Oh he hoped he didn’t just make things awkward with his response. Yes she seemed genuinely moved by the comment, but now things had gotten quiet between the two of them. He still had a smile on, but that was about the best he could do. There was a genuine concern on his part that maybe he had gone a little too sentimental in his statements; he had an issue with that. Twas part of sometimes travelling alone; you got to thinking about things and start philosophizing and no one stopped your monologues. By then your language gets all flowery and touching and so when you get a chance to use it, well, you took it. Now that he was actually using it, however, it seemed like a bad idea, but at least she did look like she appreciated it even if she was a bit embarrassed about it. Once she was shyly looking down at the ground, his smile was gone and he took a quick breath of relief. While it would be better for her to have said something, at least she wasn’t staring at him anymore.
Silence followed for a bit before finally being broken by arrival at the café. Yes, food; the perfect way to either start a conversation or to kill it again by having them stuff their faces. It was a gamble that he was willing to take in this situation and in his excitement to make things better he seemed to have brought on a little more awkwardness by holding the door open. How could a simple act of politeness bring about another bout of bashfulness from his grey-coated companion? Maybe he was just over-analyzing things; he had a tendency to do that as well. He should just relax and let things move on to a more casual level instead of fussing over awkwardness. If he kept focusing on that, well he’d probably keep on doing stuff to continue it.
”Your welcome madame,” he replied, laughing a little to try and loosen up his nerves a little.
Seeing as Derpy knew the place better than him, he let her take the lead in finding themselves a place to sit. She chose a very lovely spot next to a window with lots of natural sunshine coming through. In this nice and cozy little spot, he could see the appeal of the café. Small, charming, very homely feeling. Much better than sitting at home with a fruit salad (of which he would probably order one). He had always enjoyed places that could invoke a sense of family and closeness, almost as much as he enjoyed his adventures and excitement. They were always the best place to go when one needed a break from exploring and doing other dangerous things.
”Yes, I can see how it would do that. It’s got a very cozy feel to it that makes you feel like you’re at home,” he replied, looking around at the place and taking it all in. He was also trying to avoid looking directly at Derpy, slightly afraid doing so might cause another awkward pause in between them. As that got old really quickly, however, he turned his attention back to her.
”So then, uhm, how old exactly is your daughter then? Does she have her cutie mark yet or…?”
He was not a master of idle conversation at all.
