The Great and Powerful Apolo...Thing [Twilight]

Trixie took a deep breath as she stood in front of the door to the giant tree before her. After all this time, this was probably the meeting that she had feared and anticipated the most; meeting Twilight Snarkle…Twilight SPARKLE again. Gah, she needed to work on getting that nickname out of her head if this was going to work in anyway whatsoever. Sure, a part of her still bore a slight anger towards the purple mare for upstaging her all that time ago with the Ursa Minor, but time had passed. Trixie now had some friends…well, some acquaintances at least. She still didn’t know all that much about the whole ‘friend’ thing, but she figured she was doing well enough by now. There was that one crazy stallion Time Turner (who had really pushed her to come here), Soarin’ and Spitfire (okay, the latter was still kind of iffy), and she would count Vinyl too just to make her own numbers look better.

So there, she had some friends now, she could do this. The Great and Powerful Trixie was not going to let nervousness get in the way of meeting up with her arch-rival and…and…grrr, this was getting hopeless! As much as Trixie was wanting to get the words into her head, she just couldn’t. No matter how many times she ran her various friends’ words through her head, it just wasn’t sinking in that she needed to do this…this…”thing”. Yeah, she’d call it that for now. The memories of that night still burned, if only as a small little ember instead of a roaring fire but a fire nonetheless. Still, this had to be done before she chickened out; she would prove that the Great and Powerful Trixie was capable of being a better pony.

”Behold, Twilight Sparkle, The Great and Powerful Trixie has returned!” Trixie shouted as she slammed opened the door and walked into the library. This would have been more dramatic if her cape and hat were with her, or with illusionary magic, but the former were missing and the latter was probably not appropriate to use within the library.

”Trixie has come to discuss with you about the events of…the…night…okay where is she?” Trixie said as she noticed no one was in the downstairs part of the library. Great, her big entrance ruined just like that, and the obvious disappointment was shown by the frown on her face and her half-closed eyes just glaring into the empty space. Sighing, she started looking around for Twilight to redo the entrance once again.

It was the perfect day. I was ready. I armed myself with books, various parchments, and eye-patches, lots of eye-patches. They all were stuffed in my purple saddlebag. "Today's the day!" I murmured to myself. Today I would do a complete report on the solar system with my new telescope I got from eNeigh. I trotted happily to the balcony. It was a sunny autumn day. The fall leaves wandered aimlessly through the wind. A couple decided to land on my tree house. I slipped my nuzzle into my bag and grabbed out a small telescope.

"Errherr!" I said in excitement with my teeth holding the contraption. This was it! Princess Celestia would be so proud! I- ”Behold, Twilight Sparkle, The Great and Powerful Trixie has returned!”[/color] What the-?! I must be hearing things. I put my star gazer on the floor and continued the set-up. I pulled out a small stand out of my bottomless saddle bag. Upon unfolding it, it was revealed to be very lengthy. I knelled down and picked up the little telescope with care. I was about to put on the final piece when I heard a giant crash. Ok, I officially wasn't hearing things.

Could she really be back? After a year? ”Trixie has come to discuss with you about the events of…the…night…okay where is she?” I wasn't in the mood for one of her "magic duels" or such. I hesitated. Maybe she changed. Maybe she wanted friendship. But there was still a risk that her heart still wanted feud. I decided to give her a chance. Even if she wanted to clash how bad can it be?

I trotted downstairs. "Hello there." I said with a cheery voice. What brings you here today?"

After knocking over a bookcase in her hunt for Twilight Sparkle, Trixie was beginning to wonder if maybe the librarian was not around. That was making this entire thing a waste of time on her part. And after having run into just about every other store in Ponyville with that same entrance too. As she turned around to make her way out of, however, she heard the sounds of hooves coming down the stairs. Finally, her rival was arriving. She would be in awe of Trixie’s return, dumbounded even. Trixie turned around to find herself…politely welcomed like any old pony in the library. Was it possible that Twilight had forgotten all about Trixie? Maybe she just needed a quick reminder of her name and everything would be fine. There was no way that Trixie would have faded from the purple-mare’s mind right?

”Really, after all this time that is all you have to say to THE GREAT AND POWERFUL TRIXIE!” Trixie replied as she stood up on her hooves with a cheer. Normally this is where her fireworks would be, but again she decided to not use them. Besides, it had been done out of a sort of sense of desperation, in hopes of jogging Twilight’s memory and getting more of a reaction out of her.

Landing back down on all four hooves with a clack, Trixie walked up to her with a slight look of annoyance on her face.

”For months Trixie has thought about the day Trixie would once again face you, wracking her mind on what to say to you, and…and…” Trixie said as soon as she got as close to Twilight as she could without basically squashing her. She stopped for a moment, eyes widened as she realized she was getting back into her old habits; this was supposed to be an apology after all. Backing up, Trixie sighed and looked down at the ground for a moment before looking back up at Twilight.

”And Trixie was wanting to say so…sorr…what I mean is…”

Grrrr, what couldn’t she just SAY IT! Even in third person she was unable to do so. Why did this just have to be so frustrating?!

I was face to face with The Great and Powerful Trixie herself. She seemed- scratch that - was extremely angry. Her eyes looked as if they caught fire. "I think we can work things out Trixie." I doubt she heard. My voice was squeaker than Fluttershy's. Trixie seemed to calm down quickly. Maybe she wasn't that bad? , probably a mood swing?

