Okay, as you all know I have not been the most up to date when it comes to dealing with the Spotlights and the Foal Free Press. Part of that has been things getting busy, part of it some of my natural procrastination, but some of it has also been what seems a lack of interest in them. The original intent of the Foal Free Press was for you all to buy spaces to show off your threads, to put wanted ads up for characters, and fun gossip; no one ever buys stuff. Spotlight voting has been a little better, but is still only a small portion of the site voting. Often I have had to ask people to vote or buy things, and rarely is there enough.
So here are some of the options we can have:
1) Simply get one or both of them, or reduce the number of spotlights. 2) Appoint someone to be responsible only for one or the other 3) Replace them with something else entirely that has a similar purpose.
What are all of your thoughts on the matter? Note that I will still probably at least try and keep stuff like "Member Interviews" in some form or another.
I don't think we need both the FFP and the Spotlights, but it would be cool to keep one of the other. My favorite aspect of this has been the interviews, though, so I'd think you can almost just have a thread where anyone can tag anyone with a few "anonymous" interview questions (of an appropriate rating) and that player/those players should respond to the questions presented (Unless they'd rather keep such things a mystery, then they could put "decline to comment). That's all it would take to please me. I'm not overly attached to the other aspects.
I like both the spotlights and the Foal Free Press (although I didn't know it's purpose was to drum up interest in threads, I thought it was just an amusing little something) but I don't like it that they're almost never up on time (even if that does mean I've been on the spotlights in one place or another for 6 months XD) I'd say keep the spotlights and FFP, but assign someone reliable to manage them.
Heck, I volunteer myself for one or the other or both, if you need someone. I'm not the most reliable in the world, but if you want me, I'll help :3
I'd say put two people in charge of both of them. Two active volunteers for both the FFP and the Spotlights. This way, you have a buffer zone if one person is lax. I also like FS's idea of doing interviews in a more open fashion. It lightens the load and makes it so that just one person isn't coming up with all of the questions, and we can get some more varied responses from each of the individual people.
Also: I'd like to throw in an option to interview characters as well as players, in an OOC/IC hybrid kind of way. I think it'd be fairly entertaining watching Rumble getting grilled about....
Alright, there seems to be some agreement on having someone else who's job is dedicated to dealing with spotlights XD.
I was thinking about it, and just going off of these it seems the most popular part of them was the interviews, right? What we could do, and this is how another site I was on did Spotlights, was that every month a random character gets chosen for the spotlight. They get a thread with an image, a short description of the character, and we can probably institute interviews in them as well, both IC and OOC. Then we can probably leave the threads open for anyone else who wants to ask them questions.
The Fun Has Been Doubled! is a My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic moderate-to-advanced forum roleplay. Set after the events of the fifth season, we currently have no overarching plot.
