It was raining outside and Smoky Gears had been working on a rather delicate piece of machinery. Noticing he was near the Castle of Twilight that he'd never visited Smoky Gears immediately erected a barrier above himself to keep the water off of him and the device. Given water could short out the device or worse, he wasn't about to risk it. The device probably wouldn't work anyway. It was only his first attempt anyway. But still if the device did work, he'd possess a device that could suction up items and store them. There was also a reverse function on said device and the bag that stored the items could be removed. Hopefully Princess Twilight wouldn't mind if he crashed at her castle temporarily. Buck it. The rain was getting annoying and holding his barrier was getting... difficult.
"Buck it. I'm staying here."
With that he went to the doors of Twilight's Castle and channeled magic to his horn... firing it in a beam that would cause her doors to open for him. Once the doors were open he rushed inside and before he dripped any he cast another spell that would dry himself off. Did this place have any food? He'd been living penny to post, selling inventions and buying just enough for food. Every other bit other than what he spent on parts was donated to Celestia's School by him under an anonymous identity as he didn't want any credits for it. Later he'd work on saving up the bits to buy himself an actual place he could live. It would probably have to have a basement he could work out of.
It was true his Dad had been one of the Royal Guards. But that was not his destiny. While it would have made his dad happy that was where his passion was not. His passion lied in machinery. Gears, Electronics, Circuitry and even Magic. Since he was out of the rain he levitated the machine over and summoned his trusty wrench beginning to dismantle the device in the library. Perhaps he could up the power of the device and make it able to allow him to survive in the Everfree. Either way since he was going to go back there he needed to become stronger than he was, and better equipped.
