It was a lazy Saturday morning, just the way Compass liked it. His sisters were off racing one another and probably some other pegasi, their father was most likely spending the day with their mother- leaving Compass with the day to himself. He didn't have much planned, save for practicing spells from the book Twilight Sparkle had lent him. Which was exactly what he was doing, in the middle of a secluded part of Whitetail Woods. He had gotten the hang of each of the spells that were in the book- the ghost-shadow spell that he first tested out in the library, by the silencing spell Twilight Sparkle recommended, among others- including a spell meant for self defense- the same kinda spell that unicorns would use in a fight, which he used his ghostly duplicates as target practice.
The colt was breathing heavily, albeit silently due to the spell he cast earlier, as if having ran at full sprint for a long time. As fun as casting spells was, it was very exhausting as he put his glass back on, sitting down under one of the trees and holding the book close. The spell wore off just as he was finished catching his breath, which was in the form of a deep breath as Compass stared up at the leaves blocking the sky. He had chosen this spot since it was the least likely place anypony would find him on a lazy day such as this- the perfect spot to practice without interruption. It was while he felt that he was alone that he was comfortable going all out while learning the spells from the book- his tenacity was almost uncharacteristic if somepony who knew him saw him. A somewhat single-minded determination, not letting the first few failures get in his way- it was as if Compass was a completely different pony out here on his own.
