Twilight Sparkle walked around Golden Oaks Library moving a few things with her magic. It was the second time she had doubled checked the checklist (which is totally different from triple checking) to make sure things were in order. She was expecting a guest, and her place needed to look less like a library and more like a place more conducive to socializing. She also needed to place a few more pillows around. Rainbow Dash didn't have the greatest landing record when she came through a window.
Her friend Rainbow Dash was scheduled to come over. What the two of them would do, she didn't know. Obviously they could read books. She could always find a book to read, or re-read, but Rainbow.... not so much. So instead of having a pile of books ready she just wanted her place to look welcome, and have a few snacks set out. Carrots and celery sticks were good things to munch on, and she had also set out some chips. The baked kind with light salt. It was a healthier alternative to regular potato chips, and she wasn't about to go all health nut on Dash with something like rice cake wafers.
Rainbow Dash had been flying hard for sometime now, her wings powerfully ripping through the air as she headed towards Ponyville from Cloudsdale. She had had a meeting today for the weather factory, one she had wanted to be present for since it was announced they would be holding it. The only thing she wasn't looking forward to was the flight back. She had planned a day to spend with her friend Twilight Sparkle, arguably the friend she spent the least amount of time with and had wanted to make it a point to hang out with her more often.
So tired wings be damned she wasn't going to miss today or even be remotely late. Twilight was never EVER late for anything. Admittedly, she had been taking that aspect of Twilight and her attention to detail with her and has been applying it to her work in the factory every day that she could. Three years ago, she could have cared less, but now she was the example at work.
It took her sometime admittedly to come to grips with this. She took naps on the regular during work though only after finishing her work in regular time. She had always worked better solo, but now she was leading groups of ponies to become better who were actually finally starting to come into their own. These were things she wanted to talk about with Twilight, she finally had something she could talk about with Twilight that they might have some even ground on and that excited her as well.
Oh come on wings! Don't you dare quit on me now I don't quit on you!
Rainbow leaned her head down, gritting her teeth. She ignored the signs about her, listened to the scream of the air and focused on the large oak tree in the middle of the town that had quietly captured her heart. The window, she was going to make a smooth landing, catch her breath, and relax. Though the rice cakes were not something she was looking forward to... or... maybe it was. She did go out of her way to try making her home comfortable for others to join her in. After all, Rainbow wasn't a professional herself by any stretch of the means.
Rainbow's magenta eyes snapped open wide as emergency landing protocol had begun to run through her head, front flipping forward in the air and giving two painful flaps of her wings to slow herself down before she fits right through Twilight's window. Her cyan legs outstretched themselves and much to her delight, a crash pad made completely of pillows awaiting her. Without so much as a second thought, she willingly fell into it, gripping a pillow and flips about twice before landing on her rump, giggling, ignoring the screaming sensation from several ligaments and tendons in her left wing.
"Hiya... Twi... light! Whew! What a... what a day!" Rainbow says, taking several deeps breaths, watching as several drops of sweat leave the front of her wild, prismatic mane. She took another few moments before finally getting her breathing under control, smiling wide as she springs up to her hooves and walks up to her friend.
"I'm not late am I? I really really really hope I'm not late. I completely forgot I had a meeting in Cloudsdale today and I tried my hardest to get back here ASAP! Which..." Rainbow looks around almost surprised. "Where are the books at Twilight?"
An explosion of pillows caught Twilight off guard and she quickly turned to see the blue mare flipping onto her rump. The Unicorn was glad she had covered all of her bases... she hadn't expected Rainbow to come from that direction. "Oh my gosh, are you okay?" she went over to Rainbow Dash with a quick trot. She gave Rainbow a cursory look over to see if she had any injuries about herself, and sighed when she hadn't seen anything obviously wrong with her friend.
"You're not late at all. I was just about to put down the check list." After Dash seemed to get her breathing under control Twilight's horn lit up with magic. From her small kitchen there was the tell tale sound of running water for a moment before a glass of it floated its way over to Rainbow. "Here, drink this. You look like you could use it." she smiles. If she had come from Cloudsdale after an unexpected meeting she must have pushed herself quite a bit.
