This was getting rather worrisome now. This felt like they were breaking into a maximum security prison, but he knew the intention was good. They were saving prisoners from the Nightmare Forces...and Stardust was working to save Celestia from the nightmare itself. 'Be careful...' He murmured under his breath, following Sincerity upon her urging.
The pegasus kept as quiet as he could, following the two love-birds. He knew they were, keeping his wings firmly against his body. He began to worry about screwing things up for the others now. Sure, he had the lucid-dream advantage, but aside from that...these ponies were manifestations of Celestia's subconscious. If this were reality; he was nothing more than a civilian who jumped into the fray with a bunch of veterans. Behind his fake smile, he recognized that fact and began to feel he'd be a burden. But he couldn't allow himself to fail now, he could *not* falter here! He'd see this through until the end.
The three continued along the cliffs, until they came to an incline that led to ground level. Bravery glanced at the stallion and the mare. "Alright, we'll just need to wait until the shifts change before we start. Sincerity... Maybe somepony else should do it." Sincerity's eyes widened. "What?! Why?" "Well... You could get hurt. I'd much rather take the flak for if this goes sideways." Sincerity glared at him. "Wisdom and Hope deemed that I do it. I know you're worried about me, but I can take care of myself, Bravery. You don't have to protect me." Bravery looked away, but he still looked concerned. Sincerity just stared at the base, without another word on the subject.
Bravery's concern for Sincerity, and her immediate denial of the necessity for it....That alone gave him drive to speak, that phrase didn't sit right with him. He even looked at Bravery, seeing the concern in his eyes.
"That doesn't mean he shouldn't be at your side if he is worried about you." he spoke up, risking the chance to draw the ire of the two, but it was worth the risk. What good would saving Equestria do if it cost them everything? "Sincerity...Bravery cares about you...I think losing you would be the last thing he'd want...And I'll be honest...We may have only just met through...happenstance..." he chose his words carefully. Telling them this was a dream would throw the wrench in everything.
"My point is, I don't want to lose either of you any more than I want to lose Celestia." he began to get into a bit of a flow. "Even if everything else goes smoothly, what good would stopping the Nightmare Forces really be if we throw away our friends and loved ones to do it?" the rhetorical question came out.
This is a dream, but to these ponies, this is reality...Everypony...everything here is a part of Celestia...Her Bravery, Wisdom, Sincerity, Hope... he thought. Things began to click, and Stardust realized he wouldn't have enough time...He had to try it! Time will stand still! he thought in his head as loud as he could, the world around him turned grey, all actions frozen. Parts...pieces...pieces of a puzzle... he pondered before his eyes widened. Wait...A warzone, Celestia was 'lost'...the Nightmare Forces, this land being set ablaze...That's it! Time continues! The expression on his face, as if slapped with an epiphany, was as clear as day when color and action returned to the world. "I think I figured how to save Celestia." he said softly, just enough so that Sincerity and Bravery could hear.
Her nightmare...one of her greatest fears...Is this...turning against Equestria as a force of evil...Giving into her anger, sorrow... he reasoned in his head.
"I'm still doing it. I know you're concerned, Bravery, but, really... As long as we follow the plan, everything should be fine." "I know... I'm sorry, Sincerity." They both turned away from each other to face Stardust when he spoke up. Sincerity walked closer to him. "Really? Well you better explain fast, it's about time for us to start." Bravery pulled out his binoculars, and looked. "Yep, the fliers are about to turn in. Double time, Stardust."
Nodding as Sincerity told him to explain fast, he thought of how to dance around the fact this was a dream. He couldn't risk her subconscious changing things at the last minute, so he had to leave some details out. "By now, she is already fighting for the nightmare forces...What I have in mind will take too long to explain, but we need to draw her attention. Get her to come to us." he explained at least part of his plan before Bravery told him to step it up. Nodding, he waited, and right when the opportunity came, he joined Bravery while Sincerity began the diversion.
Following Bravery's lead and swiftly taking out the guards, not wasting even a single motion, the pegasus began to think about how to properly hide the guards they incapacitated. They needed the armor, but leaving the unconscious bodies would draw too much unwanted attention. He didn't want to have to let the two see it, but he was going to cheat a little.
Once they finished rounding up the unconscious guards, Stardust flared his wings out, scattering the shimmering dust from his wings and covering them with it. The guards soon faded from sight, their armor silently hitting the ground. The guards they took out were transported to a far off location, safe from harm. "There,ey won't bother us anytime soon." he stated, gathering the armor so that he could distribute it to Sincerity and Bravery.

