#Personality ;
Jasper is a very concrete pony. He does not have a high appreciation for games that are largely based upon the imagination or stories that are too fantastical. He'd rather be able to deal in actual facts. He appreciates riddles and brain teasers, but not playing pretend. He finds art difficult to grasp other than being able to identify how closely it resembles the subject it's ostensibly based upon.
Never one to ponder too much about the future or the past, Jasper is rarely daunted for long by such things. If he does something to warrant an apology, he gets it out of the way and puts the matter behind himself. He expects others to do the same, which can lead to issues. So long as everything is running smoothly in the present, Jasper feels more or less at ease. The major exception being Sombra, who had a substantial impact.
Jasper enjoys creating new systems and testing out the efficiency of those systems. As such, he is drawn to board games and specifically, to creating home rules based upon those games. His first step with any new game is to read the rule book several times and then begin to set things up. After a single play, he'll usually know what he would like to change. Sometimes it is because of a perceived imbalance, but occasionally just to see how things might be different.
Another quark that goes along with this is his habit of imposing strange rules upon himself when he gets bored. Usually he prefers not to tell other ponies that a new rule is in place, as the 'game' is whether or not he can act naturally within the new confines. But, he rarely sticks with a rule for long and will usually grow bored again quickly.
Just now reaching the age of crushes and hormonal gut checks, Jasper is most fascinated by free spirits. Being a lover of rules and regulations, Jasper sees such individuals as if they carry a special sort of magic. Eager to please any individual who becomes his fancy, he tends to just go along with any plan they may present him with.
#History ;
Jasper was born around the time Sombra had come in to power, so the entirety of his memories, if he had them, would be during the reign of the dark unicorn overlord. As with many other foals, he was taken from his family to be groomed for menial tasks. He never had a specific area of responsibility and was more freely used for whatever happened to be needed at the time. Not overwhelmingly altruistic, he simply did what was asked of him and allowed others to do what was asked of them. He made it through most days by focusing on the next small 'checkpoint' or the next “break.” In time, work became an ends unto itself.
Oddly, Jasper found himself enjoying some work just because it was nicer in comparison than others. It was easier to carry letters than it was to pull boxes or other heavy items. Generally, anything that kept him away from Sombra was better than anything that brought him within eyesight of the ruler. As there was no time for friendships or anything like that, Jasper, as did some others, developed a stronger understanding of body language to figure out which other foals were most in the mood for huddling.
Like many of the crystal ponies, Jasper did not realize what was happening as the alicorn sisters expelled Sombra from the Crystal Empire. Lights filled the sky and the tyrant was gone. Everything in between was simply surreal. Jasper had been transporting new work orders at the time. Even as his neck had been craned to watch, his legs had continued moving him toward his destination. Once it was all over, time apparently skipped. Everything was the same, yet instead of ruling them, Sombra lay on the outskirts of town, repelled only by the continuing efforts of a new batch of heroes.The Roleplayer's Corner

If he were to be honest with himself, Jasper was mad. He hated the way his mind could not properly remember everything that had happened in his life. He knew that little of it was worth remembering, but those were his memories. It was his right to decide what he should be able to do with them. Instead, he felt an emptiness and a haze that surrounded that emptiness. So as best he could, he was mad at that void and he was mad at that fog. What did he own if he didn't own himself and what was he if not his mind? It was a kind of anger that inexplicably attempted to muster up tears than action, an anger that refused to grant him strength. It was a fury that did not develop in such a way as to help him lift his head.
He walked slowly through the street, heading back to the house he had been staying at ever since he had been released. The owner was pretty nice and was actually making a lot of progress on becoming more uplifted than the dour masses. Jasper had been hoping this would rub off on him, but as far as he could tell, his own rut had not lifted meaningfully.
Opening the door, he looked up to see if his guardian was around. What he found was quite unexpected. The entire living room was decorated quite elaborately. The entire room was modeled in a style that he couldn't place. His mentor strode into the room. From the prospective of a pony outside of the Crystal Empire, his gait may have seen ordinary or even stiff. But for Jasper, he moved so smoothly that it was like he only responded to gravity by choice.
What is all of this?” Jasper asked, his confusion dulling his frustration considerably.
”Today, I'm going to teach you a game that the out of towners brought with them,” his mentor said confidently. ”I figured I should set the mood just right. Somepony's been murdered and together, we're gonna solve the crime. All we gotta do is follow the trail.”
