Oh, what a nice day it was - an excellent change from the rather horrendous storm that had blown through recently. Rarity had heard that it had damaged quite a few buildings in town and out on the Apple family farm. It sounded disastrous, and made her all the happier that her job didn't involve mucking around in the post-rain swamp that some of the Ponyville roads turned into after a good shower. Ugh, that thick ooze gunked on like some kind of disgusting frosting and it was near impossible to get out of her white fur.
So she had stayed inside, experimenting with some new dress styles that she hadn't had time for - like this one, a design that she was positive would be a hit with the residents of Canterlot. It was a simple sheath dress in a rich navy blue - and relatively bland looking. Until you got close, that is. The entirety of the dress was covered in fine embroidery done in the same color as the fabric - scenes of birds and flowers covered every inch of the design.
Rarity had spent countless hours hand-embroidering - well, horn-embroidering - the fabric, and now all that was left was to add the collar - a simple fold-back should do- and come up with some kind of shoes.
She sighed and sat down for a moment, staring at the dress as she tried to decide what her next move should be. Opal came up to her and Rarity idly raised a hoof to pet the Persian. "What do you think?" she asked the cat after a moment. "Something glossy or something matte?"
The cat yowled, and Rarity threw it a look. "You're no help."
This kind of weather was not acceptable! At the very least, it wasn't acceptable in Canterlot. Never in his life had he witnessed such a terrible storm. Due to the mountain location of Canterlot, a storm like this could have possibly caused a lot damage...and a little bribing from the upper class didn't help things either to keep the weather nice and wonderful. So for most of the night Blueblood had been hiding underneath the bed, scared to death that the inn was going to collapse all around him in the gusts and lightning).
The bigger issue, however, was that he of course lacked experience dealing with the aftermath of such a storm. Happy to just be alive, he had rushed outside to see the new day, only to end up hoof-deep in the most disgusting, thickening, oozing mud he had ever witnessed outside of a high class spa. Speaking of which, he had yet to find one in this town, although he had one recommended to him by some of the ponyfolk. Anyway, point was he wasn't used to this kind of mud, and he found himself slipping face first right into the mud. His face, his tie, his mane. All. Completely. Ruined.
Eventually he calmed down from the resulting freakout, although this speed up his need to try and get an appointment at the local spa place to get a grooming. He was also going to need to get some vestments; that mud was not going to get out of his clothes, and he also might want some less extravagant clothing to wear in the town. If he was to live here, he was going to have to fit the part. Granted he would of course still try to retain some dignity; he was not going to be wadnering around the town wearing a hat like that Applejack did.
When he asked about clothes, he was immediately pointed towards the Caroseul Boutique. Apparently the designer there was absolutely wonderful; even Hoity Toity had liked the designs she made, and Blueblood knew how picky the stallion could be. Such a place seemed to be a rare bastion of civilization in this town, and he figured he might as well grace the place with his patronage. And if things were lucky, he might be able to sweep the mare there off her hooves and play around a little; he needed something to do for fun here after all. What did the ponies of Ponyville do for fun anyway? Bah, it didn't matter; probably just stupid commoner games or something.
And all that was running through his mind as he approached the door of the store. Seeing as the place was open for business, he simply entered to find no one present. Must have been off in another room or something. Well, that was easy to fix.
"Hello, is anypony there? I would like to meet this designer I've heard so much about and make some requests."
Rarity had risen, a pair of shoes in hand, to see how they looked with her new creation when she heard a shout from the main room. She snapped around like a coiled spring, her horn glowing slightly as she threw the curtains surrounding the dress closed just as quickly. "I'll be right there, just a second!" Customers had no business seeing half-completed clothing! As soon as her projects were put away she trotted out into the main room, shoes floating a short ways ahead of her, as they had come off a display rack near the cash register.
But then she saw who the customer actually was, and her jaw went slack. The shoes tumbled from midair into a rumpled heap as Rarity's eyes grew wide, and it took her a minute to get her composure back - and her expression immediately changed to one of fury. Him.
Ooh, the nerve he had to come all the way out here, to her store, after the way he had acted, and want to shop! No one, not even snotty nobility, treated her friends like something that he scraped off the bottom of his hoof, and got away with it.
Rarity shook her head a bit to clear it and frowned, making her point in two flatly-stated words: "Get. Out."
Was the universe simply out to destroy him this day? Was he simply the fool in some grand cosmic joke? Whatever the situation was, none of it truly explained to him why it was that the home of the only civilized pony in Ponyville had to also be the home of her. The slack-jawed look of Rarity was matched only by the confused and desperate to run away look of Blueblood. It took only an instant for him to start backing off, hoping to reach the door before she started on…whatever it was that her fury was wishing to unleash on him. Unfortunately, it didn’t take that long for her to recover, and in a surprising turn of events all he had to face was simply the words “Get. Out.”
That was all he said as he turned around towards the door, his mane flying around into his face from the jerking motion. He was trying to seem proper and dignified still, but all he really was doing was holding back a bit of temper. As his hoof reached for the knob, however, he wondered what he was doing. Sure, he was sort of afraid of this mare, but he was still Prince Blueblood! He would not be bossed around by a commoner, even if it was one who was currently in a state of possibly-well-reasoned rage.
”Wait a moment, who are you to order me around like this?”
Turning around, he faced Rarity again, legs buckling a little. Still, he was determined to hold his ground till at least he can leave in real noble anger, not cowardice. Besides, he was going to have to deal with this soon enough…
”If anything, it is I who should…”
His hoof was up accusingly, but his mouth soon stopped flapping. This was not how he was supposed to behave if he wanted to be back in Canterlot. His family’s commands were quite explicit that he was to befriend Rarity and improve her perception of him. That was obviously not going to happen if he yelled at her.
”I mean, it is I who should be…apologizing? Yes, it is I who should be apologizing for that night. I-it was completely rude of me to have treated you such a manner.”
He smiled, a slight twitch in the corners as he hoped that would at least calm her down enough that he could at least talk and try and work whatever charms he had that could work on her.