"The books are all on the shelves Rainbow Dash. Today let's do whatever you want to do. If you'll let me get a book we can even talk about sportsball, or the Wonderbolts." Twilight had set up the environment for them to hang out in, but it was going to be up to Rainbow Dash to take the lead. It was about time that Twilight explored a bit on what her friend liked. Who knows... maybe she might end up enjoying sportsball.
Was she okay? Rainbow can give a damn fine facade she was okay, but in reality, she was hurt like hell. Broken bones in a wing can definitely hurt but to Rainbow, tear a ligament bad enough or rupture a tendon and you could do permanent damage. Not that she was going to tell anyone that.
"Yeah, I'm alright! My wings just feel a little tired, nothing a fun day with a friend can't fix but call me surprised that you totally didn't load up on the rice cakes and the books! I was totally thinking I was going to try really hard today to find something else other than Daring Do. Thanks for the water, you have no idea how badly I've wanted this."
Rainbow was a full on athlete anyway you looked at her. From head to hoof, from the way she thought to the way she acted, she was an athlete. Even in the evolution of her growth, she had begun to take that next step that all great athletes make whether it be in an actual sport or in the career that they worked in. This growth for Rainbow had come unexpectedly, especially since many ponies including herself figured she'd be way too caught up in herself to spend extra time in the books or reading through the paperwork, figuring out where not only she can improve but help her co-workers improve. She took a sip of the water before smiling up at Twilight.
"Well... today was something I was really proud about! I mean, I forgot to tell you about the meeting and was almost late in being able to hang out today, so that aside, I've been wanting to share this with you for awhile Twilight! It's... not about the Wonderbolts... orrr sportsball. I'll... try to keep it too short. I don't want to bore you with too much of the details... I'm not sure how much into weather you are."
In truth, she just didn't want to embarrass herself in front of Twilight. She had never gotten very excited about much of anything aside from the Wonderbolts and competition, but she hadn't even told anypony else about how her weather career had been taking off and even more so, she was doing this with a smile. So with a proud smile, she gives herself a moment before beginning.
"So... today's meeting at Cloudsdale was an annual meeting to give progress reports to the towns within Equestria. Ponyville had been... decent when I arrived here, but it could have been better. So when I come here, sure things look up and I can knock out the cloud filled sky in ten seconds flat as well as make sure the weather for the day gets put up as it needs to be by myself. Woohoo, Ponyville immediately starts to increase in approval rating. Great. Only one problem.
"I... was caught up in myself... like a lot as you probably know. I'd take naps in the middle of work even though I was finished, I'd ignore what others had to say to me and do it myself. I'd even save the day when others goofed but... why save the day when I could have been helping them the entire time?
"So within the last year or so, I had begun to notice these things among others and... really wanted to change. Ponyville's approval rating was higher than it ever was, but it could have been better! I don't mean better to the point that only Ponyville benefits, I mean better to the point that other cities would benefit from us! I've been dedicating myself to the paperwork and the supply charts, weather history and even the staff management. Manehattan struggles a lot with their staff, they're really short hooved and anypony they've hired recently hasn't performed up to snuff. They don't even have a pony in a leadership position who knows what they've been doing.
"So aside from my main team here, I've been helping the other teams as well learn how to properly divide teams up to deal with... say thunderheads and rain clouds. The ponies who aren't electrically resistant need to work on the rain clouds and you wouldn't believe how often ponies seem to forget about that. I mean, sure sometimes you're underhoofed but if that's the case, you've gotta go out there and find some! Ponies lives are at risk! Anyways, so once I spent about a half year with them, I sent them to Manehattan in return for a few of their ponies so I can teach them as well. Canterlot's been struggling with having enough stratus clouds in supply, so we've sent the reserves that we had built up over the past couple of years because I know how to use clouds to the fullest extent without using every bit of it. Now, Canterlot has enough clouds to make sure they get through this winter and the next with proper amounts of snowfall!
