The day was fair, sunny with a balanced abundance of clouds. It was a long walk to the Everfree from home, but to Strings it's worth the trek. He checks if he has everything within his saddlebag, walking by a few houses on the outskirts of Ponyville, a cloud providing shade, as he walks under it a ways. "Hmm... Pen, journal, bug spray, aaaand a granola bar. Should be enough for a few hours..." He said to himself.
He continues a while, until he finally spots the beginning of the forestry. He smiles, eager to get on with his little goal he'd set the day before. He stops just outside, looking into the forest as far as he could see from the spot. It was ominous looking, but that wouldn't keep him away. He takes it all in, going over a few thoughts on what he should look for.
Looking to the left, seeing the border of trees stretch far, as it does to the right. He ponders. "... Plants, animals, atmosphere, and environment... Should be a few things to consider when looking for inspiration. Then there's how I feel about those things... Yeah." He looks around behind him, eyes following the trail. He sees a rabbit just kind of sitting there, not moving any closer to the forest or him. He smiles as he takes the first few steps past the trees. Walking casually, enjoying the sounds and shade.

Azure sits on the roof of his house while Swift works, drinking some coffee and enjoying the nice weather today. It wasn't often he got to take a day off but when he did it was strictly meant for relaxing and taking care of himself. However, as his eyes travel over to one stallion trotting over to the Everfree Forest, he figured that his day of relaxation was going to be put on pause or over completely.
This stallion does realize where it is he's traveling right? As a matter of fact....have I even seen him in tow before? Is he new? Azure sighs to himself as he flies off his roof, resting his coffee inside the house. He hoped he wouldn't have to travel back in the forest that he went into blindly awhile back, but if the stallion was going to go in with reckless abandonment he should at least not be alone.
Putting on his guard gear that he swears up and down he just took off, still smelling of last night's crisp dewy air, he heads out the house after the crazy stallion by flight. At least this wasn't happening on his shift. He was still alone patrolling the town and if something like this happened, the stallion would have to be on his own. Azure approaches him, hovering for a few seconds before landing. Errr....excuse me sir. You do realize where it is you're going right? Alone at that I might add. Azure looks over the stallion with a critical eye. That saddlebag looks pretty light.
He turns to the stranger, noticing the eyes first. "Oh, Hello." He smiles, looking up and down at him. 'Great, a guard... I hope I'm not trespassing...' Holding his breath for a moment, he exhales and ponders on what to say. "Lovely day, hm?" He looks nervous.
Azure sighs to himself as he hears the nervous stallion try at small talk. It wasn't like it was illegal to go into those woods. From the way the stallion acted after seeing him, it was almost like all he saw was the blackish grey armor and didn't hear the concerned voice being projected out towards him. There's more to us than metal you know. On top of that, if you're being intimidated by somepony smaller than you this easily, there's no way in Tartarus you're going in there alone.
Yes it's a lovely day outside. Azure exhales quietly, ignoring the fact his question seemed to go in one ear and out the other of the stallion. Daywalkers amuse me the more I work the nights. Now, I'm not sure if you're new here or not. These woods you're about to traverse in is known as the Everfree Forest. The most dangerous woods of the lands. The fact you're thinking of going in there alone and....poorly equipped would lead me to believe you're either blatantly ignorant of the dangers, entirely new here, or your magic is a lot more handy than I think it is.
Why do I get the feeling he's going to travel in there regardless thus pulling me in there with him? Swift might get upset about it. Azure looks about him, watching as blades of grass flow in the direction the wind travels, softly rubbing against his armor. It only takes him a moment to realize he had forgotten his helmet, reason for having made eye contact with the stallion. Smooth featherbrain.
He nods. "Yes, I am fully aware of what's in there, but my intentions are of no harm to anything, I promise." Smiles to the guard, rubbing the back of his neck with a hoof. If I need a permit to enter or anything, I swear I am unsure if this was tresspassing or not." He gulps. '... Just need to get him off my case...' He acts a bit shaky and clumsy. "Say, you wouldn't happen to have seen a cat around here, would you? Purple, pink stripes, green eyes?" He looks into the guard's eyes, sincere... or at least acting like it. 'This should throw him off...'
Was this stallion for real? Did he really take Azure to be a fool? Mentally he was beating himself against the flank for forgetting his helmet. The amount of teeth gritting and "Are you serious?" looks he wanted to display were growing by the ever long passing seconds. Instead he stayed composed with himself on the outside, sternly looking at this....jokester. There is no way in the world I''m letting him in there alone.
Trespassing? No there's no trespassing here but you're about to venture into a forest that would laugh at your intentions of not wanting to harm anything and instead harm you. Now here was the part he wasn't looking forward to talking about. He had heard of this cat before.....he just didn't think a tale meant for foal's to read would be used by someone trying to fool him.
Yes I believe I have. If you're looking for it it's right over there in that large tree in town. Knock on the door, walk inside and ask for the book "Alice in Wonderland". I'm sure you'll find it there sir. He couldn't pass up the chance to make this stallion feel ridiculous for even trying that card. They were grown stallions, not foals. Now, again, I'm offering my help to you because going alone into these woods would be poorly recommended even for trained guards. Would you like my help yes or no?
He sighed. "As much as I would like to go in alone, sure." He faces towards the forest for a moment, rolling his eyes, then turns back to the guard. "One thing though... I need you to be quiet unless it's an emergency. Can you please do that?" He looks him in the eye. A small breeze picks up and blows a bit of his mane from his eyes. 'If he's going to come along, I can't have some guard bumbling about how dangerous it is. He doesn't seem too bad, but still... I need quiet.' Awaits an answer from him.

