||| SHINING ARMOR |||
#Name; Prince Shining Armor
#Age Group ; Adult
#Gender ; Male
#Species; Unicorn
#Cutie Mark ; Here
#Occupation ; Captain of the Royal Guard, prince through marriage
#Powers and Abilities ; Shining Armor has powerful defensive magic. He was capable of encasing all of Canterlot in a barrier for an extended amount of time. Even as the strength of the barrier began to wane, it was still sufficiently powerful enough to keep an army of changelings at bay. He was able to use the same spell to expel the changelings out of Canterlot, showing that his ability with barriers allows him to be selective about what is repulsed by the energy. He is also able to perform the spells that are common to most unicorns, such as levitation, though at a higher level than most.
#Physique ; As far as unicorns go, Shining Armor is very sturdy physically. While there are stronger Earth Ponies, he could give many athletic ponies a good challenge in a tractor pull contest.
#Mane and fur color and style ; His mane has three tones, a moderate sapphire blue,
moderate cerulean and dark phthalo blue. His fur color is white tinted with turquoise.
#Eye color ; Moderate cerulean.
#Personality ;
Shining Armor is a pony that knows what he wants and doesn’t spend a lot of time doubting his desires. This doesn’t mean that he never doubts himself, but that he rarely doubts the fruitfulness of his goals. As a foal, he was practically single minded in his pursuit of a commission as a royal guard and as a young guard, his pursuit of the position of captain. But perhaps even more importantly, it was this trait that also made him a steadfast friend to his little sister, Twilight Sparkle. He knew he wanted to be a positive influence and to not be one of those jerky older siblings that ponies preferred to stay away from. His determination is also why he never doubted his feelings toward Princess Cadence, despite having briefly doubted his ability to be a proper suitor for her.
Additionally, Shining Armor has worked hard his entire life to embody the old ideals of knighthood. At the forefront of this is a deep desire to be a force for good. Except in the most compromising of circumstances, he always tries to do whatever the right thing is, regardless of how much effort it might be for him. This tends to make him come off as a goody goody, but he fails to see where the actual insult lies in that phrase. Between these two traits, he is almost tirelessly devoted to protecting all of the ponies of Canterlot through his power as the Captain of the Guard.
Shining Armor tends to expect more from himself than he does from other ponies. While he would take an extended shift of guard duty, he wouldn’t ask that any of the other guards to do so unless it was absolutely necessary that they did. Even recreationally, he’d rather shoulder the blame of a loss than pass the buck onto a teammate, but in victory he makes sure everypony feels like they contributed and would rather lose than win by being a ball hog.
The stallion has complete faith and a lot of admiration for his new bride, Princess Cadence. Ever since they became a steady part of each other’s lives, Shining Armor has felt like his life just runs much more smoothly. And while he always believed in his little sister, he has developed a further layer of respect for her after seeing how she handled herself during the changeling invasion (what he can remember of it, that is).
#History ;
As a young colt growing up in Canterlot, Shining Armor was immediately stricken with the goal of becoming a member of the royal guard and he spent a good deal of his free time either watching them work or telling other ponies about what he had seen last time he had watched them. His pass time would occasionally get him into trouble when he loitered too close or even followed them into their barracks, but since he was young, there weren’t any major repercussions. To him, being reprimanded by the royal guard was actually pretty cool; it was like a front row seat to watching them do their job.
While he was still very young, his mother became pregnant again. Shining Armor was so excited about being an older brother that he began to take some time off from watching and mimicking the guards to observe older brothers so that he could be a good one of those, too. What he found was often very good, but occasionally he would find siblings who didn’t get along. He did not want that to happen to him. The colt who wanted to be a royal guard couldn’t royally fail when it came to the first pony he was honor bound to protect.
When Twilight Sparkle was born, Shining Armor would stare down anyone who wanted to hold her that wasn’t one of his parents. He wouldn’t glare, he would just watch them to make sure that they weren’t too rough with her and that they didn’t make her cry. He was sadly ignorant of the fact that babies occasionally cried for reasons independent of who was holding them and more than a few ponies found themselves blacklisted before Twilight was old enough to handle herself.
