The smell of fruit wafted through the afternoon air at the home of Berry Bunch. A look through the kitchen window would see a sight of peels, rinds, and unidentified fruity mush as a fruity-pink foal was rushing through the kitchen. She was happily pressing buttons on a blender, smashing up fruits, and generally causing a great mess. So, in other words, the mess of creativity! Or at least that was how Piña was going to justify all this to her sister when she got home. Whenever that was…meh, she’d probably have plenty of time to clean up.
The goal of all this mess? Why, her usual goal of creating the ultimate fruit drinks! For her, it was a great way to spend the allowance her parents sent her. Technically it was supposed to be for food cause ‘they didn’t trust Berry’ or whatever. But, well, fruit was food, right? They never said she couldn’t blow it all at once for smoothie making so that was what she was going to do.
Speaking of which, the newest blend was finished! Pouring out the sort of tannish-orange mixture into a glass, Piña gently tipped it into her mouth. Letting it sit for a second and swishing it around a bit to taste, she spit back in.
”Okay, peanut butter and tangerine…not a good idea. Darn, and peanut butter usually goes so well with fruit….”
Placing the glass on the “failure” side of the table, she started to go through the pile of fruits she has left to figure out the next combination to do…
Shylette was drifting along lazily on this summer afternoon when a sudden breeze, without a 'by your leave' or 'excuse me, Princess' swept her up and carried her right into the kitchen, courtesy of an open window! Really! Ponies had no right to leave windows open where anybreezie might be blown inside! The tiny faerie pony huffed and dusted herself off, before observing the veritable forest of smoothie glasses, mostly full.
Now that was something odd. She'd seen ponies do many strange things, but something like this was... beyond. She eyed the foal currently working the blender. Was she preparing food for winter, the way Breezies turned pollen into nectar and stored it? Shylette sniffed the air. It certainly smelled sweet and delicious, fruity, rather than floral-y. Shylette flitted her wings and floated to the top of a purplish drink, dipping a dainty hoof in and licking it. Blueberry! Definitely blueberry and... maple sap? Maple Syrup? Delicious!
She floated to another glass, an exciting reddish purple color, and tasted this as well. But her delighted expression quickly turned to one of utter disgust. Avocado and Plum?! BLECH! She jerked away from it and the glass wobbled before toppling over on its side, and before she knew it, the breezie found herself mired knee deep in the worst concoction she'd ever tasted! She tried to fly out of the spreading puddle, but it was as thick and sticky as it was disgusting!
Piña was in the middle of contemplating how to use avocado again when she heard the noise of a glass falling over. Jerking up and turning around, she spotted the avocado-plum monstrosity spilled out over the floor…and some bug or something struggling around in it.
”What is that?” Piña said as she gently got closer to it, making sure to be careful of any broken glass as she got low onto the ground.
It almost looked like a small pony, but it also kind of looked like a butterfly too. It looked rather pretty too, with a long, purple mane. Well, whatever it was, it was trapped in that mess. Hmmm, how to get it out…oh, idea!
Going over to a drawer, she pulled out one of the few clean spoons left at this point and returned to the thing. Surely, but gently, she tried to slide the spoon underneath it, breaking out some of the gunk and lifting it upwards to the table. Putting the spoon down on the table, she watched to see if it could get out now.
Uhoh! She’d attracted the foal’s attention! Shylette’s struggles became frantic as she desperately tried to pull free of the horrible mire that snared her. The child had seen her, and was now rummaging around in a drawer- looking for a swatter no doubt! This was surely the end! Shylette froze and squinched her large eyes shut as she felt something cool and metallic slide under her belly and lift. Wait, what?
The Breezie’s blue eyes blinked wide as she felt the sludge reluctantly surrendering her legs and then she was free, free and rising up to the table Her legs were still coated with muck, and there was no way she was licking that off, but she could move them, heavy as they were. she was set down upon those selfsame besmirched limbs and the spoon retreated. The foal, a filly, Shylette realized, came eye level with the table and her.
”You okay there butterfly-pony?”