"To top it all off, Ponyville's approval rating has sky rocketed! My main team can handle just about anything that gets thrown their way as fast as I can do it on my own, and together we absolutely kick flank at it! I... admit I'm still not perfect at this whole... leadership thingie, I mean, I kinda just wanted to have a plan together in case I couldn't be the hero for Ponyville and before you know it... I'm getting a pay raise for something that I'm having the most fun in my life doing and I don't even care about the raise. This is something I care about, I don't need bits! Wonderbolts aside, this job is a joy to have!"
Twilight sat in awe of Rainbow Dash. There was so much she just said and it was taking a moment for her to process it. This was a side of her she barely got to see and now it was all out in the open. Most ponies when it came to talking about the weather it was rather mundane small talk. Rainbow here could talk about the weather. Rainbow Dash... was an egg head.
Twilight's horn lit up with a magical aura once again as she pulled some pillows around Rainbow Dash. Instead of crash landing pillows these were proper cushions to sit on. "I'm so proud of you Rainbow! Getting a raise for your efforts is amazing! Not only that, but Ponyville is being used as an example and place to train other weather teams?" Rainbow's energy was infectious, and Twilight was all kinds of excited about things now.
The purple Unicorn paced in front of her friend before she sat down in front of Dash. There was so much to cover. So much they could talk about. She lookwed at Rainbow with excited eyes. "Tell me about your favorite type of cloud. Tell me everything."
Holy crap! Is Twilight actually wanting to... of course she is! I actually have something to talk about with Twilight and she wants to listen to it! Okay, okay, calm down, start squeeing now and she might take you to a mental ward... and I don't do white padded rooms either.
"It is! Because of everypony's efforts and... their patience with me trying to put everypony in the right spot for the right situation and drilling them on it, making sure we stay on top of our game and even taking a few hours after work just to make sure the paperwork and the supplies are all in check, Ponyville's weather teams are being looked at as teams that can be used throughout the entire country to make sure we're better prepared to handle any situation that comes up.
"So... in order to make clouds, you've gotta have enough water being evaporated into the sky, creating water vapor which will create clouds. The clouds move based off the direction of wind and where we're located, we get the winds called the Westerlies. More times than not, unless something unplanned comes off the shore, you're going to see clouds rolling west, in the direction that the sun sets in. This also means that whatever kind of weather we plan, we have to take into affect the western winds, so rain, snow, sleet, hail, it all is going to travel west. How strong, that depends on the strength of the wind which we pegasi can affect should we want to.
"So my we'll start off with cirrus clouds. Those are those stringy, feathery looking clouds you see anytime of the year really. Usually if you see those clouds, it's going to be a good day and a high pressure system is rolling through. What you want to keep in mind is that the higher the pressure, the better the weather is going to be. But if cumulus clouds otherwise known more commonly as your puffy clouds start rolling in with your cirrus clouds, it's possible that a low pressure system is moving in. We can create rainstorms without this system, but it's really beneficial if we have this system to help out. It already produces cumulus clouds that we won't have to use from our supplies and provides us with a decent wind.
"In any storm, there's going to be a descent in pressure. Though you can tell the severity of it by how low it gets. The lower it is, the worse it's going to be. So... for instance, a hurricane is a widespread, heavy wind counter clockwise spinning storm that... really just wrecks havoc everywhere. Normally you think the larger it is, the worse it is. Wrong. Dead wrong, unless the pressure is so tightly knitted inside the larger hurricanes it has to expand, the smaller the hurricane, the worse it is. You'll see more severe winds, heavier rainfalls, and more likely to see tornadoes and lightning strikes. Also, if hurricanes in the northern hemisphere turned clockwise instead of counterclockwise... heh... we'd have large scale hurricanes with over three hundred mile per hour winds. Glad we don't have to deal with that.
"But you won't have to worry about that here. That's for places closer to the coast than we are. So Cumulus clouds which... actually are my favorite, pack in a bunch of water crystals that will fall and rise within the cloud as it expands and evaporates more water. This is where things can get a bit hectic. In a normal, unattended storm, you get enough warm air rising into the cloud as well as the cold front that it's bringing with it, and it creates what's known as a cumulonimbus cloud. Basically the clouds that tower above everything else and looks like they want to hurt you. Dark and sinister, really nasty things.