As if to make Azure look like a jerk for his snarky remark, a purple cat with pink stripes mewled at the duo and walked past. It paused next to Azure, looking at him with its almost piercing green eyes before disappearing past the two into the forest. It paused as it got a little distance into the woods, looking back toward them, its eyes almost glowing in the limited light.
It waited for the two for a few more moments, letting out a questioning meow before it started walking once again, slow enough they could follow, keeping right on a nice flat path.
Just my luck. There's no way in Tartarus that his stallion planned for this to happen. Azure glares at the cat for a few moments as he takes time to process what just happened. I can do quiet as long as you run if I tell you to. I don't want you around if there's danger about. Please have the sense to run back down the path we travel.
The cat seemed to be trying to grab their attention in the meantime. As Azure turns back to the forest he noticed the cat looking their way. You want us to follow you? No that's ridiculous Azure, stop it. What ever happened to enjoying his day off? And being quiet? Just.....easy, you're here to help. Just relax. I really wish I had put on my socks today.
Azure looks back to the cat curiously once it meows and begins walking down the narrow flat path. Curiosity getting the better of Azure, he begins heading down the path behind the cat as he starts to feel silly. The very fairytale the unicorn had tried to fool him with, Azure was traveling in the books footsteps. Or writing, however you wanted to look at it. Are you coming? He looks over his shoulder to the unicorn before continuing down the path, his armor barely making a sound as he stays light on his hooves.
Grinning at the sight of the cat he thinks of how funny this is. What are the odds??? He chuckles to himself quietly as his eyes follow the cat. "Run if you say? Why of course, isn't it common sense to run in danger?" He smiles a bit, looking back at the guard, eyes following him now as he takes lead behind the cat. "Yes, but I think you should stay behind me. I'm the one who know's what I'm looking for, after all~" He catches up to his side.

The cat Mew'd happily as the two decided to follow, keeping them on a straight, narrow path for quite some time. Eventually, the path curved, and the cat disappeared from sight. When the two would round the corner, they'd see a large open area, leading to a bridge over a chasm, and a large, broken palace standing tall. If either of them know their history, they'd know this is the palace of the two sisters, the old seat of royalty in Equestria, far before Canterlot.
I thought it was to run away from danger, not in it. This stallion was beginning to irk Azure slightly. However he takes a deep breath and decides to keep quiet as he follows the cat as well as the stallion. Why did he get the feeling that instead of following the stallion he was going to end up following the cat. It seemed to be leading the both of them as it was anyways.
Azure's feeling begins to feel off as the cat disappears. Rounding the corner, a large flat land leads the way to a bridge over a considerably large chasm, immediately grabbing Azure's curiosity. He was crossing this bridge. He didn't care if he had to carry the stallion over the bridge just to make sure the stallion didn't go off on his own to get hurt. There was a broken palace on the other side, something he was willing to bet not many other ponies got to see if any.
Alright look I'll traverse through Tartarus with you if that's what it takes to get you to cross this bridge and explore with me. I don't want you going off on your own and get hurt or worse and have nopony there to help you. You can stay behind me if you want I don't care. Azure looks back towards the palace curiously, stopping just in front of the bridge. It looked rickety at best, but it was nothing he couldn't handle. He takes a step forward, beginning to cross over to the alluring territory.
Raising a brow at Azure, he rolls his eyes. "I was going to go either way. This is exactly what I'm trying to look for." He smiled, being careful of his steps and shifting weight. Following Azure, from behind, he can feel a breeze blow through his mane as they cross the chasm. He looks down, smiling.
"This is what I needed~" The bridge creaked and moaned a bit, he loved this feeling, it was perfect for inspiration. Picturing many things in his head that could be used to go along with this song he was looking for. He lost sight of the cat, but he didn't care, he was willing to delve into the ruins.

The cat let out one last meow before disappearing into the castle, disappearing from sight entirely. A Weak groan could be heard from inside the main foyer, echoing into the valley as a being walked on shaky legs into sight. The cracked shell of a changeling coming into sight for a little bit of fresh air.
The tall changeling took a few deep breaths before glancing over at the approaching duo, a look of fear crossing her face at the sight of the guard before she disappeared back into the Foyer, backing her way into a corner to try to defend herself. A light of magic flickering on the end of her horn, as if unable to manage a spell.
Sure you were, and I was just thinking to myself today "Hey, let's go into the most dangerous woods with a completely ignorant of danger stallion." Azure takes a glance at the cat as it disappears into the ruins, sighing to himself. There was no good going to come if he continued to belligerently make this stallion seem more and more ridiculous in his mind, or in reality. The point was now he was in the middle of a valley with a stallion that might as well be blissful to danger.
The valley reeked of danger.
Sure Azure would love to just up and out this stallion. He knew nothing about him, had a marefriend back home who would probably much rather prefer he'd be resting on his day off, and had already been made a fool with the purple striped cat. That darned cat, it had to have happened just out of spite. It was just his luck too.
All of a sudden, a groan echoes off the walls of the valley about him. Azure looks up from the rickety bridge for a moment to see a fleeing figure race back into the eerie ruins. The urge to chase after became immense within Azure, but he had to stay calm and slow. If he flared his wings out to take flight and tried to take off, it could break the bridge and cause it to collapse on ignorant behind him. If he stepped off with too much force, he could force his leg straight through the old worn down wood and possibly cause worse damage.
Just my luck, I want to go search something and everything around me is daring me to do just that. Azure takes a calming exhale, crossing the bridge on rickety wooden plank at a time. He was about three fourths of the way across the bridge now, hoping to whoever above the bridge wouldn't just decide "Hey guys, sorry but I've got better things to do today like break. Ciao." .....Azure knocks on a plank just in case he jinxed himself at the mere thought, keeping his focus on crossing the bridge to just simply that. Cross. The. Bridge.
