||| DERPY HOOVES |||
#Name; Derpy Hooves
#Age Group ; Adult
#Gender ; Mare
#Species; Pegasus
#Cutie Mark ; Derpy’s cutie mark is a cluster of several clear bubbles.
#Occupation ; Mail-mare
#Powers and Abilities ; Being a Pegasus, Derpy Hooves has the natural ability to fly, walk upon clouds, and manipulate said clouds to create small bursts of weather (Lightning, rain, etc.). Some ponies would also say that Derpy has an uncanny ability in clumsiness and making things, well, “derped”.
#Physique ; While she isn’t too heavy, Derpy Hooves could be considered a bit pudgy. This is probably because of her large amounts of muffin consumption…
#Mane and fur color and style ; Derpy’s mane and tail are both a light yellow color and are rather well-kept. Her mane and forelock are both smooth until the very tip. The tips are both choppy with uneven ends. Her tail is of a similar style, except it sweeps ever so slightly upward at the end. As for her fur, Derpy’s is a light gray color.
#Eye color ; Light yellow
#Other appearance details (optional) ; The most notable thing about Derpy Hooves’ appearance are her unmistakable crossed eyes. Whichever way one is looking, the other is looking in the opposite direction. It generally gives her a goofy appearance, no matter what her facial expression may be.
Like all pegasi, Derpy has a pair of feathery wings at her withers. The feathers are gray, matching the color of her fur. There is nothing too different about them.
#Personality ;
Derpy Hooves is a very unique, memorable pony. Most ponies immediately misjudge her or write her off as a silly pony, but they sadly miss out on the lovable depth of Derpy. It is true that she can come across as a bit goofy at first, and it isn’t only because of her crossed eyes. She does in fact have a very innocent, almost childlike personality. She’s often pleased by simple little things, such as a small game or some bubbles floating by. On the other side, she’s also easily distracted by little things, causing her attention to wander about just as much as her eyes sometimes do. It’s often hard to keep her on one subject for these reasons and she’ll easily jump from one thing directly to another. However, despite all of this, there are some wonderful qualities of a childlike demeanor. This demeanor grants a certain innocence to everything she does. While she can be sometimes be tiring or hard to work with, Derpy always genuinely means well. She really wants to please people and puts her heart into everything she does. Even when things go array, she’ll stay upbeat and still try to give it all her enthusiasm. It’s very difficult for her to become discouraged with this sort of innocent optimism.
Another part of her light hearted charm is how friendly and kind she can be. Derpy Hooves doesn’t have a mean or judgmental bone in her body. Even if someone is giving her strife over her appearance or nature, she’ll just let their harsh words fly right over her head. It’s hard to tell if she just doesn’t understand when someone’s being rude towards her, or if she’s just extremely upbeat. Either way, she’ll still continue to treat anypony with open friendliness and keep a smile on her face. It’s practically impossible to get on her bad side. In fact, it’s doubtful that she even has a bad side. She has a gift in keeping an open mind and being as nice to everypony as possible.
It’s probably a good thing that Derpy has all of these good intentions, because she needs them to counter-act her less desirable traits. Even if she does try really, really hard, her task will often fall victim to this pony’s clumsiness. Derpy Hooves is extremely accident-prone. Perhaps it’s because her crossed eyes hinder her vision, she doesn’t focus completely on what she’s doing, or simply because she doesn’t always think things through all the way. In some situations, it even seems as if Derpy doesn’t understand what the consequences for her actions might be. Whatever the cause of it though, expect things to go wrong when Derpy’s around. If it’s fixed, she’ll break it. If it’s already broken, she’ll break it even more. All of it is done on accident, of course. As it was said before; she does really mean well and try hard. It just doesn’t go according to plan more often than not, that’s all. When things do go wrong thanks to her clumsiness, do expect her to apologize. However, no matter how clumsy she can get, she never really gets discouraged. In fact, she’ll still remain cheery and upbeat, despite her failings. She might even offer to help make up for her mistake (Which, of course, might only lead to more problems…).
Additionally, it’s safe to say that Derpy Hooves isn’t a brilliant pony. In fact, she could be considered downright ditzy. She has a very simple, childish way of thinking. Anything too complex or subtle would fly over her head, and probably would earn a silly response from her. Some sarcasm might even be lost upon her as well. She isn’t stupid, don’t get me wrong. It’s just that she has a habit of “not getting” things. Even most sarcasm is lost upon her. Just keep things simple with Derpy and everything will go just fine. However, she does have quite a good memory. She’s able to remember names and faces very easily. Also, her sense of direction is impressive. These small traits are probably what enable her to be such an effective mail-mare.
Even with her clumsiness and ditzy behavior, Derpy takes pride in her work. Her natural tendency to put all of her enthusiasm into one thing makes her very dedicated to her job, even if it is just delivering the daily mail. She takes good care of her mail route and gives it all of her effort. Sure, she’ll drop the occasional box or loose the occasional letter for a day or two, but everyone makes mistakes sometimes, right? What’s really important is that she gets the job done, and that she loves her work.
