#Personality ;
Melanite is an odd sort for a guard. She’s always laid back and happy, and won’t shy away from meeting new ponies and making friends. Her commanding officers aren’t sure what to think of this, because despite her not following protocol most of the time, she still gets her job done, and keeps the civilians happy.
On the other side of the coin, if there’s some serious crime being committed, Melanite will buckle down, and let her serious side show. This side of her is just as blunt, but much more serious than her happy-go-lucky personality.
No matter which side of her you’re talking to, she always enjoys music. From an early age, Music helped calm her down and helped her think. It didn’t matter the type of music, Melanite could enjoy it. Spending a lot of time in the clubs, she grew an almost obsessive love of the music of DJ-PON3, and owns all of her albums. Something that only her closest friends know, and tease her about.
Melanite considers everyone she talks to a friend, unless they mess up and lose her trust. But her few close friends, who helped her along in her life, she’s kept near and dear to her heart. One friend in particular, Midnight, was like Melanites idol, and she would follow everything the friend would ask her to do. This eventually led to Melanite learning to play Bass in the small, Bat Pony band her friends threw together.
Melanite is okay with physical closeness, such as hugs, or bumps. But when ponies tackle and/or jump on her, even playfully, she flips out. This stems from the attack outside of the club that caused her to join the guard. This /anger/ also transfers over to ponies taking her sunglasses, which were given to her by her old friend Midnight before her incident...
#History ;
Melanite was born as the youngest sibling, with only one brother, who was a Unicorn. Her mother was a Bat Pony that worked as a bartender at a club, and her father was a Unicorn Businessman. The two told stories of how they met after her father had a long day at work and was dragged out by friends to help him unwind.
When Melanite was still pretty young, her father lost his job, and became rather depressed, and spent a lot of time at home. Mel didn’t mind this, because it meant spending more time with her father. At least, that’s what she thought… Eventually, her father stopped spending so much time at home, until ultimately disappearing with her brother one day while her and her mother slept.
This weighed heavily on Melanite, figuring that her father and brother left them behind because they were Bat Ponies. Not being able to leave the young pony at home, her mother started bringing her to the club she worked at, having her help out. Melanite didn’t mind spending time with her mother, or around the music.
Once her mother passed away, Melanite inherited the club, and owns it to this day. Even on days she wasn’t working, most of her time was spent at the club. One night, during a live stage event, a punk rock band of Bat Ponies, their lead singer Midnight started. When asked about musical talent, Melanite admitted to having none, but Midnight didn’t believe that, and started teaching her a few things, which Melanite picked up unnaturally quickly.
Seeing that Melanites habit of jumping from club to club every night was taking its toll on her, Midnight offered to let Melanite join her band, as their bassist. Elated, Melanite accepted, and her life started to turn around for the better. Generally happier, Melanite started spending her time off with Midnight and Silhouette, and grew a close bond with the both of them.
One night, she hear rumors of a guard caravan getting attacked. Knowing that Silhouette was supposed to be on this kind of mission, she rushed to find her friend, who was thankfully alright… But she also heard of Midnights passing, and was distraught.
She fell back into her old habits of spending all of her free time in the clubs, wasting her life away, until one night as she was leaving, a unicorn jumped her. She tried to fight back, but the unicorn was all around stronger, and ended up taking the bits she had with her, and which happened to be all the bits she had to her name.
She hid in her apartment for a few days, not leaving for fear of a repeat of that night. Staring at a picture of her with Midnight and Silhouette, she started thinking. She picked up her old Bass, and started strumming a few notes, and came to a decision… She needed Silhouette back… And the best way to do that was to join the guard to be with her.
It was a long year of training, but Melanite vastly improved. She became more confident, and maybe a little more professional. Her superior was somewhat worried about her when, during a hoof-to-hoof exercise, her opponent had her pinned, and Melanite snapped, busting the pony’s jaw…
After hearing about Silhouettes demotion and transfer to Ponyville, she requested to be given the same assignment. It took quite a lot of convincing, but eventually her CO allowed her to take up position in ponyville, alongside Silhouette, on the condition she returned with a bit more discipline than she had now.
After a year or so, finally reunited with her friend, Silhouette got another transfer order, which left Melanite alone once again. Instead of begging for a transfer to follow her friend, Melanite realized it was time to stand on her own two hooves again. Time to shed the metal cocoon that felt unnatural, and return to being herself. She'd still write her friend, but wouldn't join her.
Melanite returned to her CO to tender her resignation, returning the Armor, and returning to a peaceful life running 'Zephyrs'... Albeit with a little more security outside.The Roleplayer's Corner

“Next Cadet. Melanite.”
Melanite stepped forward at the mention of her name, and crouched low on the line drawn in the dirt. She had watched four other cadets make this obstacle course. She could make it too. A quick swing over the mud pit. Crawling under the wires. Climb the wall. Walk the tightrope and rappel down the other side. Quick and easy, right?
One problem… The cadets had their wings bound. The whistle blew, and Melanite took off at full gallop, lunging and grabbing the rope, swinging across the mud pit. As she landed on the other side, she fell short, her back hooves falling into the mud, and she had to struggle her way out, costing precious time.
She dove, sliding under the first bit of a wire, a few strands of her hair getting tangled, but she pushed through, making up for lost time. Next was the wall. Twenty feet straight up. She grabbed the rope and set herself, pulling herself up. Near the top, she slipped, her rear hoof catching in the rope, and her head hitting the wall. She shook the dazed feeling off, and righted herself, continuing up the rope.
She crossed the tightrope and rappelled down the other side quickly, running back to the finish line for her time.
“Ten Minutes, Seventeen seconds.” The officer said with a sigh.
“WHAT? How is that possible? That was faster than that and you know it!” Melanite shouted
“You took a full minute getting out of that mud. It took you one minute to get up the wall the first time, and you hung there for four. Any questions?” The Officer asked, his voice sharp.
“...Can I try again?” Melanite asked, receiving a harsh glare. “Sorry… ‘Permission to try again, Sir.”
“Denied. Get washed up and get to the Mess Hall. We’ll see about you trying again tomorrow.”
