Fluttershy would walk through the door and see... Herself. And Rarity. Both laying in beds far below them, as if they were watching the events of the castle from beyond the room. The Rarity that was forced away stared down at her other self, eyes distant and seemingly ready to burst with tears. "Y...You're worried about me..." She said simply, her gaze shifting to the yellow Pegasus below.
She slumped, tears starting to drip onto the inivisble barrier the two are standing on. "I was... I was so caught up with my own goals, I never... I never thought of how it may be affecting you, Fluttershy... I'm... I'm sorry." She said, sniffling slightly.
Losing Sweetie Belle.
Worrying her Friends...
Raritys three biggest fears. She looked over to Fluttershy and gave her a firm hug, never wanting to let her go. How...How do I fix this? How do... how do I fix what I already did to the others? She asked. As if on que, the statues of the other four Elements floated around them. "I can't... I can't face them after something like this... I just..." She sobbed again, trying her hardest not to look at the statues.
Fluttershy listened carefully to what her friend had to say. On this adventure, she had seen and heard a lot of things. From the beginning, the idea of her friend warped by a dark power had changed the way she had to think about the situation. Princess Luna had been touched by darkness and it had taken a very long time for her to be released from it. From there, she had witnessed Rarity’s mind dragged through situations that no pony would want to face. At the end of it all, there was the two of them.
There was no trap, nothing to guard against. Before, she had seen scenarios of what could be. But this was only truth. The true feelings of the victim as she lamented the trouble she had caused by being a victim.
She hugged the other mare, ”We can stay here as long as you need to, I’m not going anywhere until you’re ready,” she said, her voice as comforting as she could muster. ”But um, you should know, I really don’t think they’ll blame you… or think any less of you. They just want to see you again. I… well… I meant what I was saying earlier… You make the whole world better, Rarity and… and I think they’ll be very happy when you return…”
”But there’s no rush. I’m with you for as long as you need.”
Rarity leaned into the hug, silently starting to sob again. "I dreamed that I encased them in stone for not complying with my wishes... It's not something that's easily forgiven..." Rarity said, taking a deep breath to try to slow her crying. "But... But I think you're right... they will..."
The Barrier seemed to be getting closer to the two sleeping ponies below, or the ground seemed to be rising to meet them. Either way, the distance between the Dream Versions and the 'real' versions of each of the ponies was closing. "Thank you... Fluttershy. I know... I know seeing what you did must have been hard for you... But I'm glad you pulled me out of this." Rarity said with a light smile as the two seemed to get pulled apart gently.
"I... I guess I'll see you when we awake?" Rarity said, her eyelids suddenly heavy, and slowly closing as the barrier seemed to intersect with the reality below, The two Rarity's merging into one as Dream.Fluttershy hovered just above her real body for a few moments before falling in as well.
Rarity's eyes flickered open and she slowly sat up weakly. She looked around, seeing she was in a castle, and her face quickly growing panicked for a few moments before the haze of sleep lifted and she remembered what had happened. She looked over to Fluttershy. Standing on wobbly legs, the mare stumbled as gracefully as she could over to the bed with the yellow Pegasus and squeezed the daylights out of her in as big a hug as she could muster. "Thank you, Fluttershy. I know I thanked you wherever we were just a few moments ago, but I needed this to come from my own mouth, and I needed to hug you with my own hooves. Thank you, Dahling, you are a wonderful friend."
Fluttershy had never asked for adventure. Never wanted to leave her cottage far behind to face danger and triumph over darkness. She didn't like to leave from the chaotic serenity of nature for longer than she had to. Yet as she fell toward the other body, merging with herself in order to awaken, she felt a sense of accomplishment that she only found when she was with her friends. The world was a scary place, but it made up for it with wondrous beauty and amazing friends.
Her wings unfolded, fanning out to receive the warm blood that allowed them to hold her aloft. There was a stiffness to them. Luckily she wasn't planning on flying away. Her wings folded back up and her attention trained onto Rarity. They were back. Both of them had returned.
She blushed deeply, hugging back. This moment between them a final, fantastic note on the nightmare they had shared. ”Welcome back, Rarity. You are very welcome,” she replied, not knowing if she truly deserved the title of 'wonderful friend.' She had been afraid, uncertain. However, she was in no mood to argue. She just wanted to be here, holding her friend, knowing that all the scary shadows the future might bring were far in front of them.
