The Adorable and the Adoration {Dinky/Lazuli}

Dinky bounced a little. The fair! That was fun, right? Like a fun fair? Right? Fun? Dinky may or may not have been nervous. Why? Well... She got paired with Lazuli. Lazuli was the filly who got stuck in her dream and Dinky went in and failed to save her. Yeah. Lazuli. Dinky hoped they could be friends. And she hoped Lazuli would forgive her for failing. And hoped they'd have a lot of fun at the fun fair. Dinky needed to calm down. She looked around the town center that had been decorated for the holiday. Ponyville looked pretty... Very... pink and stuff. Um... Maybe she could try a spell while she waited for Lazuli? Her mind was a bit of a jumble so it probably wasn't a good idea to try it... Oh, what harm could one spell do? Dinky decided she'd try some fireworks. Shaped fireworks! It was Hearts and Hooves! She could do heart fireworks. Probably. Maybe. She hadn't ever tried before... Well, if she failed, it'd just look fireworks anyways, right? Dinky closed her eyes and lit her horn up. She bit her lip in concentration. The end sparked with her golden aura until finally welling up with a surge of reds and pinks. It burst off the end and shot into the sky. A few light explosions of multi colored hearts filled the air. Dinky opened her eyes and smiled at them. They were small, but she did it! Heheh, and on her first try, too!

Today was going to be wonderful! When Lazuli had signed up for this Hearts and Hooves Fun-Fair for Foals, She had noticed there was a gender preference. But why would she care about that? So she had carefully scribbled out "Male" "Female" and "No Preference" and had written in "Unicorn". And it had worked! Lazuli was going to get to play all day with a unicorn! She was surprised that she'd drawn a vaguely familiar name though. She didn't remember Dinky too well, but she'd been told that when she'd been trapped in her dreams, Dinky had also gotten trapped with her. That worried her. What if Dinky didn't want to play with her because of that? What if she didn't even show up? But no, there she was, doing (Could there be anything more wonderful to be doing?) magic! Lazuli Rose stopped in her tracks and watched the tiny explosions of hearts. Her little crystal-pony person shining just as brilliantly as the pyrotechnics, although she didn't know it. "Oooooh, thats so pretty!" she gasped, from behind Dinky. "Can you do other shapes too?"

Eep! Dinky jumped in surprise and turned to see the very filly she had been waiting for. Lazuli! She thought her magic was pretty? Dinky giggled brushing her hoof across the ground. "That was my first time trying shapes. I might be able to do more. I haven't tried." Dinky decided that even though she could sit there and talk about her magic all day, it would be better to go ahead and get along with the event and their pairing. "It's nice to see you again, Lazuli! Y'know... outside of a scary dream. And when we aren't crying." She gave a little smile, but she almost depressed herself with that. "Are you excited for the fair?" There! Back to the happy!

Lazuli smiled shyly at Dinky as the unicorn filly made her modest disclaimer. No doubt Dinky was already super-skilled at magic. It made Lazuli a little bit worried, even as she admired it. She wanted to be skilled at magic too. Was it something you had to start as a foal? Was she running out of time? What was she even doing, playing, when she didn't even have a plan to work toward becoming a unicorn? No, Lazuli defended herself,This isn't just play, this is important research and inspiration-gathering! What Dinky said next, however, made her flinch. "I'm sorry about that..." Lazuli said, her gaze dropping to the dirt instantly and her expression crumbling. "I didn't mean to get you trapped in my dream. I'd understand if... If you don't want to play with me today..." Lazuli trailed off, trying not to look as crushed as she was beginning to feel. "I mean... I was so happy that I got your name, but of course... you wouldn't... feel the same way..."

Oh no, oh no! Not back to the happy! Sad! Sad sad sad! Dinky's eyes widened and a frown joined them. "No! I am happy I got your name! Really!" Sure, it made her nervous and may or may not have given her horrible guilt, but this would still be fun! "My momma told me that you can make friends everywhere! And I want you to be my friend and I want to go to the fair with you! Please don't be sad Lazuli. Please. I wanna have fun with you." Dinky didn't want Lazuli to be sad because of her. Dinky already messed up once! She didn't want it to happen again. Dinky was going to be the best friend Lazuli ever had!

Lazuli looked up, reassured and brightening...Literally! Dinky's enthusiasm sounded sincere and her earnest wishes accorded so exactly with the Crystal Filly's own that she even sparkled a bit. "Oh, Me too!" she exclaimed, bouncing just a tiny bit. "Me too! I want to be friends and have fun and I want to play with you at the fair all day! Should we get started? Can we get started?" Lazuli produced a small roll of tickets that each foal had been given, tickets that were good for all the food, rides and games. What should we do first? Lazuli asked. "I don't know what's good, so maybe you should choose for us? I've never been to a fair before. Well, except the one time, the Crystal Fair. That was nice too, but it wasn't much like this. What do you want to do first?" she insisted.

Oh! Yay! Lazuli was happy! That meant they could go to the fair and have fun! "Of course we can get started!" Dinky grinned, trotting in place. Now that the icky bad feelings had moved on, Dinky felt much better about their day. She revealed her own roll of tickets to match Laz's. "We should ride some rides first! We can eat afterwards, so we don't get sick. Then, we can play some games! And maybe another ride afterwards!" As long as fun was the focus of the day, they couldn't go wrong!

Dinky seemed to know just what to do, and Lazuli was ready to trust her! "Okay! Rides it is!" the crystal filly replied, turning and taking off at a gallop across the fairground to the area where rides were set up. Someone had clearly gone to a lot of trouble to set this fair up. Though the rides were for kids, some were foal sized version of adult rides! Lazuli looked from one to another eagerly. There were fairground staples like the Ferris Wheel and Carousel, of course, but there were also a couple roller coasters, bumper carts, tilt-a-whirl, zipper, sizzler, and more! Lazuli had never been on a single ride before! they all looked wonderful, so she picked out the biggest (and scariest) roller coaster they had! "How about that one, first?"