While he couldn’t spend all of his time with her, Shining Armor made sure he was there for her as much as he could be while still working toward his dream of being a guard. In turn, he did what he could to motivate Twilight toward her goals. He was never ignorant of the fact that he was her closest friend, but he didn’t try to pressure her to make other friends, either.
It was through Twilight that Shining Armor was able to meet Cadence. Shining Armor was already old enough to be interested in mares, but Cadence was the first mare that he felt strongly enough about to want to make a move. The problem was, she was a princess and he wasn’t nobility. Still, he was able to see her quite a lot and the three of them spent a good deal of time together. This period made it easier to continue seeing each other after Twilight didn’t need supervision and eventually moved to Ponyville.
Shining Armor originally had a tough time with Twilight leaving. While she had an entirely new atmosphere to adjust to, he had the same atmosphere, just no Twilight. At the time, he had already become a royal guard, which helped in the sense that he had something else to focus on other than his sister’s absence. But, it was her absence that eventually allowed him to become even closer to Cadence. Shortly after he became the Captain of the Guard, he proposed and her acceptance made him happier than he believed he could be.
It was around that time that Canterlot was threatened and had to go into high alert. The danger was extreme enough that the only surefire way of keeping everyone safe was to erect a barrier around the city. The duty fell to Shining Armor, preventing him from giving the news of his engagement to his sister. For all of the days leading up to the wedding, Shining Armor maintained the barrier. Unbeknownst to him, his bride-to-be had been captured and replaced by Queen Chrysalis, the queen of the changelings. The queen used her magic to bring Shining Armor under her control.
The spell had already began to take effect when Shining Armor reunited with his sister and met the other embodiments of the Elements of Harmony. He did his best to explain his duty to his sister and she seemed to forgive him. However, when Twilight began making accusations about Cadence’s actions, Shining Armor was too fatigued to handle it, eventually making her step down as his best mare.
Unknown to Shining Armor, Twilight Sparkle was imprisoned by the fake Cadence in the same crystal cave that the true Cadence had been trapped within. The pair escaped just in time to stop the wedding's completion, though not in time to stop Shining Armor's barrier from falling and the changeling invasion to begin. Cadence was able to free Shining Armor from the changeling's control, however he was initially too weak to reignite his spell. Using her own magic, Cadence was able to lend her power to Shining Armor and the pair used their combined magic to expel the changelings.
After this, a new wedding was constructed and the bethroved were finally able to wed and go on their honeymoon.The Roleplayer's Corner

#How did you find us? ; I was here already. Recently, I woke up in the middle of the night thinking, "I need to be Shining Armor."
#Sample RP ;
Shining Armor walked along the road slowly, making his way back to the castle. Other ponies would look at him as he moved, but his own eyes were caged forward, looking ahead as his peripheral vision told him everything he needed to know. He didn’t have to look directly at them to know what he would see. Some would take short glances, as if they expected harsh words if they were caught staring. Or perhaps they simply had been raised to believe staring was impolite. Others didn’t have either problem inhibiting them. Their looks were more akin to somepony trying to take in a detailed photograph that was inexplicably moving away from them.
Of course, not all ponies fell into those categories. This was Canterlot and plenty of ponies were either acquainted with him or had seen him too many times for there to be any novelty. In a way, those were his favorite. He was used to being stared at by strangers, but that didn’t make him comfortable with it. Still, not too long ago he had been a young colt, watching whichever guard he could find so resolutely that it felt like his eyes would reattach to them. If for no other reason, than for that colt with a dream, he could never do anything to spurn their attention.
While he didn’t return their gazes today, he wondered what important business they imagined he was up to. An important message for the Queen or a new mandate for his guards or any number of possibilities could be candidates for speculation. But the truth was, his shift was ending as the sun began to make way for the moon. All he was headed for was home…. After a brief visit to his desk to jot down a few notes.
He returned the salutes of the exterior guards as he made his way inside, his posture relaxing only slightly as he exited the view of the public. He could only truly relax when he was in private and often only when he was alone or with Cadence. Shining Armor took that burden gladly, but he imagined most ponies were ready for a break after a long day. There was no shame in patiently waiting to once again be with beloved. And any stallion who thought otherwise had clearly picked the wrong mare. For Shining Armor, he wouldn’t be able to write his final piece of continuity on today’s activities fast enough.
