||| SHINING ARMOR |||
#Name; Shining Armor.
#Age Group ; Twenties.
#Gender ; Male.
#Species; Unicorn.
#Cutie Mark ; A shield with a sparkle inside of it resembling Twilight's, along with three sparkles above it.
#Occupation ; Captain of the Royal Canterlot Guard,Prince of the Crystal Kingdom
#Powers and Abilities ; Shining Armor is a unicorn pony, which means that he has access to general-purpose (i.e. levitation) and specialized magic. He is also Twilight Sparkle's brother, and magical talent seems to run very strong and very deep in that family - he appears to be as powerful as Twilight herself, though instead of being a Jack of all Trades like she is, his magic is probably geared strongly towards battle, specifically defensive (though given his knight archetype odds are decent that he could put up a very strong offense if given a reason). Twilight Sparkle is one of, or perhaps the, most powerful unicorns in Equestria, and that really does say something about Shining Armor. In-canon he's been proven able to erect a barrier spell that covers an entire city, and maintain it presumably by himself for anywhere between days and months while what is effectively a pony-flavored succubus steals his energy and will and turns him into a brainwashed zombie. Later, fueled by the power of love, he is able to recast this spell in an expanding form with enough force to literally toss these pony-flavored succubi apparently completely out of Equestria, without affecting any native citizens.
#Physique ; It's fair to say that, being the Captain of the Royal Guard, Shining Armor would have to be a tough pony physically. While not as strong as say, AJ, Shining Armor could definitely hold his own if it came down to a hoof fight.
#Mane and fur color and style ; Shining Armor's mane is a moderate sapphire blue coloring, with moderate cerulean and dark phthato blue streaks. His mane is long enough that it comes down to his neck, and it's kept in a very clean, smooth state given his position. His coat is also turquoisish white in color.
#Eye color ; Moderate cerulean.
#Personality ;
Shining Armor isn't just this pony's name, but is also his personality - he is a white knight, a knight in shining armor. Shining Armor defends those weaker than himself and enjoys doing so, and takes others under his blanket of protection easily. Obviously he is most invested in defending those he is closest to, especially his fiancee and his little sister - and he will, as proven, defend them from anything he can. He does not easily doubt people or ponies once they have earned his trust, perhaps because it's difficult to do so - usually he appears to hold others at arm's length. He is polite and charming, but does not become very close to very many ponies. This does not mean he won't still defend them with everything he has, because he will. If the strong are preying on the weak and he sees it, he will intercede if at all possible. He probably holds himself responsible for any situation he could have interceded in but didn't.
Shining Armor is also very honorable, and very loyal - to ponies, to ideals, to vows that he has made. All of this makes him extremely responsible, and also might add part to a commanding, near-untouchable presence he can exude, which helps make him an excellent leader. The very firm trust he places in people who have earned it can almost make him seem naive at times, but the truth of the matter is that Shining Armor is smart, and is usually somewhat cautious. He does not love books as his sister does, but is almost certainly still quick in picking up anything he thinks he needs to know - after all, he seems to have become Captain of the Royal Guard at a very young age.
He can be very singleminded in his purpose. He is strong both of personality and physically (and magically too, but that is perhaps neither here nor there), and brave, but seems... usually realistic about what he can and cannot do. He is athletic as well - he does sort of fit into the jock stereotype, and if he was a human and in high school would probably end up captain of the football team. He is courteous and chivalrous, but not more uptight than he needs to be. He likes to have fun, to laugh and joke, show affection, and be with those he loves. As a result he almost oozes charisma. This is aided by the fact that he is always almost hopelessly sincere. It all combines to means he can be very affable in person, unless you give him some reason not to be.
Overall, Shining Armor is a stallion who wants everypony happy, and who is willing to do what he can to make sure that happens. He's good at keeping ponies safe and secure, and has a natural air of command and leadership - but he's nice about it, and generally doesn't order others around more than he feels he needs to. He is casual enough to be comfortable to be around, but really isn't laid back.
#History ;
Before I start, I'd just like to add a disclaimer: Shining Armor has only appeared (and probably will only appear) in a grand total of four episodes, so a lot of his history is either vague or guesswork. I will do my best to fit all the pieces together, but there aren't many I have to work with, so a lot of the timeline will be very sketchy.
Shining Armor was born in the magical land of Equestria, which is a fantastic realm almost entirely populated by various flavors of ponies - namely unicorns (of which he is one), pegasi, and earth ponies (with the occasional alicorn/winged unicorn thrown in for good measure). It was ruled by Princess Celestia, a wise and benevolent alicorn pony, who keeps things running smoothly by raising the sun in the morning and the moon at night. She was the sole ruler of the land, as she had been for the past almost 1000 years, ever since her sister and fellow alicorn princess, Luna, had transformed into the evil Nightmare Moon and been banished to the moon.
