guard. Still, her marks were generally good, and upon learning to try and hold tongue a bit more eventually passed boot camp and brought into the guard. In conjunction with her bat pony instincts and skills, she was given a position within the Night Guard.
Now she finds herself a private in the Equestria Royal Guard, split between her off-the-hoof attitude and the need for order and rigidness of the Guard. While doing a good job, her attitude means she probably won’t be getting promoted anytime soon. Still, she enjoys her job, and is dedicated to doing her best to protect the citizens of Cloudsdale and the rest of Equestria.

As the sun began to set and the time came close to the start of her shift, Star Breaker finished strapping on the last bits of her armor. She could feel her eyes sagging just a little bit. Even after all this time the night shifts were bit of work for her, having been more of a day pony despite her bat pony heritage. Once she got moving and on patrol, however, she knew things would pick up. It was just a little bit of pre-shift laziness catching up to her. Still, that didn’t stop her from smiling a bit as she breathed in the smell of coffee coming from the break room of the outpost. As much as she didn’t like the taste of coffee, she had to admit it had a warm, inviting smell to it.
With one last tug of a strap, and making sure to get a nice to go cup of that coffee with plenty of cream and sugar, she was off. Despite the summer heat, Cloudsdale night air was cool and crisp. That was at least one benefit to living on clouds filled with weather controlling ponies: always great weather. Fortunately, the armor helped to protect the cold just as well as against attacks, even if that was rarely a concern. As fancy as she looked, Star Breaker was aware her job was mostly helping random ponies that need help. Which was fine with her. Sure, she could hold her own in a fight, but she got into the guard to protect and help ponies.
Speaking of which, as she flew through the night sky, there was a rather unusual sight to catch her eye. Over by the hot air balloon port there was another bat pony, and from the looks of things she was quite nervous. Probably a first comer, maybe from one of the colonies? In any case, she seemed a little lost and uncomfortable with the crowds. Since the night had been rather quiet so far and didn’t seem like things were gonna pick up, it wouldn’t hurt to at least check up on her. Based on her experiences, if she was a colony bat, she was gonna need a little help getting around the town at first.
Divebombing in before stopping with a thrust of her wings, she gave a wave to the batpony to come on over.
”Excuse me ma’m, is everything going alright this evening?”
