Queen Chrysalis, in the disguise of a midnight blue mare with a lilac mane, Walked through the streets of Manehattan. This was a city she had yet to visit, so before she had to meet up for her fitting, she was taking in the sights like any normal tourist. She knew she'd be getting a dress that was to be on the Princess of Loves dime, but somehow, she didn't feel like she was in too big a hurry to do so.
She also didn't know what her date looked like, she realized. All she knew was a name, and a meeting location at Herbegie hall... Wherever that was. No matter, she could ask directions after her fitting. She paused, entering the dress shop in question to get this fitting started.
She pondered on her motives however. She didn't even know why she was here. She knew that Hearts and Hooves was a big deal, and she wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Her subjects had told her about this being an easy chance for a meal, but Chrysalis won't be feeding on this date, probably. Direct feeding on a pony while she's laying low would be a sure fire way to mess up her perfectly planned hiding!

Let's see: she got a free dress, a free meal, a free trip to Manehattan, and a chance to meet some fine other pony? Why wouldn't Star Breaker take the deal, it was like it was tailor made for her? Sure, technically, the fancy restaurants of Manehattan weren't her "thing", but it wasn't like she was unknown to them. She could stand it for one night. That it would end up in one of the fanciest hotels in all Equestria with "liberal room service" sure didn't hurt things either. Shoot, it was almost really unfair: if she hit it off with her date, how would all the future one's compare?
Welp, that's just where her charming personality had to come in, right?
So with that, she was standing in the shop getting herself measured for her fittings when a midnight blue mare came inside. Was this her date, or simply another one of the couples who had won this date? Well, they weren't supposed to find out till Herbegie Hall...but didn't mean she couldn't give her a quick look over and see about a sneak preview.

The mare noted the bar pony in the shop and gave her an approving glance and smile. Whoever that bat was here for was one lucky customer. As she turned away she gave the Bat one last glance over a shoulder and moved over to one of the other measurement stands and started getting measured, herself.
However, below the disguise of the pony, the queen had to use all her willpower to keep from smiting her tailor for touching her.
~~~Later that night, in Herbegie Hall~~~
Penumbra stood by a large fountain, a black dress that hugged her flank flowed down almost to the ground where it billowed out. She waited quietly, levitating a small glass of an unidentified liquid that she sipped on gently as she awaited her date. At least, she hoped this was the right spot. "In front of the fountain facing the door", right?
Well, she at least seemed to have the mare's approval. That was always a nice little pickup, especially right before a big date like this. Not that she was vain or anything but...oh, screw it, yeah, she could get a little vain. Who wasn't at times though? It felt nice to be considered good looking, especially when you're a little...odd looking compared to most other ponies not of the bat persuasion.
Of course, before anything she had to get this dress taken care of and, well, she might as well take advantage of it....
---- At Herbeige Hall ----
Having already owned a nice black dress, Star Breaker had decided to go for something a little more colorful. It was still dark, but it was more of a dark violet that reminded her a little of the coloring of the Night Guard. It had of course the usual holes for wings, allowing her leathery pair to sit comfortably on the outside. Her tail, however, remained underneath it, the dress a little loose in the back. She kind of liked to show off her flank but, well, too tight back there and her tail felt a little too restrained. Besides, it was a more 'formal' dress so didn't want to hug too much.
Double checking the information, she glanced up at the spot that sounded like where her date was supposed to. With a small grin of recognition, she walked up to the mare that not too long ago had also been at the tailors.
"Well, I have to say this is a pleasant surprise. Have to say you look just as good in a dress as outside of one. My name's Star Breaker, by the way."
Chrysalis gave a small, playful roll of the eyes. "Puh-lease... this dress design was supposed to be loose in the hips. Long nights in the Library with fast food made sure to fix that fact." the joke was obvious since the dresses were custom tailored, but she still gave a small laugh to punctuate that she was joking.
"Penumbral Haze, my dear. But you can call me Penumbra. I'm a researcher at the University. With a currently... controversial project. But there is time to talk about that over dinner after the show. Do you happen to know what show we will be seeing?"
Star Breaker kept back her comment about enjoying a more 'filled out' dress. This was supposed to be a classy evening of sorts, so she could wait on the more obvious and direct flirtations till later. Of course 'later' probably meant relatively soon but, well, there introductions to get through first.
"Uhhh, honestly, no idea. I know it's supposed to be an opera or something so I kind of snoozed out after that," she said, laughing a bit as she rubbed the back of her neck,"This whole kind of evening is a little bit above my class, if you get what I mean."
"I suppose it's good that we'll be spending more time paying attention to one another than we will the show~" She said with a playful flutter of the eyes. She had no idea what this opera was going to be, but that didn't matter. This was a date, and ponies on dates needed to pay attention to one another, right?
She turned, looking toward the concert hall. [b"Though I believe we should take our seats soon. I believe we got a Balcony Seat, which is nice."[/b] She said looking back to Star at her comment of class. "Class means nothing without personality, dear. As long as you're fun to be around, money doesn't mean a thing." She said with a small smile.
So, they had already upgraded to eye fluttering. It seemed that the flirting game was starting in earnest. At least they looked good when she did that, and Star Breaker gave a slight, playful smile.
