The shop was small and a bit out of the way; it wasn't as well decorated as Carousel Boutique, didn't have the sugary sweet charm of Sugarcube Corner or the practical applications of Golden Oaks Library. It was no wonder why it wasn't the most frequented or famous of the shops that dotted the marketplace; but, really, that suited its owner perfectly fine.
Coffee Swirl was something of an oddball by pony standards. While, true to his name, he specialized in making a certain type of drink, he wasn't an earth pony like so many expected upon hearing his name; instead, he was a rather unimpressive looking pegasus. He lacked the slim, athletic build of a flier like Rainbow Dash; the bulk of one of the royal guard; he didn't even have the general cuteness of somepony like Fluttershy. He was just... bland; even his coat color, a dark sort of rust brown, didn't speak to him being all that interesting. About the only thing that gave him any sort of 'stand outishness' where his white and redish-brown striped mane and tail, and his green eyes framed by equally green glasses.
Still, as with his shop being not exactly famous, he was glad for his uninteresting appearance; it meant that he wasn't likely to be the target of unwanted attention. He had spent so long learning how to be good at his special talent that he had neglected to learn how to adequately socialize; meaning that he often found himself without a clue what to do when placed in a large crowd.
His coffeehouse, with it's slightly tinted lights to simulate the light of morning and fair number of patrons, he could handle that; but being the center of attention in the middle of an openly public place? Just the thought of it made him shiver as he took a sip of his own coffee; he simply couldn't go more than a few hours without drinking some of the stuff and willingly admitted that he was an addict, but he saw no reason to stop. It helped keep him on his hooves the whole day and kept him from getting bitter and lethargic over the little things.
And, even if he didn't get a flood of costumers like some places did, it was always a good idea for a shop own to keep abreast of what happened in his shop.
