That nod was a lie. Soarin' had heard that groan and could see and hear the exhaustion in Fleetfoot. It was more than just exhaustion, too. This trip seemed to be taking the enthusiasm right out of Fleetfoot. A considerable task, as Soarin' figured she was about the only other Wonderbolt who loved being a Wonderbolt and flying as much as he did. It was a bit depressing, honestly, and Soarin' knew this exhaustion could be contagious. So, not only did she need the morale boost, he might need it, too.
"Well, uh, I've got an idea..." Soarin' said, a little unsure. "I'm not sure how well this will work, but I figure it's worth a shot. My dad would tell me that, during his adventuring days in the Royal Guard that when the stallions on a ship were going through a rough bit of weather, or the captain needed them to haul flank and get the boat going faster, the crew would all sing these little songs called, uh...shanties. And they raised the crew's spirits, got their rowing synchronized. Whistle while you work kinda thing, y'know? Dad taught me a few, so...how 'bout I try one out and see if it also works in the air?"
Soarin' looked back at Fleet with a sheepish smile. He was aware of how silly this idea seemed...but it was the only idea he had that he thought would help at this point. And he wasn't asking for permission...after all, he was leading this flight. The pegasus cleared his throat and in as best of a singing voice as the pony with no training could muster, started singing:
"What will we do with a drunken flyer?
What will we do with a drunken flyer?
What will we do with a drunken flyer, early in the mornin'~?
Weigh, hey and up she rises,
Weigh, hey and up she rises,
Weigh, hey and up she rises, early in the mornin'~!"