"This is where my butt gets put on the line everyday. In order to prevent tornadoes from forming with our created storms, we have boxes that contain the thunderheads. Normal pegasi who have no electrical resistance should stay far away from these storms and work on gathering enough rain for the storm. They get so much as grazed by a lightning bolt and they'll end up in the ICU. I however, have a surreal electrical resistance, so naturally this makes me the head of dealing with unboxing and tending to these clouds. We have a whole protocol for just unboxing thunderheads, let alone putting it all together. But in the end, there's not a cold front moving through because this storm was pony created, so the worse you'll get is a bunch of wind, heavy rainfall and some lightning. In a real storm, you'll have hail, sleet, and even tornadoes. Sometimes, the sky will turn green around the clouds as they approach. It's totally awesome to watch.
"Now, you've heard of cumulus clouds, cirrus clouds, and cumulonimbus clouds. So naturally, we have nimbus clouds. Similar to cumulus clouds, but the difference is is that they produce rain, sleet, hail in very moderate conditions. We normally won't use these clouds, stratus clouds would be more preferable for snowy days which are those clouds that look like they've got rolling bumps along the bottoms of them. But nimbus clouds are currently evaporating water as well as dumping off. They might give you a long slow shower or so, but nothing severe. However, streaks of clouds that fall off nimbus clouds, the ones you'd see after a calm shower, are called virga clouds. They're pretty feathery and stringy too, only it first was a streak of precipitation that fell off the nimbus cloud and evaporated before it hit the ground.
"So we have quotas to hit every day every week every month every year. We get a number of supplies which are based off the years before and averaged up so that way we can have a season that would be appropriate. So for example, last year for summer we got a lot of thunderstorms? No problem, we'll cut back on the thunderstorms this year by about twenty percent and ramp up the quick passing by showers by ten percent, giving an additional ten percent sunlight for ponies to enjoy. But if the Apples need a good rain because the spring was dry, instead of giving everything at once, we'll space it out over time so... like one big storm that was planned for a Tuesday now gets turned into a small yet long shower for Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday.
"At the end of the day being the last at the office, I jot down everything from what ponies need to what we need to meet upon what we have and try my hardest to find a formula that makes it all fit. It's a really demanding job but if you sit down and mess around with it enough, it does come to life. I've yet to find one situation in the past six months that I haven't been able to solve. I'm really having a lot of fun Twilight!"
If excitement wasn't written in her voice, her body language certainly was displaying it. Her wings despite the pain had unfurled and somewhat curled towards the tips of her feathers as they bristle with excitement. Her tail sweeps across the floor in it's prismatic glory, glistening from gathered sweat from earlier though smelling of rainwater as is her entire body. Her magenta eyes shone as the gears in her head turned in perfect unison, a wide smile spreading across her face.
Twilight sat and listened intently as Rainbow Dash spoke at length about clouds. She had asked about Rainbow's favorite cloud, and now was hearing about all of them! The Rainbow Dash in front of her was a different pony than the one she met on her first day here in Ponyville. She was also a very different Twilight Sparkle from back then. How the times have changed.
One thing hand't changed. When It was clear Rainbow Dash was going to talk about any cloud under the sun, she got a notes pad and a pencil and began taking notes. When Dash was finished Twilight didn't wait for her to catch her breath, she pounced on her (figuratively) with questions. "Why are smaller storms more dangerous than larger ones? Why does it's rotation matter in its severity? How does the sky turn green? I want to know more about what you do, tell me!"
Twilight looked at Rainbow expectantly, ready to start taking more notes about the weather. Her striped tail swishes and wraps around her as she holds her notepad in her magic. They had found a topic they could both geek out about. Most ponies would laugh it off, but Rainbow Dash and Twilight could probably sit for hours and talk about the weather.
Yep, this was officially going to be the coolest day ever. Rainbow had been so worried that Twilight was going to get revenge on her and begin teasing her for being such a geek on weather but instead all she got was what she really expected from her friend which was an excited interest in what made Rainbow happy. Which was great! Not only was Twilight excited about it, but out of their group of friends, Twilight was also the only one who really could hold the mental capacity of everything weather had to give and be able to hold an intelligent conversation with her on the subject!
