||| SPIKE |||
#Name; Spike
#Age Group ; Is only a Baby Dragon, but is considered by ponies to be around the age of a foal.
#Gender ; Male
#Species; Dragon
#Cutie Mark ; Dragon's don't have those, dummy.
#Occupation ; (Number One)Assistant to Twilight Sparkle and Ponyville's liaison to Princess Celestia
#Powers and Abilities ; Spike's draconic physiology is vastly different from that of the ponies he lives amongst. For one, Spike has fingers and hands. These are very useful for obvious reasons. Rather than skin and hair, Spike is covered in a hide of scales which make him incredibly durable. For evidence, look no further than the time he dived into a pool of molten lava and was only hurt because he belly flopped. Spike's digestive system is also amazingly durable. He's able to eat things that give normal ponies (and Pinkie Pie) food poisoning and actually enjoys it. He can even eat gem stones, which aren't usually considered edible last time I checked. Lastly, Spike also has a dragon's signature fire breath. While Spike's is nothing compared to the thatched roof cottage burninating hellstorm of an adult dragon, it's still fire. It burns things. There's also his special teleportation flame, which teleports what ever it engulfs to Princess Celestia's whereabouts. He can also receive replies from the Princess through a similar method.
Spike's penmanship is great and he apparently knows how to play the piano. The young Dragon's memory is also very good, being able to recite nearly his entire life story to Fluttershy upon first meeting her.
#Physique ; Spike's pretty small, he is still technically a baby, after all. He's only about the height of a foal, but his spines make him seem a bit taller. Even then, he's only up to the base of an average sized mare's neck. As for his build...Spike's pretty stocky. His limbs, especially his legs, are short and kinda stubby. He's also noticeably chubby, due to a mix of baby fat and his somewhat gluttonous nature. Dude likes to eat. He doesn't seem to actually weigh that much, though, as Twilight often carries him around on his back without any noticeable difficulty.And she's just an egghead!
#Mane and fur color and style ; Spike doesn't have fur or a mane...or hair at all, really. He's a reptile, after all. But he does have scales and spines. Spike's scales are a light, almost lavender shade of purple on most of his body and a light spring green color for his underbelly. The fins on the side of his head that cover his "ears" (which are really just holes) are a more lime green color. The spines that run from his tail up his back and to his head are a much darker shade of spring green. His spines also give the impression that Spike has a mohawk...but that's just how they grow.
#Eye color ; Green, with pointy, slit like pupils
#Other appearance details (optional) ; N/A
#A more thorough description (optional) ; N/A
#Personality ;
Despite the fact that he's spent most of his life with Twilight Sparkle, it's hard to imagine the two being much different. Spike is typically a carefree and fun-loving guy. Someponies would even go as far as to call him lazy...which Spike wouldn't deny. Spike loves to sleep in, relax and have fun with friends. His laid back nature lets him keep a cool head most of the time and he often wishes Twilight would follow his example and calm down for once.
That said, once Spike's gotten up and going, he's more than willing to do some work. He likes being helpful and having responsibilities almost as much as he likes being lazy. He's gotta defend his title as Number One Assistant, after all. If you come up to Spike and ask him for a favor, he'll more than likely say yes and get right to work.Especially if your name is Rarity.Spike's work ethic stems from his desire to be accepted by other ponies. He fears being abandoned or left alone more than anything else...and who'd abandon a friendly and helpful dragon?
Spike's something of a joker. His wit's sharp as a tack and he's not afraid to use it. When he sees a chance to make a joke, he goes for it with no regret. He's also very quick to make a smart or sarcastic comment when he sees the need for one. This sometimes makes it seem like Spike doesn't care, which isn't true. He cares plenty, he can just be rather blunt at times. And he can't really help that, he's just a kid after all; he doesn't understand everything. In fact, sometimes he's downright clueless.
Spike's got a bit of an ego on him. Now, he's nowhere near as bad as Trixie, it still shows up now and then. Though that's usually when nopony's around and he flexes in front of the mirror ("Looking REAL good.") Like most children, he's also got a big imagination on him. His ego and imagination tend to combine and lead him off on deluded daydreams he usually snaps out of before doing something potentially embarrassing.Like Kissing Applejack in front of everypony.
Spike's ego and sarcasm both serve to hide his true sensitive and insecure nature. He cares deeply about his group of friends, Twilight in particular, and would do anything to make sure they feel the same way about him or that they're safe. He's protective of them...even if he can't protect them from much. He wouldn't know what to do without them. Spike also doesn't really know what he is. He's definitely not a pony...but he sure doesn't act much like a dragon. Then again, he's spent his entire life amongst ponies and he doesn't exactly have that much experience with dragons. And the experience he does have isn't too pleasant. He realizes WHO he is is more important than what he is, though. Either way, the conflict between Spike's inherent nature as a dragon and his upbringing amongst ponies makes him sometimes feel like an outsider. Spike just wants to be accepted for who he is and doesn't care who or what does it.