Very little is known about his early life - he is the oldest child in the family, and was born in Canterlot, Equestria's capitol city and Celestia's home. Some time after this, but when he was somewhere in the human equivalent of 10-13, his presumably first sibling was born - a sister, Twilight Sparkle.
Twilight and Shining were much closer than siblings usually are - Twilight labeled Shining her 'B.B.B.F.F.' (Big Brother Best Friend Forever) and, according to her, they never fought. Twilight was a very introverted filly when she was young, preferring books to people, and Shining Armor was her only friend. During this period Shining Armor appears to have pretty much raised Twilight, to already be stalwart and responsible, and his pet ambition seems to have been being a guard. During this time Twilight's favorite foalsitter was Princess Mi Amore Cadenza, an alicorn pony who could inspire love in ponies all around her. Word of God says that this is when Shining Armor and her met, and they ended up good friends, seeing as how later they get married and all.
When Twilight was still young she was accepted by Princess Celestia into her magic school for gifted unicorns, as the Princess's personal student - she saw less of Shining Armor after that happened, though they remained very close. Eventually Shining Armor became the Captain of the Royal Guard in Canterlot, and Twilight moved to Ponyville to study the magic of friendship by mandate of Celestia. Once again, the move meant that they saw less of each other - and, although they clearly remained close, Shining Armor was by now separated enough from her life that none of Twilight's new friends had even heard of him... until a wedding announcement came.
SOME... TIME AFTER TWILIGHT LEFT CANTERLOT Shining Armor had started dating Princess Cadance, that alicorn I mentioned who is a (distant) niece of Celestia's who is a princess for we're-really-not-sure-why-except-she's-an-alicorn. The two of them ended up very, very much in love, and Shining Armor (or possibly Princess Cadance we really don't know here) proposed, and was accepted. Unfortunately some time around Shining Armor and Cadance becoming serious and then engaged, a threat was made against Canterlot. Shining Armor, captain of the guard, was called upon to cast a magical barrier around the entire freakin' city which only he could maintain, which meant that he could not travel to Ponyville to tell Twilight that he was engaged. Or, apparently, send a letter. Twilight therefore got told when she received a wedding invitation from Princess Celestia.
Twilight went to Canterlot and after Shining explained to her why he COULDN'T come visit her to deliver the news in person and she'd calmed down in response, started noticing that all was not well in the state of Denmark. Cadance, who Twilight had known when she lived in Canterlot, had had a personality transplant, and appeared to be bewitching her brother. At the wedding rehearsal the next day, she'd stormed in and accused Cadance of being evil. Shining Armor had been outraged and felt betrayed. He had defended and explained the actions of his bride, and then told Twilight she was no longer welcome at his wedding. Unfortunately for Shining, Twilight had been right - the real Cadance had been kidnapped and replaced by a changeling (a succubus-like race who transform into copies of ponies, and who then feed on the love of those dear to their victim, weakening them in the process). After a few events and utilizing the power of love, Chrysalis is sent packing and everyone lives happily ever after... for now.The Roleplayer's Corner

Princess Celestia's word was undoubted, sacrosanct. She was a ruler who had risen almost to the level of a goddess in the eyes of her people, but a gentle goddess, one who walked among her subjects and heard their sorrows and worries. She was a divine being who graced Equestria with her presence. She was not wrong. But, as Shining Armor wandered through the magnificent royal gardens that so many ponies worked so long and hard to maintain, he was tempted to wonder if she might not be mistaken.
He sighed, and dug a tiny furrow of earth with the tip of his hoof. As he pawed lightly at the ground he willed such thoughts away. It was doubtless just because he was so tired - normally he would never think to question the Princess's word. If she said there was a threat against Canterlot and that the capitol city needed protection, than that was the truth of the matter. The barrier spell, however, was draining him far more than he'd expected it to. He forced a smile as he thought of his arrogance in assuming it would be easy for him, the expression flickering across his features before fading again. His special talent might be the protection of others, but everypony still had their limits. Even, it seemed, him, and even in the one area he never thought he would find trouble.
At least he was able to maintain the spell, and if it meant the safety of the ponies he had sworn to protect, he could put up with the exhaustion and headaches that came with the spell. His sweet Cadance helped as much as she could, and had taken over overseeing all preparations for the wedding. It made him love her more than ever, and he smiled as he thought of her. This time the expression was not forced, but lingered until a blinding lance of pain shot through his head. The smile transformed into a wince as his vision went out of focus, before he forced the wave of pain and nausea back in a way that was becoming entirely too practiced. He shook his head, forcing himself to focus.
He had his orders and his duty. He wished that he could help Cadance in the preparations for their wedding (now so soon!) but he had other duties that he had sworn to, and she understood that as well as he did. As long as a threat to Canterlot remained.... The pain that had cut through all his musings was, at least, good for one thing: it had cleared his head, and reminded him of his original purpose for walking like this. Shining Armor lifted his feet and began to trot, inspecting the ranks of guards and the state of his barrier spell.