Wait... did I just involve 'intelligent conversation', myself, and egghead here?
Rainbow Dash smiles and shakes her head, partially to keep her bangs from plastering themselves to her slightly damp but drying fur. It was an amazing feeling being able to talk to somepony about one of her own secret delights in life. It was also nice that she didn't have to put on this face of bravado and give the appearance of a hero, tomboy, somepony cool. She would tell anypony were it not for her insecurity of being picked on that this facade was tiring.
"Well think of storms like this. The larger it is the more widespread everything has to be and the more it takes to make it work. Liiike... say there's two kingdoms. One is really really large and widespread while the other holds several other areas but for the most part is tightly knitted together. It's going to take more to support that larger kingdom and make it tick than it would the more tightly knitted, smaller, more compact kingdom. Unless of course the larger kingdom could simply keep up with the demand, in which in that case, we have super storms.
"The most common of this kind is what's known as a supercell storm. These are the thunderstorms that have a large chance of creating severe weather that's all around destructive. High winds, hail, tornadoes, all with the possibility of being even worse than a normal thunderstorm can give. The cold front that comes with every storm is especially powerful, the updraft of warm air meeting it is in abundance therefore building up the cell to an enormous size. In this instance, when rain rises and falls, slowly turning into hail due to the cold front, it can hold more of it and in heavier volumes. These storms are also normally being affected by another wind from down south by the coast, Stream winds which will also increase the severity of storms. Just... there's a lot there.
"So there's theories as to why skies turn green before a really really bad storm. Hopefully you'll never see this, if you do, you had better be on my back and we had better been chasing storms rather than been having one dumped on us. The first theory is that the air molecules scatter light. Like when you look at a mountain, the skies typically look blue. So... late in the day, the sky tends to turn a bit of a reddish yellow hue, so you mix that with the air molecules that have a natural blue color to them, then add in the darker background with the storm blocking off the sun, and it tends to turn it into a sickish green color.
"The second theory is that the water molecules gathered up by the storm, when in enough volume do indeed give off a blueish hue to them, and then you add in the low yellow color the setting sun can give off and you'll get a green sky that way. Either way, you're getting a terrible storm and you had either be chasing it from a safe distance or get somewhere into cover. It's not going to be pretty.
"Rotation in a storm... it's... everything. In tornadoes, the more rotation you can get out of it, the stronger it becomes. Tornadoes can give off wind speeds of three hundred miles an hour in... worst case scenarios. In other words, everything in its path is getting upheaved and thrown everywhere. Entire buildings have been engulfed by it and when you look at it afterwards, there's either just pure carnage or there's nothing at all left. If you get sucked up by one, you could be thrown about five miles in any direction, the chances of you living through the impact is severely low.
"So in a hurricane, I believe the direction of a hurricane's rotation depends on the polar axis of the world, you know, the north and the south pole. So think of a tornado, three hundred mile per hour winds and a mile and a half in diameter? Now imagine a storm with that capability but the size of at least half a continent that could spawn up those same tornadoes.
"But the more that a storm can rotate, the more its center can become more defined. In a hurricane, you do not want this. The more defined a hurricane becomes, the more developed the eye of the storm becomes. It's a large central hole in the middle of the storm that while it seems peaceful, the worst riptides, wind speeds, and storm surge happens then. You would be better off taking the full brunt of the outside than two hours of the eye of the storm. The damage that can occur between the two isn't even comparable."
Rainbow reached over and took a bite of a carrot before sipping her water. The gears in her head were definitely on full speed ahead as she watched Twilight take note of what she was saying. This was new to her, but it was incredibly fun! Before long, she hoped the two could hold simple days outside talking about the clouds and such. It... was an incredible silly thought, but it was her incredibly silly thought and she loved it.
Twilight's pencil scribbled furiously across her notepad as Rainbow spoke. "Ohh I see what you mean. You could have two storms with the same amount of energy behind them, but the smaller one would have a more focused impact on an area than something wide spread where the load would be evenly distributed over a wider area." she commented. It made perfect sense. She knew a bit about the weather before, but mostly how to read some instrumentation and reference a book to find out how the weather was going to be before checking the newspaper.