"Yeah, I saw we got balcony seats. Just you and me above everyone, right? I always like my dates to be in places with a little privacy," she said, taking her date's suggestion to get moving as an excuse to walk ahead her, her tail gently brushing up against her in the process.
The statement about personality being better than money got a slight nod of approval from Star.
"I totally agree with that. Doesn't stop some of the ponies from Canterlot getting a little snobby. But so far you seem to be pretty cool so that's a plus in my book."
Chrysalis watched as the mare took the lead. That was fine, the queen had absolutely no idea where she was going. And the thought never crossed her mind that this bat probably didn't either. Oh well... ADVENTURE!
She heard a bit of buzzing and chirping in the back of her mind about an easy meal. It was true, this bat was pretty open as far as the flirting went. An easy target... however, as Chrysalis continued following her, she silenced her subjects that were chittering. Chrysalis could feed later. She was genuinely curious about this holiday, and thought she may see things out to the fullest.
Star Breaker herself didn't exactly know where to go, buuuut when she saw a couple of other ponies going up some nearby stairs, she figured that was the place to go. And so she did, leading Penumbra up the stairs while glancing at her ticket to double check the place that was theirs.
"So Penny...er, you mind if I call you Penny for short?" Star replied, opening the door to their personal little balcony with a loveseat. Because of course that's what they got.
"Anyway, while we wait for things to get started, probably should start talking about one another. For example, I'm a member of Cloudsdale's Night Guard," she said as she snuggled onto the couch, scooting a little bit and patting the space for Penumbra to join her.
Chrysalis had to think for a few minutes about the nickname. The only nicknames she'd heard were Cheeselegs or Chrysaswiss.... even if those ponies didn't know that the one they were insulting was right next to them. Finally, she nodded. "I believe it is an acceptable name." She said, smiling softly at the Bat.
Then she asked to talk about themselves. Chrysalis loved talking about herself. She didn't really like talking about Penumbra all that much. Most people disliked Penumbra's line of work... however, she soldiered on to see how Breaker would react. "I'm a researcher at the University... specializing in Changeling Biology and culture." She said, taking a slow sip of her drink and keeping an eye on the Bat
"Awesome. Not that there is anything wrong with Penumbra, but 'Penny' just sounds better in casual conversation. Something about one-two syllable names seems to flow so much better," Star Breaker replied, shrugging a bit,"Which, by the way, is why I'm totally fine if you just call me 'Star' or 'Breaker'."
Having already snuggled up on the couch, Star simply made herself comfortable and laying down juuuust a bit so that if Penumbra was gonna sit she was going to have to snuggle into her just a little. No point being totally apart on a date, right?
"Changelings, huh? Guess somepony has to do it. Bet you've been really busy after that attack on Canterlot, huh?"
Post by Queen Chrysalis on Apr 7, 2016 20:09:17 GMT -6
The queen thought for a few moments. This mare didn't seem too surprised by the fact that Penumbra was a Changeling Researcher. "Actually, I had only heard rumors of Changelings before the Great Siege." She said, pondering for a moment. "It was actually a wider field, covering all rumored creatures. Be it Changelings, Windigos, or even going as far as to figure out what Arimaspi was... But, when the Changelings were suddenly real, tangible things that I could research... My focus shifted solely on them. I started researching, and writing, and got a book published about what I could figure out myself."
She sips her drink, partly because her mouth was dry, but mostly because she realized she was babbling. After catching her breath, and letting Star have a few moments to process, she spoke again. "I hope to, someday, find a Changeling and ask it questions, and see what else they can do." She said with a smile. She looked at Star again, once again judging the reaction. This was going well so far, so the Queen thought she'd test the waters. "I think their little fangs are so adorable."
"Welp, an invasion is a pretty good reason to focus on a particular species. Probably also got you some good funding from the government. I know we had to do some special training in the aftermath in case of another attack. Evacuations, basics on what Changeling can attack with, etc etc. Chances are probably got some of your book-as-filtered-through-command," Star Breaker talked as Penumbra sipped on her drink.
Star Breaker's ear twitched towards Penumbra when she quietly mentioned she thought that little fangs were adorable. With a bit of a sly grin, Star Breaker opened her mouth just a little so as to show off her own little fangs.
"Oh, is that so? And what do you think of Bat Ponies fangs, hmmm?"
Post by Queen Chrysalis on Apr 24, 2016 6:37:23 GMT -6
Good, things went better than expected for now. She smirked at Stars response to the 'Fangs are adorable' angle she dropped. That was pretty close to the reaction she was hoping for. "Also adorable." She said with a small nod. She looked out from their balcony, looking over the numerous ponies below. Then to the few on the stage.
"It's a scary thought, really..." Penumbra started, pausing for a moment. "You would know as much as I do. A Changeling is nearly impossible to pick out of a crowd, given the right disguise. So anyone here could be one." She said, shaking her head slowly. "And walking around town? That thought has to drive you mad... One of the civilians you walk past could be a changeling, and you'd never know."
Penumbra took another drink, closing her eyes for a moment. "I am fascinated by them, but they also scare the daylights out of me. What if one of my Colleagues was one? Could you imagine what that would do to the school? They'd be hit by a lot of questions and scrutiny." She opened her eyes again and looked to Star, gauging her reaction again. "You'd... protect me if one attacked, right?"
