The suite of rooms into which the Great and Powerful Trixie had been settled were splendid indeed. But at the moment, they were empty. That is, until the door leading in from the hallway slowly swung inward and a unicorn put her head around it.
A unicorn who was not The Great and powerful Trixie.
This pony crept quietly into the parlor, the first room of the suite, and stopped to admire. Royal blue cushions with gold fringe and tassels were strewn in comfortable piles before a white marble fireplace with gilded andirons and matching pokers. It seemed doubtful that these were real gold, and so the intruder moved to inspect a (mostly) empty bookcase near a writing desk. The books contained within were magic-instructive, but it was hard to tell if they were really rare or not. The unicorn did stop to consider a silver bowl, half-full of water, that stood upon the desk, contemplating it for a long time. Then, with a shake of the head, as if to say that such trivial thievery was unworthy of them, they moved on to the bedroom.
Another gorgeous room in blue and white and gold. The furniture was delicately carved wood painted white: two wardrobes, a majestic four-poster bed, a vanity and a stool to go with it. The unicorn gave a peek into one of the wardrobes whose door was slightly ajar, but there was nothing of particular value within- just a worn lavender cape with stars and moons and a matching wide-brimmed pointy cap. There was a mirror hung upon a wall, ornate and clearly valuable... the intruder stood looking into it a moment, probably considering how best to remove it from the castle without notice. it was in the mirrors reflection that the unicorn saw the gems. Just a few of them, resting in plain sight upon the vanity. Trotting over for a closer look, an aura of aquamarine magic encircled one and lifted it for inspection.
And then, strangely, set it back down. The intruder turned, as if aware that time was of the essence and headed with purpose for the private bathroom of the suite, determined, obviously upon working some devious mischief within.