Bravery and Sincerity got suited up in their armor. "Okay, now we need to get inside. We'll do the parts we were already ordered to do, then we can see what Stardust has in mind." Sincerity trotted ahead. Bravery looked at Stardust. "I hope this plan is a good one." Bravery followed Sincerity towards the base.
Stardust donned his armor, although his heart had a twinge of guilt as he did so. It wasn't that he took it from a Nightmare guard, but it was the fact it was Nightmare armor. He hoped the first armor he'd ever don was that of the Canterlot Royal Guard, being accepted into the guard. But that dream wasn't important right now. Following Sincerity and Bravery, Stardust made sure the coast was clear.
"Alright...if I remember the map correctly....wait...no.." he murmured, trying to remember where the prisoners were held according to the map. It changed every time he looked at it, and he sighed. "Alright, I'll carry out my orders, and I'll regroup with you as soon as I can." he nodded and after trotting a few steps down the hall, he focused his mind. Prisoners...Bring me to the prisoners! he focused with all his mental might, and what would be perceived as a slight shimmer followed by Stardust vanishing with a slight blur in the direction, Stardust had 'cheated' in the dream once more, this time bringing himself right around the corner the room where the prisoners were being held. He felt as if his head was throbbing, it was getting harder to cheat in the dream with each time. As if the world that Celestia created was getting more and more resistant, trying to fight his lucid loopholes. He had to cool down a bit, play by the rules again.
Walking around the corner, he checked to make sure if any of the guards were there. Whether things were easier or not would be up to the nightmare. Celestia...I promise I'll find you...I promise I'll get you through this... he thought as he tried to figure out anything. Although unintentional, the determination behind these thoughts was more powerful than that of when Stardust bent the rules of the dream world. Rather than searching with his mind, his heart was taking the initiative, he began glancing around, hoping to find Celestia now that he was somewhat alone.

As Stardust turned the corner, he was instantly met with four guards standing outside of the door. Each of them had red diamonds for eyes. But, when Stardust walked out, they remained still. If he chose to walk up to them and look at the diamonds, he'd see a silhouette of a pony in the reflection. The keys to the cell hung from one of their belts.
A prisoner peeked his head through the bars. "Oh, thank Faust, it's somepony new! Quick, grab the keys before they wake up!" "Someone new?" "A new guard?" "Maybe it's the rescue team!" "We're saved!"
The pegasus was met with four guards just outside the door. Well bullocks.. he thought before he composed himself to walk past them, at least to get to the prisoners. Met with one of the prisoners, he was instructed to grab the keys before they woke up. They're asleep? No...maybe inactive? I don't know.. he tried to make sense of it, but he shook his head and nodded. "Just a sec." he whispered to the group before he cautiously approached the guards once more. Just great...he had to get infront of all of them to get the keys, they were placed on the belt which was wide open.
What was I expecting? he wondered before he knelt down to carefully get the keys. They remained still so far, but he then couldn't help but notice the red diamonds they had for eyes. These again...what are they trying to tell me? he wondered, just managing to get the key ring off the belt. YATA! he thought before he noticed a silloeuht in the reflection. Instinctively, he turned around to try to face the reflected pony.
There was no pony to be seen, upon turning from the reflection. The silhouette seemed to only exist within the reflections. The prisoners did not seem as interested in it as he did. "Great, he's jumping at his own shadow." "Quiet down!" "Hurry with the keys!" "Bring them over before they wake up!" "Get a move on, already!"
The silhouette formed two piercing red eyes within the reflection. "Run, run, run, little insects! Play hero. Yes, save the prisoners. You'll never save your precious Celestia at this rate! Give yourselves up, and your punishments shall be swift." The prisoners quailed in fear as the voice echoed through the base. "She has found us out!" "All is lost!" "Maybe if we praise Solar Flare we shall be free from her terror!" "Hurry with those keys! We don't have any time to spare!"
The jeers from the prisoners as Stardust began to approach the cell with the key, followed by the mocking voice that was now addressed as ‘Solar Flare’, deep down it began to frustrate the pegasus. The seeds of doubt had been planted, even as Stardust went as fast as he could, he couldn’t seem to close the gap between him and the prisoners. Is this a part of the dream? he wondered, but he sighed and realized it. No...it’s just me...I’m scared to mess up... he thought...but he wouldn’t give up. Even in doubt, even with the odds stacking against him...He wouldn’t let this stop him. The fact such an obstacle was happening now of all times made him so...so... His irides turned red as something just as deep down as his doubt began to come to the surface. It was a strong emotion that would be short lived, but was enough to shatter the barrier formed by his doubt. Clenching his teeth, Stardust found himself struggling to hold it back. What he had been bottling up for years, putting on the shelf, holding back, it was going to come out all at once.
