||| SOARIN' |||
#Name; Soarin'
#Age Group ; Young Adult (Mid-Twenties)
#Gender ; Male
#Species; Pegasus Pony
#Cutie Mark ; Soarin's cutie mark isn't usually seen because he's usually wearing his Wonderbolt's uniform, which has a winged lightning bolt where his mark should be...but through some remarkable coincidence, his mark actually is a winged lightning bolt.
#Occupation ; Soarin' is a Wonderbolt, and is it's "second-in-command" (since Spitfire is Captain).
#Powers and Abilities ; Soarin' is a Wonderbolt, a group of some of the greatest fliers in Equestria. Soarin' is no exception, but while other pegasi flyers like Rainbow Dash might emphasize pure speed in their style and train to get faster and faster, Soarin's a bit more technically minded. While he can stay up to speed with the fastest of the Wonderbolts, his real strengths are skill and maneuverability. Soarin' can stop on a dime and make perfect 90 degree turns while flying, despite how much the laws of physics seem to object. He's also mastered many tricks and maneuvers, which really wows the audience during shows.
#Physique ; Trained and toned Athletic Build, emphasizing speed, maneuverability, and endurance. Average height for a colt of his age, being a few inches taller than most mares.
#Mane and fur color and style ; Fur is light cornflower blue, often mistaken for white in the wrong lighting. Mane is dark, almost navy blue, in a spiky, swept back style.
#Eye color ; Emerald Green
#Other appearance details (optional) ;One thing that's hard to notice unless you're very close up to Soarin' is that he has baggy eyes, which he's gotten from a mixture of training too hard and one too many nights without sleep. The guy's REALLY dedicated to his job. Very rarely seen in public without one of his Wonderbolts Uniforms. The one worn in performances and public appearances is a blue form-fitting bodysuit with yellow lightning bolt details and covers all but the eyes, ears and muzzle. Also comes with goggles. The one for formal events is a blue, short sleeved shirt with a black tie and yellow lightning bolt cuff links on the collar (Example) .
#A more thorough description (optional) ; N/A
#Personality ;
Soarin' in a nutshell: Amazing flier, Big heart, not-so-big brain, MASSIVE stomach. Like most of his fellow Wonderbolts, Soarin's true passion is flying, something that shows with each Wonderbolts performance. It's something he loves doing more than just about anything else in the world, and being part of the Wonderbolts is basically his dream job, and something he worked for to achieve almost his entire life. Not only does he get payed (and he's payed very well, thank you very much) for doing what he loves, but at the same time he can inspire other ponies to aim for the top and go out and chase their dreams. He wouldn't have any other job in Equestria....mostly because he'd be bad at just about any other job, because for all of Soarin's skill and good heart, he's not exactly the brightest pony ever. While "stupid" or "moronic" are a bit of an overstatement (not to mention mean ), Soarin's a bit slow on the uptake and isn't really knowledgeable on things that don't involve flying or baked goods. He's also somewhat naive, but that might just be his good nature clouding his judgement now and then. Fortunately, a lot of ponies find his empty-headedness charming, endearing, or at the very least entertaining. And when he does think, he usually presents something very out of the box or unconventional.
Soarin' is also somewhat infamous for his eating habits. He has a love of food, especially baked goods and pastries, with pie as his absolute favorite. What kind of pie? ANY kind of pie. Apple, Cherry, Blueberry, Pumpkin, Pecan, the list goes on and he loves all of them. Fortunately, all that sugar and all those calories give him a ton of energy for flying, so he doesn't really gain any excess weight, he sort of burns it all off. That being said, he's always hungry after a show, and Celestia help you if you own an All-You-Can-Eat Buffet in a town the Wonderbolts are performing near after a show. Because Soarin' will hold you to that promise of all you can eat, and there's a chance he could put you out of business before the night is through. But he always leaves a great tip. Also, if your restaurant isn't all you can eat; CONGRATULATIONS! You're about to become a very rich pony.
Soarin' also has another bad habit: he pushes himself a little too far sometimes, and is rather critical of himself. Many of the failures he makes he blames solely on himself and when one pony's amazed at him doing a Double Aileron Roll into a Loop-De-Loop, he's mad that he didn't make it a Triple into a Cobra Roll. He's almost constantly training to become a better flier, despite the fact that he's already one of the best fliers in Equestria. And a pony body can only take so much, meaning Soarin's suffered more than his fair share of injuries, and also has random bouts of either narcolepsy or insomnia (and on more than one occasion; Sleepwalking and sleepflying). He's been told to take it easy or to calm down frequently, but he hasn't quite gotten the message yet.
Soarin' may have a reputation of being a goofball, but when a situation calls for him to be serious, he'll get serious. And when he does, it shows he's a lot smarter than he lets on. He didn't get his position as Second in Command for nothing. He is a competent leader, able to inspire others to do their best. More than his flying ability, Soarin' prides himself on his ability to inspire ponies and give them the will to keep on going. Determination and dreams have gotten him this far and he figures it'll work out for somepony else just fine.