Though he usually does a good job of suppressing it, Spike's dragon nature shines through now and then. He gets grumpy when anypony keeps him from getting sleep or wakes him up too early.Lookin' at you, Twilight!He's known to gorge himself on sweets and gemstones, often hoarding the later. Spike's not usually very greedy, though. He's learned to keep that part of his nature under control after his greed induced growth spurt and subsequent rampage. He actually much prefers being generous because sharing makes everyone happy...and gets him a little appreciation.
Recently, Spike has been creating, and is trying to uphold, his own set of ethics that he calls his Dragon's Code. The point of said code is to keep himself acting like a noble dragon (so, basically not like every other dragon he's met). The Code is still under construction and subject to change as Spike decide exactly how a noble dragon should act. Repay debts? Protect the innocent? Uphold the law? ....He's working on it.
Spike has an absolutely massive crush on Rarity. I'm hoping you already knew this. He kept it a "secret" for a while, but didn't do too good a job of it. He's since gone public about it and revealed it to a number of ponies, including Rarity herself. Rarity's about the only pony he's as devoted to or protective of as Twilight Sparkle, often going out of his way to help or impress her. He greatly appreciates the increased attention and affection she's given him since he revealed his secret...even if the nickname "Spikey-Wikey" is a bit embarrassing.
#History ;
Spike's life started like that of any other dragon; as an egg laid by a female dragon. However, that's about where any similarities between the life of a regular dragon and Spike's life end. Because Spike's egg somehow ended up in the possession of Princess Celestia. The Princess took care of the egg and kept it safe as she tried to figure out what to do with it. After much though and deliberation, the Princess ultimately decided the egg would be used for an entrance exam at her own school for gifted unicorns. And there the egg remained.
Enter Twilight Sparkle, the young filly with hopes of enrolling in the Princess' prestigious academy. The only thing that stood in the way of her dreams was the egg's purple spotted shell. But, try as she might, Twilight Sparkle could not make the egg hatch. Just as the little foal was about to call it quits, a burst of rainbow light through the sky startled Twilight and triggered an uncontrolled surge of magic from the unicorn. The egg hatched and out popped Spike. Twilight could not keep control over her power, resulting her to accidentally growing the newborn to a gigantic size, turn her family into plants and generally cause chaos. However, Princess Celestia intervened and the surge ended, returning everything to normal. Twilight Sparkle had earned both her cutie mark and her place in the academy (as Celestia's personal pupil, no less!)
Ah, but what became of Spike? Princess Celestia took the liberty of raising and caring for the hatchling Dragon. Even if Twilight was the one to hatch the egg, the filly couldn't be expected to raise a dragon. But, considering she was Celestia's personal student, she saw him frequently. Celestia also acted as a teacher to Spike, though his teachings were far more practical; reading, writing,piano, apparently... The Princess had plans for her pair of students. When she believed the two were both old enough, she officially appointed Spike as Twilight's Assistant and placed the Dragon under her care.
And so it was that Twilight Sparkle would continue her studies with the assistance of Spike. Things were pretty simple and straight forward from there...well, until the eve of one Summer Sun Celebration...What started off as a normal day for Spike turned into one of the most important days of his life and Equestrian history.
Spike was enjoying a day off and was about to deliver a present for Moondancer's birthday when Twilight barged in. She had apparently discovered a prophecy that foretold the return off Nightmare Moon from her thousand year imprisonment in the Moon. Twilight had Spike send the Princess a letter to warn her of the danger...a warning the Princess promptly dismissed. Before the two knew what was going on, they were already en route to the site of that year's Summer Sun Celebration: the small town of Ponyville. The Princess had appointed Twilight as Festival Supervisor and tasked her with making some friends.
There, the duo met quite the lively bunch of ponies: Applejack, the hard working farmer. Rainbow Dash, the hotheaded athlete. Fluttershy, the sweet but painfully shy animal lover. Pinkie Pie, the....Pinkie Pie. But none stood out as much to Spike as the elegant and gorgeous fashion designer known as Rarity. The young dragon was smitten at first sight.Of course, that day wasn't all fun and games and falling in love. Because Twilight was right. Nightmare Moon had returned. That's also about as much as Spike can remember about that day, because when Nightmare Moon appeared, he fainted. When he finally woke up, he was back at the Library and Twilight and the others were gone. The Day soon returned, and Twilight and Company along with it...and Princess Celestia as well! Congratulating Twilight, she now gave her student a new mission: studying the magic of friendship here in Ponyville. Spike, like any assistant worth his Salt, remained by Twilight's Side in Ponyville with no hesitation.
