Luna looked at Trixie with some amusement, wondering if she would ever learn. It was the alicorn wings she desired, or at least the pegasus ones. The princess could give her the spell, but Trixie wouldn't be able to master it for some time. She could give the unicorn the wings themselves, even if only temporarily, but Trixie likely wouldn't be able to fly with them, at least... not without practice. Unlike those wings of Morning Dew her student so scorned, the other wings didn't work on their own. It was something about butterfly wing construction...
Ah well. Here was Trixie looking at her with shining eyes. Her friend, who had even, completely of her own accord, brought her the kind of repast the alicorn longed for most. And her companionship, besides. Who had patiently sat through her lectures and, if she didn't exactly pay close attention, at least could not be called inattentive. It was not a night for lessons, nor any further wet-blanketing. Luna felt a kindly, magnanimous feeling welling up and she smiled as one who delights to grant a favor.
"Very well, Trixie." Luna said cheerfully, "Do you know what kind of wings you would like to try? Such as these, perhaps?" Luna unfurled a dark wing with its arching lead feather. "Or perhaps you would have such as our dear sister possesses, sometimes referred to as an angel-wing. Or one of the several styles of pegasus wings? Speed wings, agility wings, endurance wings- I can even do a griffon wing. Bat wings and Morning Dew wings of course, though I know that you were aiming towards the feathers. The spell lasts a full three days. We can begin whenever you are ready."
Inwardly, Luna was a little amazed at herself. Though she had perfect confidence in her ability to cast the spells flawlessly, it was not like her to be so casual about granting it upon a pony without taking many long hours for both of them to reflect first. It was a thing that could sew discontent into the hearts of ground-bound ponies. Then, too, was the lengthy period of time it took a pony to manage even the rudiments of flight. And if word got around that this was done lightly, she would never be done casting this spell.
But tonight... tonight she would make an exception. Tonight was a special night.