"So if rotation is based off of the poles and axis of the planet, then a storm rotating in its opposite way would mean that there is a lot more going on and a lot more to worry about than just it." Twilight sat back and let out a sigh as she gave her horn a rest. "Whoah, that was a lot really fast. Alright Oooonnne last question. Are clouds made into shapes by the weather factory and weather teams, do is that all air currents?"
Why in the world couldn't I have newbies that can understand that logic like you can!? I had to spend a week with some of the last group of newbies we had to make sure they understood as to why bigger is not always better. Or more powerful so to speak. If the hurricane can keep the millibars of pressure down considerably while it's huge, then yes, it is by far more destructive. Ugh... newbies. Now I feel like my Literature teacher trying to teach me how to spell... that's for another time.
This was nice. Sure enough Twilight's magic in the means of merely writing things down was for certain being exercised. It wasn't everyday you were practically dumped a summarized version of a high school to college level bit of information about weather instantly. But just as Twilight always does, if something is thoroughly explained or if there's enough there to make logical conclusions, she never failed to perfectly comprehend it.
Oh, well... heh, it's a mix really. See some days, the shape of the cloud really depends on what we can do with it. By that I mean like when I tell you that I can take a box of stratus clouds and save forty percent of what's in that box and cover just as much territory with enough water crystals to create the same amount of precipitation should precipitation be called for? Then that's us doing our work.
Another thing we do is on some holidays or upon certain requests, we make shapes with the clouds though under tight supervision. We don't wanna make just anything in the sky. I mean, I enjoy a laugh as much as the next pony, but I love my job more so... yea. But no like on Hearts and Hooves, look for some heart shaped clouds or look for some pony's name being joined with "Will you go out with me?". It's always a riot.
But you could probably safely assume that about seventy percent of the cloud's shapes are created by the air currents and any other weather influence such as updrafts and jet streams. Heh... I didn't tired you out did I? I started thinking your quill was going to go up in flames it was scribbling so much.
"Hey, you were a "newbie"," she made air quotes with her hooves, "once before too Rainbow Dash. You know ponies can't just start off being amazing. You got to build them up, and I know you'll stick right by the ones you believe can do it." She was relieved to hear that clouds were not left up to the individual weather ponies for shaping, though also a little disheartened. She had never been one to look up at clouds to see what kinds of shapes they were in until she had seen Applejack and Pinkie Pie doing it and they made her open her eyes and do it. So all the scenes she saw up there were mostly her mind making sense of the data being fed to it.
On the other side of the cover though she could see why the weather team would be so well supervised. There were probably a few ponies who would succumb to dares or want to pull pranks. Speaking of pranks... "So, have you ever shaped any clouds behind your managers back for a laugh? Any on the job mischief?"
"Oh I know they'll be great. I'm not exactly sure how I'ma make them great, but I'll figure something out. But it doesn't take a genius to know what makes a cloud. Even those in the factory that we package we use evaporating water to make. Without moisture, there's no cloud. Simple as that."
"Heh, not gonna lie though, it's kinda hard imagining that you didn't know how to read once in awhile. There was a time I wouldn't have been surprised if you were born with a book in your hooves, those big purple eyes of yours scanning those pages left to right. Heh, the doctors probably told your parents that you were incredibly smart. Somehow, they always seem to know what a foal's gonna be like, really strong, really smart, really quick. I unno heheh."
Rainbow places a hoof on her chin, tapping it in sincere thought. Had she ever played a prank? If she had, it had to have been when she first joined up. She almost couldn't remember until her magenta eyes lit up. Now she remembered, it had really really REALLY been a long time ago.
"Well when I first joined up my manager was... kinda a jerk. I mean, there's hazing the newbies and then there's taking it too far... sooo one day afterwards I had built this HUGE GIGANTIC cannon made of clouds and aimed it at his office... heheh... heheheheh... I made a fuse out of clouds and when he walked up to his window I yanked it and watched a wall of water break through his office and slam him against the wall."