From there, things returned to...well, as close to normal as life in Ponyville could be. It was almost like some sort of incident was happening every week since Twilight Sparkle arrived. But with every incident, there was something to be learned about Friendship and Spike was there to report everything that had been learned to the Princess. That's not to say Spike just stood on the sidelines and watched, though. He got caught up in the action more than a few times. Like the time he led the rescue for when Rarity got captured by Diamond Dogs. Or the time he was accidentally kidnapped by buffallo. OR the time he ran away from home when he thought Twilight had replaced him with an Owl and ended up getting chased through the forest by an adult dragon. Life in Ponyville was almost a bit too exciting for the young dragon. Little did he know that more excitement was still to come.
It all started with the return of Discord, the Draconequus spirit of chaos. When all hope was lost and the Element of Harmony bearers were reduced to mockeries of their former selves, all it took was Princess Celestia returning the reports on friendship via Spike to return Twilight Sparkle to her normal self and turn the tides against Discord. But, next thing you know, Twilight went crazy when she thought she'd miss a Friendship Report to the Princess and went out to make her own problem! Things were just as nuts in Ponyville, but at least Spike could take solace in knowing his actions usually improved the situation, rather than worsening it.
...Until his Birthday, that is. His draconic nature arose, causing him to become incredibly greedy and start growing rapidly. Soon enough, an adult sized Spike was rampaging through Ponyville, stealing everything and anything he could find. He even stole Rarity and proceeded the climb up the side of a mountain with her and his haul in tow. When Rarity began ranting on how his rampage ruined her cape, the gigantic Spike's attention was caught by the cape's clasp: a fire ruby he had given to Rarity several day prior. Spike snapped out of his greed and reverted to his usual size. And then gravity intervened, sending the two plummeting to what would surely be their deaths. Spike, knowing this was his last chance to admit his feelings, tried to tell Rarity about his crush on her. But she put a hoof to his mouth, stopping him. She knew. At the last minute, the two were saved by Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy, leaving Spike to reflect on just what he'd done. The denizens of Ponyville were quick to understand and forgive him for actions, but Spike still felt guilty about the whole thing. He was back to his normal self before too long, though.
Sometime later, Spike's identity issues came to a head during the Great Dragon Migration. After being unable to learn anything about Dragons from the library, he decided to go off and join the Dragon Migration himself. After a long journey, Spike made it to the volcanic crater the dragons had migrated to, not knowing Rainbow Dash, Twilight Sparkle and Rarity had followed him the whole time. While initially put off by the brutishness of the teenage dragons, Spike soon found himself fitting in with them, much to the disguised ponies' dismay. However, Spike could not accept them forcing him to smash open a phoenix egg. Ultimately, Spike rejected the dragons and ran away with his pony frie-his pony family, phoenix egg in tow. Back in Ponyville, Spike wrote to Celestia to tell her of what he'd learned during his journey of self-discovery. As he wrote, the egg he'd saved hatched into a phoenix chick. Deciding to keep the baby bird, Spike gave it the name Peewee.
After a Royal Wedding (and one awesome bachelor party, thank you very much!) snatched from the jaws of disaster in the form of a changeling invasion, Spike's life certainly hasn't calmed down any. But he doesn't mind, he's still got his friends and his family. He belongs, and that's good enough for him.The Roleplayer's Corner

With a yawn, Spike awoke in his small basket bed by Twilight Sparkle's normal bed. The unicorn had often asked him if he actually liked sleeping on the floor like that. Truth be told, he actually preferred sleeping that way, as close to the ground as possible. It was a dragon thing, they both assumed. That being said, Spike sure wouldn't say no to sleeping in a big fluffy bed if given the chance.
"Ahhh.....Good Morning, Twilight," the young dragon said, stretching out and climbing out of bed. There was no response.
"Twilight?" he asked again, looking around the room. Twilight wasn't in her bed, or in the room at all. It was just Spike and Peewee, the baby bird still asleep in his cage.
"Huh. I wonder what she's up to," he said, heading downstairs. Maybe she was already up and working. She'd done that before, but Spike could usually tell when her workload would big enough to require waking up early.
Spike made it to the first floor of the library. Still no Twilight. It was just him and Owlowiscious perched on a coat rack by the window. The owl had a scroll in his beak, and upon seeing Spike, flew over to the dragon and dropped it infront of him.
"I guess this is for me, then," Spike said, picking up the scroll and unfolding it.
"Hoo?" Owlowiscious hooted at Spike before flying back to his perch.
"Don't even start with that, bird brain."
"Dear Spike," the letter read.
"I had some business to attend to today around Ponyville and decided to get an early start. I've got it taken care of, but I forgot to leave you a note, so I just had Owlowiscious deliver one to you. Looks like you've got a day off! Enjoy it.
With Love,
Twilight Sparkle
PS: Don't worry, I'm not overworking myself like you always say I do."
As he finished reading it, Spike smiled and rolled the scroll back up. A day off? Today was gonna be great! Spike set the rolled up scroll on a nearby table before heading out the door into Ponyville. Spike took a deep breath of fresh air and gave a happy sigh. The little dragon had no idea what he'd do today, but he figured he'd bump into somepony and find something enjoyable to do today. He was NOT gonna waste this day off.