#History ;
Soarin' was born in Cloudsdale, the only child of two Pegasi parents. Soarin's mother was a letter courier, who met his Royal Guard member father during one of her many trips to Canterlot. Eventually the two fell in love and married. However, Soarin's father died in the line of duty when he was just a young colt, leaving his mother to take care of him. Fortunately, Soarin' was a very manageable child and wasn't that much of a handful. Though he never truly got to know his father very well personally, he was still able to learn a lot from him by reading the journal his father had left behind.
Like most other Pegasi who show to have promise as fliers, Soarin' went to the Junior Flight Academy to refine his skills. However, one day during the time Soarin' was enrolled in the academy, a massive storm came out of nowhere and hit the academy. The students were all urged to get to their dorms and wait out the storm, but when Soarin' got to his dorm, he noticed some of his classmates and friends weren't accounted for and must still be outside in the middle of the storm. Soarin' knew there was only one thing to do, so he threw caution to the wind (pun not intended) and charged out into the storm to go get his classmates to safety. In the tense minutes that followed, Soarin' drew upon everything he had learned at the school and upon all of his bravery and skill to escort himself and his classmates back to the safety of their dorm.
After the storm blew over, Soarin' was both praised for his act of heroism...and chastised for his lack of caution and foresight. Had it not been for what he had learned in school, and for his natural talent, he could have just as easily gotten himself killed. Did I say natural talent? Yes I did, because after the incident, Soarin' discovered he had gotten his Cutie Mark from it! Taking it as a sign, Soarin' continued diligently with his studies and training, doubling his effort to be the very best flier he could be, even after he graduated the Academy at the top of his class.
Soarin' soon found that his virtue and effort had been recognized by a certain group of pegasi, and was invited to join the Wonderbolts' Academy and train to join a group of some of the greatest fliers in all of Equestria. Soarin' met a lot of friends and learned a whole lot at the academy, but something just didn't feel right to him. He recalled what his father had learned from his time training to be a Royal Guard, specifically a lesson that taught the guard trainees that knowledge and experience would not come from just one place. It came from many places and it would not just come to you. YOU had to be the one to seek it out and learn and grow from it. So one day, Soarin' just dropped out of the Academy, to shock of everyone, who couldn't think of a single reason the star pupil up and quit. It just wasn't like him at all.
He didn't stop there. Shortly after dropping out, Soarin' left home to travel the world. For over a year, nobody saw head or tail or heard anything from Soarin' as he walked the earth, save for the occasional letter that made its way back to his mother. The young pegasus met ponies and other creatures of all walks of life during his travels and was able to pick up something from just about everyone. Flight techniques from the masterful fliers of old. Mediation and peace from a wise zebra shaman. Discipline from former members of the Royal Guard. Pie recipes from great bakers. Any wisdom and knowledge he could pick up from anyone he could meet. To Soarin', anything he learned would lead him down the path of success.
And then, just as suddenly as he left, one day the prodigal pony returned to the Academy in his trainee uniform and asked to rejoin the Academy, leaving everypony dumbfounded. After he explained himself and his reasons for leaving, Soarin' was allowed to re-join. With all his knowledge from his trip gathered, Soarin' could finally focus on honing his flying. Again, Soarin' graduated top of his class...albeit a little late.
It wasn't too long after that that Soarin' got his invitation to join the Wonderbolts. He (obviously) accepted. As part of the Wonderbolts, Soarin' found his love of flying only grew. Not only was it his job to do what came natural to him, he gained fame and some of the best friends he could ever ask for in his wing-mates. He worked hard to achieve his dream, and now he's all about living it and helping others live theirs'.The Roleplayer's Corner

#Sample RP ;
Soarin' was too busy fussing with his bags to notice Rose creeping up behind him. He finally found his keys and was about to stick them into the keyhole to unlock the door when he heard a shrill scream pierce the silence of the night right behind him. The Wonderbolt jumped, dropping his keys on the ground before turning around.
The source of the noise seemed to be a rather...oddly...dressed mare wielding a ladle as if it were a weapon. Soarin' was....confused.
"Uhhh...are you okay? What's with the ladle?" the pegasus asked, tilting his head at Rose, and standing his ground. He wasn't really sure she was much of a threat to him. At least not with a ladle.
It really didn't occur to Soarin' how suspicious he looked, what with the whole sneaking around Ponyville at night and trying to get into a house that wasn't his. Then again, his whole story made sense from his perspective. He had rented the house, and he had decided to arrive at night to not disturb anypony by just landing out of the blue in the middle of the day. Plus, arriving at night meant he could get right to bed, and work on that whole "rest and relaxation" stuff the other Wonderbolts had always been going on about to him.
