At any time there is only one pony assigned a of the ---- role. There can only be one Seargent Major of the Crystal Guard, Vice Captain of the Lunar Guard, or Captain of the Solar Guard. While each Princess has their own section of the Royal Guard to call upon and command, they all work under the same chain of command.
Lead by the Captain of the Guard, this Officer serves as the in-between for most occasions for the Princesses and the Guards. the Captains of the Solar, Lunar, and Crystal Guards control what takes place within thier own section, feeding down the information and commands within thoer own Corps and addressing the needs of their section of guards. They answer to thier individual Princess and the Captain of the Guard. Each Captain has their Own Vice-Captain which assist them in thier duties. Usually when they need to be in two places at the same time for the same job. Next are the Standard Bearers. These Officers are resposible for not only upholding the standards of their Corps, but also the Policing of Guards. They inspect the troops, look over paperwork, and help establish and enforce procedures. They may also be directly appointed by the Princess. Majors are the Highest Rank in-field Officers. They are established guards with plenty of experience. There are on average five per Guard. While they may be out in the field, the bulk of thier duty is Paperwork. Adjutants work alongside the Standard Bearers and help with Logistics and enforcing procedures. Harbingers, Lieutenants, and Exons are the grunt work of the Officers, with only experience as a defining difference.
The Enlisted do more of the In-field activities such as guarding and policing actions. Starting at the top the Sergeant Major of the ---- is in charge of the needs of the enlisted guards. They work directly with the Captains and Vice-Captains. Those who have obtained this rank have proven their worth over decades of Enlisted work and have not only recieved recognition from the Captains and Vice Captains, but also the Princess. Command Sergeants are heavily experienced in the field of Combat and keep the command structure of the fighting forces going as well as developing combat strategies with the Officers. Sergeant Majors work with Adjutants in thier Policing actions.The First Sergeants are the primary work horse for the Vice Captains. While Master Sergeants Command the largest groups of Guards of any single pony. Sergeant First Class, Staff Sergeants, and Sergeants work with their Master Sergeants as command ponies for individual Batallions. Corporals have sufficenit experience to have them training to become Sergeants. Specialist are traiend for specific duties to aid the Royal Guards as a whole. Guard First Class, Guards, and Guard Basics are the beginning elisted rank and generally are very basically trained and just moving into their Squads.
Officer Training Corps, or OTC, is the Battalion that is dedicated to training young ponies to take one the Officer Leadership roles. There are three schools in all; East Point Day Guard Training Post located on the Eastern Shore of Equestria, north of Fillydelphia, Night Guard Officer Candidate School located in the Caves of the Moon, and Quartz Field Training Station in the Crystal Empire. Each fo these schools teach basic command and battle strategies, weapon drills, and enhanced instruction of basic duties. An officer must be able to teach any duty they will assign to others.