Shylette studied the face of her rescuer and found little of the wondering admiration and adoration that she ought to have found. She lifted a hoof to give her hair a dramatic toss, to fluff out in all its purply-hued glory, but all she managed to do was to put that muck in her hair. She flared her wings, instead, in all their shimmery, if colorless, glory! There! That ought to impress the child enough. Perhaps she would then get the faerie a bowl of warm water to wash up in. It was her sludge she’d been stuck in. Truthfully, the little one ought be grateful for the wasting of it!
Butterfly pony was rescued, if still rather messy. That would be something to fix up soon enough. But first, to make sure the thing was okay! Fortunately, that did in fact seem to be the case. Not particularly bright though: got her mane all messy with the smoothie gunk. Could you give insects a bath? Cause it seemed she was really going to need one. She really didn’t seem to like being in gunk, based on the aggressive stance she was taking with the wings. It was like something out of a story about animals attacking, but with pretty insects instead of giant monster animals.
”You gotta little something in your mane there,” Piña said, pointing at the insects mane,”Fortunately, Piña Colada knows just what to do in these situations”
It was true after all. Berry could sometimes come home rather messy, and when that happened Piña usually set up a bath for her. Oh, and being a rather adventurous foal, she had her own share of being forced into baths. Using a tub seemed rather much, though. Maybe a bowl would work? Yeah, that would probably do.
”Just give me one second little butterfly pony. In the meantime, uh, just rest those pretty little wings of yours.”
Leaving the pony insect behind, she got up and headed to the bathroom to get some bubble soap. With that secured, she put a little in a big old mixing bowl and started to fill it with hot water.
”Do you know how to take a bath? Cause got you a nice warm, bubbly one right here,” Piña said as she pointed at the now slightly overflowing with bubbles bowl of hot water.
Well! That would just have to do. If one could not be admired and adored and worshipped for the beautiful, charming and mysterious creature one was, one should at least be respected and feared! She was a mighty butterfly warrior princess! Rawr! In any case, her actions were being taken to good effect... the child hurried to put together a bath for her in short order. In the meantime, Shylette made a point of scraping off as much much as she could, leaving a collection of tiny dollops on the table like so many... Well, at least it didn't smell like that. It didn't smell too bad at all, really. Shame about the taste.
”Do you know how to take a bath? Cause got you a nice warm, bubbly one right here,”
Did she know how to take a bath, indeed! She'd been taking baths since she was smaller than this filly! ...Well, younger anyway. She was tempted to give this filly a scornful look. Then again, if I do that, she might take the water away, thinking it unsatisfactory. Shylette poised herself gracefully on the rim of the bowl instead, and tested the heat of the water with a foot, before allowing herself to slide down the side and into the hot, soapy water, floating on her front. It wasn't fatal if her large, shimmery wings got wet... but they would get very heavy and try to stick together.
This felt rather nice, actually. Shylette finished rubbing the gunk off of her legs, mane, and tail, and just stretched out and floated for a while. She made a point of giving the child a pleased, forgiving smile. Didn't want to frighten her too much. Pina Colada... It was a strange name, completely incomprehensible. She didn't know what a Pina was, nor a Colada. It had a nice cadence to it though. Shylette pulled a bubble delicately off the surface of the water and played with it as she mulled this over, bouncing it ever so lightly off her feelers.

Pina watched as the butterfly pony thing slowly but gently got herself into the water. After watching a bit to make sure that everything was okay and that the bug didn’t, like, drown or anything, Pina got to work on some clean up. She knew if she didn’t do it that Berry Punch might possibly leave the place a mess for a couple days. And as fun as being lazy could be, this was a pretty big mess. So with that, she started to run more hot water in the sink, taking the glasses over as carefully as possible so she could begin to rinse and wash them.
”You doing alright over there?” she asked as she balanced a cup on her nose before gently slipping it into the sudsy pool of a sink.
Glancing over, she watched the insect playing with some of the bubbly foam. It seemed to be enjoying itself at least, whatever it was. There was a temptation on Pina’s part to try and catch the creature to take to….hmm, who could she take it too. Twilight? Yeah, that’d work! Twilight knew everything! But, well, Pina got a vague sense capturing this creature would bring bad luck. Something about the gentleness and gracefulness of the creature screamed “pure cinnamon roll”. And messing with pure cinnamon rolls was bad juju. At least that was what Berry Punch told her, but that might have been when she tried to swipe some cinnamon rolls from the Cake’s bakery.
