Vortex could not believe the scene in front of him as he had boarded the train to Baltimare with his ticket. It was jaw-dropping to say the least. As he moved further in the train car, he was surrounded by glittering plates and glasses and elegant seats.
"Wow... I hope that I can fit the standard," he said to himself out loud, having kept his mane in his preferred style. He had decided to wear a nice tie for the occasion, a light blue to match his goggles so as not to be too informal for his first date. He had signed up for this blind date to make a new friend after all and to get away from his cluttered, note-ridden house for more than an hour.
As he reached the reserved seating, Vortex noticed that the mystery date had not gotten to the seat yet. He sat down slowly, checking his reflection in the window before being content with his appearance.
First class. Spitfire almost groaned at the thought. Memories of her mother grooming her to be a proper Canterlot High-class pony flooded her. She instinct fully straightened up and she brushed a hood through her mane, straightening it out. Despite the fact she had an old pair of goggles (With a relatively new strap, and Wonderbolt coloring) around her neck, she looked almost proper.
As she stepped onto the train, she saw the stallion looking around, looking completely out of his element. Spitfire smirked. She didn't wear her Uniform today, so she wondered how long it would take him to figure out who she was.
"My word. Such slummy conditions? They couldn't pay me enough for this." Her voice held a perfect mockery of a Canterlot accent. As she approached the Stallion, she looked him up and down. "I suppose you're to be my date? I am Stormy Flare. It's... 'nice' to meet you" She said, reaching out a hoof.

He gulped slightly, trying to swallow the last of his nerves down as he looked at the surprise date. The way she had spoken to him gave off the impression of someone used to, maybe even bored of, first class travel. The only thing that threw him off was the pair of goggles around her neck.
Okay Vortex, be cool. Just shake hooves and begin a conversation... And for the love of Celestia, DON'T MESS UP! "Nice to meet you Miss Flare, he said as he shook her hoof. "Vortex Storm." So far so good.
He looked at the goggles, still slightly curious about them. "Those are some cool goggles." Nailed it. Totally didn't mess up.
Spitfire kept her bored look until the stallion pointed out the goggles. She realized with how worn the things looked by this point, there was no way to keep the charade up. So she grinned and relaxed into her normal, laid back posture. "Sorry. I couldn't help it. Just trying to get you to panic about the date." She said with a chuckle. he Canterlot accent disappearing.
"Yeah, these are my day-off goggles. I use these when I have to fly outside of uniform." She said, holding them up to show the signature on the top edge of the goggles. 'Jetstream' the signature said. "The previous Wonderbolt captain. Met her when I was a filly and she gave me these. I've enchanted them since then so the signature will never fade, and so they won't break. I've had to change the strap a few times though." She said with a chuckle, putting them back onto her neck. "You're goggles aren't half bad either. Maybe we'll spend some of our date flying together."

The green pegasus's eyes went wide with awe as soon as he heard that the goggles were from the previous Wonderbolt captain. "The previous captain... But that means you're...!" he started to say, but caught himself so as not to cause a commotion in the train car. He smiled a bit, trying to remain as calm as possible knowing he was on the date with Spitfire.
Be cool be cool be cool! "Thanks. Hopefully we can enjoy a flight, although my goggles don't have quite as amazing a story as yours."
Spitfire smiled as he cut himself off. "The Fiery Phoenix of the Wonderbolts? Captain Spitfire?" She asked, nodding a little. "Yeah, sometimes. But today I'm just regular ol' Spitfire."
She smiled and put a hoof to her goggles for a brief moment. Then she looked to him with a smirk. "Those are the goggles you wore when you met Spitfire and went to Baltimare with her on A Hearts and Hooves day date. I'd say that's a pretty good story. And hey, maybe I'll sign them for ya so your friends believe you when you tell them."

