Hippogriff and Sphinx Brainstorm Thread

I've had an idea for a while to add Hippogriffs and Sphinxes as races for some time now, so, I made this thread. Basically the purpose to this thread is to determine firstly the site members' interest in the idea, and go off from there.

First off, we'll start with a poll: Do you want either of these races to be added? Furthermore, what would you want them to be if they were added? I had the idea of them being a result of cross breeding between a pony and a griffon, but that's only me. Discussion as to how the races would work, what their powers could be, and more can be determined once a general consensus about whether they should be added is known. A bit of research into the two creatures would be appreciated, as would an explanation for your decision if you choose to vote.

Don't really wanna go first and start off with negativity, but

Hippogriffs: No
Sphinxes: No

I think we have enough flying races
I think allowing crossbreeds takes away from a story aspect of an interspecies couple. Even if such things exist in the non-MLP mythos.

Hippogriffs: No
Reasons: Enough flying races, Crossbreeding isn't feasible in IRL or MLP-Verse. In real life, such diverse creatures could never create offspring. In the MLP-Verse, there would be a lot more alicorns than there are.


Sphinxes: No
Reasons:Human faces. So much no. ALL of my no. NO, NO, NO. Go do that on the Equestria Girls board. And if you gave them an animal face, they'd be...a LION XD

Oh, crap. I probably should've been more specific. Sphinxes would NOT be part human, they'd be part pony. This is what a Sphinx would look like, I don't think that'd change your vote, but I just wanted to be clear they wouldn't be human. >.>

And... I'm sorry if this comes off as harsh. But it's because I don't see the point. It seems like having a race simply to have it. There's just nothing distinct enough about them that someone couldn't just make a griffon or pegasus version of the character without really losing much. Also the above reasons—plenty of fliers, crossbreeding is iffy, et cetera.

Bring something more than just a mish-mashed appearance. If you have an idea about either of these species that makes me stop for a minute and go oh... cool, then you'd totally have my support. But... I don't really see that. ^^; I'm totally open to hearing it if I'm mistaken and you do, though.

Got to give a no to both of them for many of the same reasons stated above, except one. I'm cool with Hippogriffs being hybrids as long as they're accepted by society. I've played many a tabletop RPG sessions and the Half-Elf that's unloved by both their parent's races act gets old, quick.

My major reason for stamping my disapproval on this though stems from the fact that they are fliers. We have enough fliers on the board as is, and I think other types of races should be considered first if there becomes a demand for them. Currently we have Pegasi, Bats, Griffons, Caribou, Dragons, Changelings, and Alicorns.

As many have already stated, we already have too many flying species. I get the feeling that adding more of them will further reduce the number of 'regular' ponies. Earth Ponies and and especially Unicorns are to my opinion already underrepresented.

Also, I don't believe such races would match in the MLP universe. Yes Hasbro might add them in the future, but since then I think we should not.