”And Trixie was wanting to say so…sorr…what I mean is…” I couldn't believe it. The Great And Powerful Trixie wants to apologize. I squeed in delight. "Wait you- pfft uumm- want to -hehe-- to apologize?" I couldn't hold my excitement any longer. I practically bounced onto Trixie. "This will be so fun! We'll have sleepovers, go to parties, share secrets! We'll be the best of friends." I put a big emphasis on friends. I couldn't believe it.

Trixie? That's the last pony I thought to turn good. Not that she was evil, but seriously! A new best friend is a big deal! I'm more joyful than Pinkie Pie in my situation.

Well, at least it seems Twilight doesn’t hate me… Trixie thought as her mangled mess of an apology seemed to get a positive reaction from Twilight. She had been concerned when Twilight had started giggling, but apparently it was giggles from excitement than anything else. Still, Trixie didn’t feel exactly comfortable with going straight from mortal enemies to having sleepovers and all that; after all, this was all still extremely new to her. With Twilight, in her excitement, getting almost practically on top of her, Trixie took a few steps back.

”Don’t get too excited Twilight Sparkle…” Trixie started off, ”I just came to say what I had to say. I’m not exactly looking into having slumber parties right now.”

It wasn’t as if she didn’t want to do those things; Trixie just wanted to perfect her ability to be a friend before getting too involved with it. Plus, considering her troubles in just saying sorry, Trixie doubted that she would be a very pleasant pony to be around at a party. Unless she was the center of attention for the party or could perform a show; then she would be fine. Outside of that situation, no, she probably wouldn’t be, and not having fun at a party seemed to be like a crime by the way ponies like Vinyl Scratch acted when spotting her…

”Still, I am going to be in town for a while, and I will use that time to try and learn about this whole ‘friend’ thing. If you are able to do it, then it should be no problem for the Great and Powerful Trixie,” Trixie replied, using her normal bravado to cover up her concerns about it. Still, she thought she had a point; if her rival Twilight Sparkle was able to make friends, then Trixie would be able to make friends. After all, no unicorn was more magical than Trixie, and that included the Element of Magic as far as Trixie was concerned.

Suddenly I realized how I was acting. Even Trixie noticed my childishness ways. What was I thinking! I can't just start with such a big opening. I stopped bouncing immediately. "Oh, sorry." I started to blush. "It's just great to have a new good friend." I gave my new ally a pat on the back.

”Still, I am going to be in town for a while, and I will use that time to try and learn about this whole ‘friend’ thing. If you are able to do it, then it should be no problem for the Great and Powerful Trixie,” Wait, I know what to do. Trixie didn't have any friends in Ponyville, at least not many.

"I have to introduce you to my friends!" I squealed. The bouncing started up again. "They're tons of ponies to meet! Pinkie,Rainbow- It will be so fun!" Once again, getting overly excited.

Did friendship always cause ponies to be so quick to call other ponies friends? Trixie was still doubted that she would call Twilight a friend anytime soon; had to start small with ‘acquaintance’ for now. Still, at least she wasn’t thrown out of Ponyville like she had feared would happen when she got here. Twilight’s open forelegs were making it kind of hard for Trixie to find reasons to be mad though, at least without dwelling on the Ursa Minor incident. But if she wanted to make progress, she would have to get over that.

As for the offer of meeting her friends, Trixie remembered them rather well enough. She doubted that they would be so welcoming as Twilight was, especially since she had treated them rather mean directly. Tying them up, spinning them around, making one of their mane’s green. Trixie couldn’t remember what their names were however, though the Rainbow sounded familiar; Pinkie wasn’t ringing a bell though.

”I don’t think that would be a good idea considering I beat…I mean I was so ‘mean’ to them the last time we met,” Trixie said, catching herself from saying she utterly defeated them in a contest of magic and skill. Probably not a good time to antagonize Twilight.

Trixie was making a good point. My friends kind of had grudge with her. She really offended them. What will they think? What will I say? Think Twilight, think! Wait a minute... These were my friends. They'd understand. They're always open to a new friend. "Don't worry Trixie, that was two years ago*. They won't be mad." I said "Trust me."

As much as Trixie wanted to trust Twilight, Trixie had found it was her experience that ponies could hold a grudge for a long time. At the very least, she doubted that her friends would be less forgiving than Twilight was. Twilight hadn’t been directly affected by her actions, but her friends got to experience them first hand. Trixie at least expected that unicorn friend of hers to be really upset; she seemed the kind of pony to overreact harshly about her mane being messed up. Still, part of friendship was that you were supposed to trust your friends, right? That was about all Trixie could do right now.

”Trixie doubts it, but they’re your friends so Trixie has no choice but to trust you on that matter.”

Well, that pretty much covered most of what Trixie had expected to deal with. Actually, she really thought that this was going to be a lot harder. With the conversation pretty much at an end, Trixie just stood there awkwardly for a moment before glancing backwards towards the door.

”Well then, unless there is anything else, Trixie needs to be getting back to her wagon. See you around town then?” Trixie asked, some slight hesitance highlighting her lack of confidence about the whole friendship thing.