Another thing that Derpy excels at is motherhood. Yes, Derpy is a proud mother of a little filly, and she pours her heart and soul into raising her. She is a very compassionate mother, supporting and loving little Dinky Hooves every step of the way. She loves her daughter with all her heart and would do just about anything for her. Like most foals, Dinky can occasionally be embarrassed by her mother’s behavior. However, their feelings for one another are very strong, and will last through anything. Derpy Hooves is very proud of her daughter. She loves her more than anything in the world.
Also, Derpy Hooves has a notorious love for muffins. She eats them practically every day for breakfast. Muffins for her are a gateway to absolute delight, and she enjoys them every chance she gets. Want to be instant friends with Derpy? Give her a muffin. This passion is so obvious that practically everyone she knows is well aware of it. No one really knows where this love started, but it certainly is strong.
#History ;
Derpy Hooves’ parents, a pair of pegasi who lived happily in Cloudsdale, were a loving, delightful couple. They shared a lovely home and had a seemingly perfect marriage. However, there was one thing that they were missing; a foal to share their lives with. For the longest time, her parents tried again and again to conceive, but they had great difficulty. Time passed as they kept trying with no results, but their determination could not be wavered. Finally, their persistence paid off, and they were eventually blessed with their first and only filly. This filly was born into the world in the typical way, with nothing terribly unique about her birth, save for one little detail; their daughter was born with a pair of crossed eyes. Rather than worry about their filly’s future or even be disappointed that their child was not “perfect”, her parents were delighted to simply be blessed with a child, a unique child, none the less. They decided to name her “Derpy Hooves”.
Derpy was raised in Cloudsdale and had a simple childhood. Her parents were both loving through and through, taking great care of their daughter. Some of Derpy’s favorite childhood memories are from the days where she and her mother would spend time together baking a shared favorite food; muffins (Well, her mother would bake the muffins. She would just make a mess.). This is probably the source of her love for muffins that still lives on into her adulthood. Both mother and father were always supportive, no matter what Derpy did. This was especially important to her during her schooling years as a foal. More often than not, she was teased at school for her crossed eyes. Rather than have this damage her self-image, her parents would always make sure to remind her that being different was never a bad thing and to be proud of being unique. Over time, Derpy Hooves found herself being less affected by the teasing of others her age. Because of such early support, she would eventually develop a self-confidence and a carefree attitude that would not be broken. In fact, it was during the growth of her easy going nature that Derpy Hooves was able to receive her cutie mark. One school day, Derpy was at the butt end of some unusually harsh teasing. Although she can’t remember what was said exactly, the young filly was so hurt that she actually flew away from the school grounds to be alone. For a while, she just flew around on her own, trying to forget what was said to her. However, the skies were lonely and empty, which made her feel even sadder and lonelier. Finally, when she was just about finished with her moping and ready to fly home, something starting drifting towards her. A group of little bubbles came out of seemingly nowhere and began to surround her, flying with her. Now, throughout her entire life, little things have been able to make Derpy very happy. The idea of flying with all those free little bubbles filled her with a joy that began to chase the pain away. As she began to play with the bubbles, she started to forget what drove her to be flying alone in the first place. She remembered suddenly to appreciate the small things in life and forget about the bad. She discovered her talent then; finding carefree bliss from the smallest of things, even in the face of grief. At the same moment as her pain went away, her cutie mark, a cluster of bubbles, appeared. All these little moments in her foalhood, both big and small, led the Pegasus to grow into the pony she is today.
Eventually, Derpy Hooves reached adulthood. For some time after leaving school, she insisted on still living at home. You see, she was very attached to her parents and home life that she didn’t want to leave. Knowing what was best for her though, her parents eventually had to force her out of the house to make a life for herself. It was from that little push that Derpy was forced to join the postal service in order to find a career. It didn’t take very long for her to realize that this new job was the perfect place for her. She just loved being able to fly from home to home, helping ponies stay in touch, and even meeting some new friends in the process. And she was pretty good at it too! A passion grew for her place in the postal service in no time, and Derpy Hooves settled happily into adult life. She began servicing Cloudsdale and Ponyville, keeping both towns in touch with one another. It would be in Ponyville however that she would begin the next chapter in her life.
After a few months delivering to Ponyville, Derpy Hooves decided that it was her favorite town to be in. A major reason for this decision was from a certain unicorn stallion she meant while on the job, who just so happened to live in said location. She met him in an unconventional way. She had snagged her mail-bag on a branch, resulting in every letter she was carrying to fall into one big heap on his front lawn. Rather than get upset, the stallion found humor in the entire fiasco and spend the rest of the day helping her clean her mess. Needless to say, several hours of picking up mail gave the two a good chance to get to know each other. They became quick friends and vowed to stay in touch. True to their word, Derpy found herself frequently stopping at his house much longer than necessary on her route, which grew into the pair meeting up outside of her work. Their fondness for each other grew and grew, until finally they decided to become a couple. Delighted to have found her special-somepony, Derpy Hooves was very eager to live a life with the unicorn, and didn’t hesitate the moment he asked her to live with him in Ponyville.