Rainbow begins laughing, rolling onto her back and kicking her legs. "The look on his face was priceless when he saw that a cannon bigger than the weather factory had been aimed right at him with me sitting on top! Hahahahahahaha! Pinkie... Pinkie Pie's party cannon gave me the idea and it was so AWESOME! He couldn't even do anything about it because of what he did to me. Oooo boy... nothing like, terriblly bad, but it was enough to get him demoted so we went our separate ways after that. I... may have stored enough clouds since to build another if need be."
Twilight listened to Rainbow Dash as she started off with her story. With how she was describing her manager she knew that this was not going to be a simple story. This wasn't some whoopee cushion level joke that was going to come up. Her eyes widened as Dash confirmed her suspicions with the words HUGE GIGANTIC cannon. She knew where this was going. The responsible part of her brain wanted to chastise Rainbow and tell her maybe she went a little far.
The Unicorn laughed. She let go of some of her inhibitions and took the story as it was, a funny story. Maybe she didn't roll on her back kicking her legs, but her tummy was getting a workout! "Oh gosh, another one? I wouldn't want to be the pony whose on the receiving end of that! Hehehe.... but seriously. Not around the books."
She cleared her throat and gave Rainbow a conspiratorial look before she leaned in. "Do you want to hear about the time I got Princess Celestia?"
Rainbow laughed as she held her own tummy, the feathers upon her cyan blue wings humming happily and energetically. Twilight was laughing with her! She wasn't scolding Rainbow for doing something that had been completely irresponsible! Who was this mare and what had she done with Twilight Sparkle!? Heheheh... not that I mind, I really like this side of Twi.
It wasn't often her friend, the queen of morality and doing things right and reasonably, would side with her on something like that. No this was something more in Spike's area that Twilight would always give him a flat look for, but today, Twilight had given anything but a flat look at Rainbow! Either Rainbow was having a really good day today, or she was becoming entirely luck based. She wouldn't complain about either.
However, Rainbow's eyes widen as she looks at Twilight. Princess Celestia!? No way, nah uh, THE! PRINCESS! CELESTIA!? EGGHEAD!? Just the simple mention of it seemed to want to fry Rainbow's mind. There was just no way whatsoever that Twilight did that!... Which just gave Rainbow all the more reason to open an ear and gladly listen. "You!? Pranking The Princess Celestia, the same Princess you thought would send you back to Celestia's School for Magic because you didn't write about what you had learned about that day in time? No way... you've gotta tell me now Twi." Rainbow said as she leaned closer to Twilight from her laying down position, a smug smile on her face but her magenta eyes filled to the brim with interest.
Twilight looked left, then right, checking to make absolutely sure there were no other ears around who could hear them. A smile was on her face and she leaned in close to Rainbow to quietly relay the story. "So you know about April Fool's Day, correct?" It was a rhetorical question. Of course Rainbow Dash would know about it. "Well one time Princess Celestia assigned me work to report on a minor holiday, one I wouldn't normally pick, that way I had to research it."
"So... I had to research pranks, for science, and had to pull one, for science. Shining Armor was in the guard, and so I couldn't get him easily, and this was at a time where I had moved out of my home to be closer to the Palace... so that left Celestia. So... hehe... I found a book she was reading... and moved her bookmark ahead one chapter." Twilight put a hoof in front of her mouth as she giggled. While that was a bit of a naughty thing to do, it wasn't the end of it. Just thinking of the end of it made her pause to compose herself. "That's not all, that's not all. I used a little magic, so when she opened up to where she was before... confetti popped out at her face!" Twilight rolled onto her side as she laughed.

The Fun Has Been Doubled! is a My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic moderate-to-advanced forum roleplay. Set after the events of the fifth season, we currently have no overarching plot. Instead, we simply have created the world of Equestria for you as a giant playground to have fun in and to explore the magic of friendship. Canon characters and original characters are available for you to play as, both ponies and non-pony species alike! Just remember that we are account-per-character and we'll be fine!
So why don't you stay for a while, look around, and let us know if we should get a welcome party started for you.