Vortex blushed as he heard her remark, his light green coat not helping much hide the color in his cheeks. "That would be amazing, thank you," he replied.
Now that he thought about it, this would be his first time in Baltimare, Vortex wondered if it was Spitfire's as well. "Hey, Spitfire. I know this may be a dumb question, seeing as how the Wonderbolts travel to a lot of places, but have you been to Baltimare? This will be my first visit."
Spitfire nodded. "I've been in Baltimare. But I've never been TO Baltimare. Yknow?" She realized that didn't make much sense as soon as she said it. "We've done shows there, but I never did have time to explore it as a tourist. The other bolts have while I was stuck doing paperwork, and I've been brought some of the foods, but exploring should be fun!" She said, shifting in her seat excitedly.
"But first... my favorite part of riding first class. Probably the only part I like..." She clapped her Hooves together twice and a waiter came over to them. Her Canterlot accent returned. "Garson, I would like a Sandwich. One Portobello mushroom sautéed and topped with a tomato and a light dusting of onion powder. And make sure it's on lightly toasted rye bread. And a Glass of Lime-flavored Sparkling water. Perrier, please." She said, looking towards Vortex. A small grin appeared as she tried to hold back from laughing about how ridiculous she sounded.

He held in his laughter, clearing his throat as he tried his best to use a Canterlot accent. "Make that two Lime-flavored sparkling waters," he said as the accent wasn't as fluid as Spitfire's with small giggles barely being suppressed.
As the waiter left, he couldn't hold back anymore and he ended up in a laughing fit. "That was too good. Amazing acting from your part if I may say so myself." He turned his gaze outside the window, calming himself down a bit.
Spitfire smirked at the compliment as she looked toward Vortex. "That's because it wasn't acting." She said, dropping a huge bombshell on the conversation. In all of her interviews, she avoided the questions of where she was brought up. She always told them she 'always enjoyed flying from a young age' or 'loved looking down on the world from the clouds' to vaguely insinuate that she had grown up in Cloudsdale.
That wasn't the truth though. "My father was always alright with me being a rough-and-tumble kind of girl. I grew up with more guy friends than girl friends, and that came with, well, being one of the guys when I was young." She started. "But mom wanted me to grow up proper, because we lived in Canterlot. So she tried to groom me to be a proper lady. Part of it stuck with me, which helps me out with interviews and whatnot. But point is, I /was/ a Canterlot pony, and now I'm not."

Vortex's looked at her in shock, having always assumed she was from Cloudsdale as well because of how she answered interviews. "Wow. I guess I was wrong since I thought you were from Cloudsdale. That is even more amazing though that you an amazing flyer and coming from Canterlot."
He thought back, remembering his childhood from back home. "I've never really been to places like Canterlot. I grew up in Fillydelphia with my parents, although my dad was always away with guard duties it seemed. Mom was always cheering me on though, not counting the time I was failing a language class," he chuckled slightly as the waiter returned with both their orders. "Oh thank you."
(Sorry it took so long. Things have been all over the place this last week.)
Spitfire listened to the stallion speak, nodding slowly and glancing down as the beverages were brought in. She gave her thanks and looked to Vortex with a smile. "It's good to have parents that support you. I see so many cadets at the Academy who's parents think they should get their heads out of the clouds and do something else..."
She sighed slightly. "Granted, sometimes, the parents are right. But I hate it when my Cadets are just there to prove their parents wrong. It always comes back to bite me in the flank..." She looked out the window for a moment. "What fun do you think awaits us in Baltimare?"

(It's alright. Sorry for being late myself, term papers and other classwork has had me booked.)
Vortex listened quietly, listening to the story about the cadets while nodding slowly and sipping on his drink. "Well I have no idea what could be in store, but either way I'm sure it'll be amazing. I even heard there was a fair in town," he said as he finished up his beverage.
He stretched his wings slightly as he got up for a bit to stretch. "I wonder what all the fair will have, since it is in a big city and all."
"No idea! But I do know that we're supposed to be getting some bits as part of the date, to spend at the fair. So nothing out of our own pockets." Spitfire said with a smirk. Speaking of which... She reached into her bag and pulled out a bombers jacket, and slipped it on, her wings wriggling out through little holes on the sides.
"As I recall, Baltimare is a coastal town, which means there's going to be a pretty cold breeze blowing in from the ocean." Spitfire explained. "And, well, the Fire part of my name is a bit more literal than you would think. I've always been a little warmer blooded." She smile, leaning a bit to look out the window. "Oooh, I think we're getting close!"

Vortex just smiled as Spitfire pulled the jacket on. Smart, considering he had completely forgotten that it is a bit colder than Ponyville. "That's a good idea. I wish I thought about the weather a bit more, considering my work," he chuckled a bit at his foolishness. "Hopefully I still have some tolerance to the cold from living in Filly."
He slowly looked out the window as the train started pulling into the station, the bustling city activity visible from their view. I dunno, but I know that it will beat being cooped up in this train car."
