Pi's face turns grim at the question, and his steps slow down as he forms his answer.
"Yes. They're soldiers from the two armies. I'm not sure why they were meeting, but the mare sure doesn't want anypony eavesdropping." He sighs deeply. "I just hope Quill is still safe." There's a silence that follows this, with Pi looking dejected as he walks. The walk to the castle is a far one, and space doesn't seem to be pulling the same tricks it did on the mountain, so the two ponies have to walk the whole way. Soon, the pegasus decides he's had enough of the quiet.
"You seem to know my sister. How did you two meet?"
Fox smiled, almost laughing at the question. "I've been in Quill's shop a few times but I guess we became friends because a pony had set up a game in the town square in Ponyville. We both decided to join in and found we shared certain iterests so maintained the friendship".
She sighed. "When Quill was in trouble I offered to help her so Princess Luna sent me here. I've been trying to find her for..". She paused as she realised she was unsure just how long she had been looking for Quill. "Quite a while now".
Fox glanced downhill and winced as she noticed the height they were at, heights were a weakness of hers. "I've seen a picture of you with Quill when she was a filly. You've grown up since then". She blushed for a second as inappropriate thoughts crossed her mind. "I mean you've both grown up some since then. What was Quill like back then".
The stallion seems confused by most of what Fox Fire says, but eventually decides not to question it. After all, there's a lot he doesn't know about Quill since she moved out of his apartment. He considers her question for a moment, slipping into childhood memories.
"She was happier as a foal. We spent a lot of time playing together, even though I'm several years older than her. I never saw her as an embarrassment as many brothers do." He smiles at the memories. "She wasn't very social, so it was mostly just me and her. Our parents were always pretty strict, too. We had to go to bed before nine every night, even on weekends, but she'd always sneak into my room and I'd read to her.
"Back before she could fly, I would put her on my back and fly as fast as I could. She loved that. She would giggle and squeal the whole time, especially when I went upside-down." He pauses. "I don't think she ever liked flying by herself quite the same, though."
Fox nodded and smiled as she listened to Pi. "I don't think I've ever seen Quill flying". She glanced at PI. "My family are much more sporty and physical than I am. I tended to be sitting under a tree reading while everyone else was running around like lunatics. I'm lucky I still kep in contact with my family but I haven't got much in common with them".
She smiled. "My father's one of the guard in Canterlot and I think my parents were expecting me to be trying for that". The smile widened into a grin. "Apparantly they were expecting me to be a colt since my four older siblings are all boys. My little sister Misty is more like they are than I've ever been".
Fox looked around as she walked. "Is it just me or did this look like less of a a ath when we started".
He wears a smile as she talks about her family, chuckling a bit. He seems amused by the descriptions of her siblings, and is probably comparing them to his own sister.
"Quill was never one to run around, either. She spent most of her foalhood with her nose in a book." A brief frown crosses his face. "Our parents had a lot of plans for her, you know. Big plans. Progress and change for all ponykind. She wanted to change ponies, but not the way they wanted." His frown becomes more solid now. "That's what started all the fights."
He looks around as Fox mentions the surroundings and realizes where they are. "We're almost there," He says. "Come on, we should hurry." He picks up his speed as they approach the castle and the guard.
The pony by the gate stands stoically and stiffly. His armor is pegasean, bearing remarkable resemblance to that of the mare Fox had seen before. His fur is a soft lavender color and his eyes are a strange, icy blue. Beside him is a lever, which presumably would open the heavy metal bars that cover the doorway.
Fox looked at the guard as she galloped up to him, frowning as she considered talking to him then decided not to. She tried to grab the lever controlling the bars with her telekinesis and slam it down as she approached the door then gallop as fast as she could into the castle.
She had never used her telekinesis in anger but while Quill was in danger her normal 'Can't we sort this out peacefully' attitude was quickly replaced by 'If anyone gets in my way, Celestia help them'.
Pi stands slightly stunned for a fraction of a second before he rushes at the stallion, pulls the lever back into place, and slides through the gate before the guard can stop him.
Inside the castle, there's a door directly in front of the two ponies and a staircase on either side. The one on the right most likely leads up to the tall brick tower that was visible from the outside, and the one on the left probably goes to the spire, but it's unclear where the door might lead. Any one of these paths may lead to Quill, and Pi falters at the thought. He shifts his weight from one side to the other and looks around nervously. He's afraid that if he makes the wrong choice, something bad may happen to his sister, but if they delay too long the guard will catch up and throw them out.
OOC: Sorry, I posted my last post in my other characters account then realised I'd done it after Quill posted.
BIC: Fox looked at Pi and tried to smile reassuringly as she tried to work out what she had been thinking doing what she had just done. She had been seeking adventure since she was a filly but some of the things she had been doing had been at least foolish. With three possble routes the idea of immediately splitting up was possibly a bad idea.
Taking another look around, Fox turned back to Pi. "Shall we try the door together before we split up or shall we try a set of stairs each?. I'm all for trying the door first, strength in numbers and all that".
"I think we should check the door first, then split up." He looks at her and nods before stepping forward and opening the door. Inside is a single, large room filled with weapons. Swords and spears lay in piles on the floor, as well as in wooden crates. Maces, flails, bows and arrows, and halberds. Hundreds of weapons, leaving barely enough floorspace to maneuver inside the room. There are no other doors, making it clear that they aren't going to find anypony in here.
Sighing in disappointment, Pi picks up a sword before leaving the room. With a nod of his head he indicates that he'll take the stairs to the brick tower, leaving the stairs to the spire for Fox Fire.
Fox nodded. "Good luck, my friend, yell if you find Quill". She started up the stairs, galloping as fast as she could while keeping an eye out for anything unexpected. For everything which was at stake, both Quill and herself could be lost if she failed in her appointed task, Fox was enjoying this more than she had expected to.
She slowed her pace as she drew her sword, unsure what to expect as she looked around. Keeping her voice low enought that Pi might not hear her, she called out "Quill, are you here?".
At the top of the spire lies a circular room, with a single window. The window lets in sunlight, but much of the room is still dim. In the shadows sits a pony wearing a cloak. The hood of the cloak covers everything but a snout and a pair of scarred, notched ears. Though they can't possibly see with the hood over their eyes, they speak to Fox anyway.
"Hello, child. Have you come for your prophecy?" The voice is rickety and rough, and the chuckle that follows the words sounds like a creaky door. The pony is quite obviously elderly, and it seems as though they were expecting the young unicorn to arrive.
Fox stepped into the chamber looking around. Her mane at the back of her neck was standing on end and her nerves were fair jangling. The thought that she should go and check on Pi if Quill was not in the room was warring with the thought that she really wanted to hear the prophecy the pony was speaking of.
Taking a breath to steady her nerves, Fox walked over to the pony and bowed. "Yes, I've come for my prophecy".
A smirk spreads lazily across the old pony's muzzle. "As a matter of fact," says the Prophet, "there is." She waves the young pony over and speaks in her ear for a moment before addressing Fox Fire again.
"Take my assistant with you on your quest." The assistant, looking a little flustered, pulls down her hood to reveal a messy mane and bright eyes. She ducks her head in respect.
"G-greetings, noble hero. My name is Feather Quill." Unfortunately, the moment those words are out of her mouth, the scene fades to that breathless grey that signifies a transition from one dream to another. However, Quill is still standing there as the grey fades away to reveal...nothing. Everything is black, pitch black. Not just darkness, but inky blackness.
Quill wears fear on her face. Terror, in fact. She fidgets nervously, unable to keep still. Suddenly, a sound like a growl crossed with a screech echoes through the nothingness and sends the pegasus bolting away.