Rage. Anger, frustration. An emotion he wasn’t allowed to show...not allowed to have....he didn’t want it...didn’t want the trouble. No...no more. No! He swung a leg in the air as he yelled, catching his breath as everything was clear once more. His eyes faded back to blue and he smiled. “I’ll save the prisoners from thisand Celestia from this nightmare...” his resolve had returned, and in the blink of an eye, he began unlocking the cells with the keys.
“Hope isn’t lost!” he called to the prisoners, his own morale skyrocketing. But then he wondered...if they knew who the threat was....maybe they knew... “Who is Solar Flare?” he asked them. He had a feeling he already knew the answer, but still, he had a role to play. If he was right...the answer would come right to him.

Almost all of the prisoners immediately scattered from the cell. They weren't waiting for anyone to tell them twice to get out of there, or for Stardust to ask them a question. However, one older pony walked up to him. He had a long beard and a whimsical look in his eye. "You don't know Solar Flare? How'd you get this far, colt?" He laughed, as if at some private joke, before putting on a very serious face. "Mayhaps you don't belong here." He winked, before stepping out of the cell. "Solar Flare is a being of destruction and hatred. There is not an ounce of kindness in that creature. Her heart is the blackest they come."
"Rats... It appears I've caught a few RATS IN MY HOME!" A loud crash rang out from the other side of the compound.
The old timer huffed, looking around for the source of the voice. "It appears your friends have been found out. You too, by the sound of it earlier. I think she's keeping you for last. That might be your chance." He winked again.
As the prisoners fled, Stardust felt like he was being ignored...although given the circumstances, it made sense. However, something then occurred to him. Things were progressing too smoothly...That’s when it hit him. In every story, whether reading or writing, there is a golden rule that must be followed! If someone says or writes down a plan...it must fail...otherwise it’s a spoiler! His eyes widened. With how things were progressing so far, that could only mean that things would go south real fast!
Turning his attention to the older pony, he listened to the description of Solar Flare...a being of destruction, not an ounce of kindness. The whimsical bearded pony gave him a few hints, apparently knowing that he didn’t belong here, which caught him off guard. Either Celestia knew he was there now, or there was another force inside this dream that he didn’t know of. Either way, he smiled once he was given the advice. Then the loud crash echoed through the halls, along with Solar Flare’s voice. The plan is now falling apart...Stardust felt a mixture of worry and relief. One one hoof, things were backfiring on the others...but on the other hoof; he no longer had to follow the rules of the nightmare. A smile spread on his muzzle once the bearded pony mentioned Solar Flare was saving him for last. He could...no, he would turn this around!
“I'll be ready for her, that's a promise.” he assured the old timer, his wings shimmering a little more as his heart rose, his mind shuffling through all sorts of ideas. A confrontation with Solar Flare was inevitable, he knew that much. But there was no point standing around like an idiot. The prisoners had scattered, it would be impossible to track all of them in this circumstance. But there was one who did stick around. “Do you want me to help you get out?” he asked the old-timer, only to see he had vanished from plain sight.
"Oh right, a dream.." he reminded himself with a nod before he stretched, his wings flaring before he took off himself. In the dream world, he was much, much faster. Now, if I were Celestia in a nightmare...where would I be.. he thought back to the situation at hoof, then smirked. The same place as Solar Flare...She's either watching everything, or *is* Solar Flare. he reasoned, deciding to try to back up the others first. Sincerity and Bravery were the closest to where he was; if he was lucky, he'd be able to assist them....and he now had the creeping feeling he just jinxed his odds.
Sure enough, he could not find them at the original place. Just signs of a struggle, but no blood or ash. If she is as sadistic as the others let on, the rest will be held captive. he figured, and decided to go to the one spot left; where their leader was trying to go; the source-something or other.
On his way, the words that taunted him echoed in his mind...the futility of trying to be a hero. Maybe Solar Flare had a point:, maybe he was being a fool and he should simply start putting his eyes on the prize. What happened next would allow him to decide as he raised a forehoof, approaching the thick double doors. Solar Flare...I'm coming for you. One way or another, it's time to finish this!! he thought as he slammed his hoof against them, busting into the room he tracked Solar Flare down to.
"Celestia?! Bravery?! Sincerity?! Wisdom?! Hope?!" he called out, although in the back of his head, he had to keep in mind this would be for naught.
