Ok!
to start, you'll need a seamless tile background. Here's one I'm using!
This is the code I'm using~
You WILL Have to highlight it to see it all.
And I know what you're thinking... That's great coffee, but how in the high holy buck do I make sense out of that mass of numbers, letters, words and symbols? Well, for the most part, you dont. the parts that matter are these:
This table style keeps the grey outline so common on proboards tables away. it's 0px (pixels) wide. but if you like the grey outline, or want to play with it or something, thats where it is.
Between the border (that doesn't exist, being 0px wide, and the actual content of the table is an area we can define. I make mine 10 px wide, because I use a seamless tile background. So I want a good amount of space to show it off. But not too much, or it will crowd my posting window.
within the table style tag, this defines that pretty pattern that's going around our posting box. The "picture frame" if you like. This is where that image goes. But if you dont have an image, and just want to use another color, you can use
Where the FFFFFF stands for a hex color code. Here's a link to a color picker with the hex values, if you need one!
Here's where we define the inside box background color, the "paper" that your post is going to be written on. You COULD use another background image with the other code, but keep in mind it needs to be as little distracting as possible.
More grey lines, 0px wide. what's important to note is the "padding", which is the margins around your post. the "edges" of the paper, so to speak. I recommend keeping at least 3px, you might want to do more.
This is, obviously, where you choose your font color. Please pick a nice one for your background that doesn't make people's eyes bleed :3
This would be where you write your post!
Now, you may be thinking 'geez, that looks like a lot of work to copy and paste into all my posts, I ain't doing that!' And, I admit, it's a little intimidating. but you can make it easier. If you go to edit your profile, under the settings tab, you'll find two very important options. A-like SO:
Enabling drafts makes Proboards save your work occasionally, so if something happens to it during posting, you can usually get some or all of it back. it's not exactly relevant to making pretty posts, but its darned useful.
Setting Posting Default to BBCode will make the little type box appear. When you've got your code all completed, you can copy and paste it into there, then whenever you have a reply window, the code will appear there automatically. All you have to do is type (or paste) your actual post right where "***POSTGOESHERE***" is.