For about two years, Derpy lived with this stallion in Ponyville, making a life for herself there. Everything seemed perfect. She was in love, making new friends, and even got to keep her job. It seemed as if things could only get better from there. Derpy thought that things would get even better from there, especially on the day that she discovered that she was going to be a mother. However, this was sadly the start of things going in the opposite direction. Her special-somepony wasn’t nearly as excited about the news as she was. In fact, he was downright scared. It was one thing to be living with someone he cared for deeply, but the news of a foal made him realize what a big deal commitment was. In his perspective, they were both still young, and had a lot of living to do before settling down. As much as Derpy disagreed and thought they could be happy as a family, her stallion’s fears got the best of him. Shortly before their daughter was born, he broke his connections with Derpy Hooves and disappeared to do whatever he wanted, not tied down by a family.
Derpy was heartbroken. She had this perfect idea of their lives together, and then he ran out on her. For a while, she could not shake off her sadness and considered going back to Cloudsdale to shake off the memory of her time with him. However, before she did anything dramatic like that, Derpy gave birth to their… her daughter, Dinky Hooves. From the moment she first met her daughter, Derpy knew that everything was going to be just fine. Her previous nature of living in a state of bliss returned to her, now that she was sharing her life with her precious filly. She decided to stay in Ponyville, not only for her unicorn daughter, but for the life she had for herself in that town. Everything was going to be okay. No. Everything was going to be great!
It’s been a while since Dinky was brought into her life, and so far, Derpy Hooves’ optimism for the future has proven true. She’s still the same pony she always was. Things have never been better.The Roleplayer's Corner

Special deliveries were always Derpy’s favorite part of her job. Something inside of her felt like she was doing a big favor for somepony, bringing them something they’ve been eagerly waiting for all this time. She loved being there when that pony opened the door and seeing the look of anticipation on their face as she handed over their package. In fact, a jolt of delight ran through her body at the very thought of it. It was very possible that she got herself more excited over the package than the pony receiving it does, but the mail-mare didn’t tend to think about that possibility too deeply. All she knew was that she was making somepony happy, and that was good enough for her.
Her wings flapped with just a little more purpose as she lowered her altitude. She was finally in the heart of Ponyville, where her friends and acquaintances hustled and bustled in the streets. Now would be the time for her to start looking at the numbers on the buildings, searching for the right address, but she couldn’t help but let her eyes wander about. Sure, she lived in Ponyville and therefore saw the town on a frequent basis, but she couldn’t help but wonder who and what she would see today. Maybe she would spot Carrot Top talking to a vendor, or somepony else that she knew. Well, then she would feel compelled to talk to them, and they’d get into a conversation, and she’d forget about the time, and then the mail- Oh! Right! The mail!
Derpy Hooves giggled a bit at herself as she suddenly remembered that she had a job to do. Just another scattered brain moment from her. That’s all it was. By now, Derpy knew well how to recover from getting herself distracted. The string of the package she was carrying in her mouth began to slip, so she quickly adjusted her grip before refocusing. Right. Addresses. Where was this package going again? Ah, now she remembered. She kept her focused pace through the air as she began to read the numbers on the buildings (For it seemed that she just so happened to be on the right street). Remembering her purpose made Derpy feel that excitement again, and it only grew as the numbers she was reading kept going up.
Finally, she was getting close. Her wings slowed her pace and she began to drift through the streets, ready to stop in front of the door. Finally, there it was, right in front of her. It stood alone at the very end of the street. Rather than be aligned with the row of buildings at both of her sides, it stood tall on its own where the road ended, turning suddenly off into another strip of street. It was as if it was waiting for her. Knowing exactly where she was headed now, Derpy Hooves flew forward as quickly as she could. She was watching where she was going… For a little while. Then, she thought she heard a familiar voice, which immediately stole her attention. Her head turned, but her wings kept right on going. Of course, she didn’t notice that second part. Instead, she just smiled a big smile at whoever she heard and was ready to let out a happy greeting, before she slammed herself right into the door of the house she was delivering to. Whoops.
Her wings immediately stopped when her head made impact on the solid, wood door. While her head was busy spinning, her body slid down and landed on the front step below with a thud. After just a second of seeing stars, Derpy Hooves finally lifted her head and gave it a bit of a shake. It was a doozy of a hit, but it wasn’t her worst. She finally pulled herself back together and was seeing straight again (Well, as straight as one could with her eyes), when a distinctive click reached her ears. The door opened and now Derpy was being given a worried stare from the mare that lived there. She must’ve heard the impact and came to the door. Well, it spared Derpy the effort of knocking at least. The Pegasus blinked for a moment, but then remembered her business. A big, warm smile came onto her face as she looked around for where the package had fallen. Luckily, it was close, and she picked it up without even having to pull herself back up to her feet. Still sprawled out on the front step and with a big smile on her face, Derpy held out the pony’s package in her mouth and chirped out an extremely enthusiastic, but slightly muffled “Special delivery!!”
